Views from around the Sports Nation on KU getting Orange Bowl over MU.

Mike and Mike in the morning - "Both are saying that uk's selection over Mizzou going to the Orange Bowl is purely a joke.

Associated Press - "Never mind that both of Missouri's losses were to Oklahoma, that the Tigers were two slots ahead of Kansas in the final BCS standings and beat the Jayhawks head-to-head on Nov. 24 to doom Kansas' national-title hopes."

Lee Corso - "Did Missouri beat Kansas? Did they beat Illinois? Where are they going?...Something's wrong with the system."

Kirk Herbstreit - "The Orange Bowl committee should be asked a question. Why Kansas over Missouri? They beat Kansas, were 11-1 in their last game and lost to what many say is the best team in the country."

Ivan Maisel - "The Orange Bowl chose Kansas and its 11-1 record over 11-2 Missouri despite the Tigers' defeat of the Jayhawks a week ago. Kansas, like Ohio State, benefited by not playing on Saturday, when Missouri lost to Oklahoma, 38-17."

Rivals.com poll - "The Tigers were left out of the BCS despite beating Kansas head-to-head for the Big 12 North title. Kansas, meanwhile, is going to the Orange Bowl." They're currently leading by a huge margin. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/copoll.asp?poll=69

Blair Kerkhoff - "In other words, Missouri would have profited from declining a spot in the Big 12 title game. Kansas, like Ohio State, gained by not extending its season, and that’s a serious flaw in the process. Risks should be rewarded, not penalized."

I don't blame KU, it is not there fault. Funny I heard that wahmbulance sound coming from the KU crown in Arrowhead.

They had to pass Arrowhead to get to Columbia.

It's a simple issue to understand...

Lew Perkins > Mike Alden

And that's all there is to it.

KK on 810 is reporting that KU guarenteed to sell so many tickets and he quoted a rule from the BCS that made it illegal. He interviewed the Orange Bowl guy but he denied it. I didnt get to hear the whole thing. Did anyone else hear it?

Can people cry a little louder?

They act like it was the fault of the players and fans, that KU is there and not MU...

Whiney ass cry babies.. Hell as a KU fan I was expecting the Cotton or Holiday bowl... The BCS Orange bowl is just icing on the cake.

Stupidity never ceases to amaze me!

KU needs to win this game to prove everyone wrong, lets see if the mangino's are up to the task, if not there will be alot of uproar, and of course the tigers must beat arkansas and the mcfaddens

Getting there is one thing, winning that game would be icing for KU after losing to Mizzou and being told by everyone they don't deserve it.

I thought the bowls could pick anybody they wanted who wasn't already picked. They aren't required to pick who the public wants.

Yes. when your other option is Jim Rome and his clowns..err I mean Clones.

I'm an MU fan and think they got ripped but for me If your not in the NC game the At Large bowls or the cotton are about the same. If KK is right this could get ugly though.

Nobody has to say it. It is all right there. You haven't beat a top 40 team.

11-1, that is all. They don't want two loss teams in their games. That's for bowls like the Cotton.

MU got screwed. Go do something about it.

Until there is a playoff this will happen to somebody every single stinking year.

It's not 109. A simple Google search will fix that notion.

It all depends on which site you look at. I've seen it anywhere from 70-90.

That's part of the reason the OB took Kansas. They were afraid MU would look at it as a consolation game and pout all week. Looks like they were right.

Not that it makes much difference, but CBSSportsline has it at 74, and Sagarin/USA Today has it at 88.

ROYC75 12-04-2007 04:38 PM

Damn, Cry me a River, no wait, MU fans still are.

Come on people, is the prestige of the Orange Bowl that much ? Really, like Whilock said in todays paper, this is a better deal for MU, less expenses for their fans, Daniel is from Texas, a recruiting bed, more pub about recruits leading up to the game.......

FTR, I wanted the Cotton if we didn't make the NCG. MM does recruit well in Texas, it would have given him more exposure, and we all know there is alot there for him to be exposed.

Let it go people.........There will be more MU fans at the Cotton than would have traveled to the Orange in Miami, like wise with KU, the Cotton would have made more logical sense than the Orange.

Statements like this just go to show that no matter how successful the MU program is in any given season, their enjoyment barometer will always be measured by the success or failure that KU has.

I agree with almost everything you said. I don't see a big difference between the Orange and the Cotton and I for one am not pissed at all with KU. I am pissed at the BCS system but we all know thats been a mess for some time, and just think it has actually been improved... UGH!

According to that site, as of october 19, kU had an SOS of 116... :hmmm: but, it finally made its way down to 60 after you played us..... but that was the modified number... according to them you ended up with a 73... much better than 116.

Yeah, because if a team beats another team once by one possession its clearly the better team

Eleazar 12-04-2007 05:13 PM

I'm not sure you guys have been following this year. Missouri beat Kansas less than two weeks ago. I didn't think memory repression could happen so quickly. Mizzou wears Black and Gold.

It's the Aggies who are maroon and white, they are the ones you are better than. Better than the Aggies by, what, 19-11? That's only one possession, but I'll give you guys the benefit of the doubt and say that I think you are better than them.
