How was your 2007?

I read a thread on a Buick site I get on every now and then and read a lot of the posts, and thought it was pretty interesting to see how everyone's year went. This was my post on my 07, how was yours?

I guess any year your alive is good. My 07 wasn't the greatest. I lost all my basketball scholarships to College, found out I have two degenerate discs in my back, need to have my vertebrae fused to my spine, then I need to have another surgery to fix my nerve that's been messed up due to the disc problem in my back. I got my right knee scoped and my knee cap has not aligned back into the groove, and it's been a year and it's as bad as it was before I got the surgery. My dad had a heart attack, luckily he is doing well now. My dad's business has been really slow, and that makes for a stressful time, seeing as myself and my brother both work for him, and if no money is coming in how can it go out? It's been a long hard year, but the Lord got us through it, and hopefully he has better plans for us in 08 (at least better in our minds LOL).

Here is one from that thread that makes you feel bad.

Not the greatest. The wife was layed up 9 mos with a broken leg. Poor/barely existent disablilty insurance through her work (< 30% of her normal pay, before taxes) equates to lots of OT for me. Thankfull for the timing on that, but ended up taking very little enjoyable vacation, cashed a lot of it out for $. End result = best year I've ever had $ wise, less to show for it, and still had to sell parts and some valuable coins to keep our heads above water. Sad and frustrating, but the glass is still 1/5 full.........Oh yeah, in the middle of it all, in a 3 day span the refrigerator and washer took a dump and needed replaced........did I say it was 1/5 full ?!?! Anxiously awaiting a better '08

For some people it was an awful year, for others it was a great year, how was yours?

chiefqueen 12-28-2007 04:15 PM

Pretty well, went to Europe for the first time, got promoted.

Things to look forward in '08, getting another raise in a week due to a reclassification, going to France for 2 weeks in July (during the slowest time of year from a sports sense, but I'll be back before TC).

Rain Man 12-28-2007 04:17 PM

Why did the Europeans promote you?

Rain Man 12-28-2007 04:36 PM

Oh...and pretty good year for me. I didn't get hit by anything bigger than me, and my slidewalk toward death cruised along uninterrupted.

Bugeater 12-28-2007 04:39 PM

Well let's see, my business went belly up (although it was more due to events that happened in '05 and '06, I should've pulled the plug earlier), I started a real job only to have that employer screw me over (worked a bunch of overtime that I never got paid for), spent the past 2 1/2 months in extreme pain and racked up a bunch of medical bills in the process. I'd say it sucked major ass.

But I'll get over it. :)

Nobody threw chicken soup on you this year?

Delano 12-28-2007 04:43 PM

My grades were fantastic for the year. I think I ended up with a 3.95 GPA for the two semesters in 2007. I am preparing for the GRE and graduate school application process.

My personal life was great. My wife is happy, my dog is happy, I am happy.

My work life was mediocre this year. I started a job and loved it initially, but it fizzled out and now I'm doing odd jobs for people and building furniture for some cash.

No deaths in my immediate family and no major injuries to anyone I love.

All in all, 2007 was fantastic.

Chiefs_Mike_Topeka 12-28-2007 04:45 PM

2007 was the worst year I ever experienced; and ever will. Although it will continue with me the rest of my life.

I don't mean to be nosy, C_M_T, but what has been the legal outcome of your situation? Did the babysitter face any criminal or legal charges, or was it ruled an accident?

Again, no need to respond if you don't want to, and I hope the good memories eventually outweigh the bad ones for you. I'm just curious.

Not great, Not bad - kinda ehhh....

Had some financial troubles of my own. However did get to go see the Genesis Reunion Tour in Chicago. Had a guitarist leave my band, got two guitarist that are just as talented. I'd say not bad for 2007, ready for 2008!!! :)

The final 3 months made up for a pretty boring first 9 months... I went to London, found a better job (in Omaha, not London), moved to Omaha.

My only regret was not meeting the famous Rain Man at Arrowhead a couple of weeks ago.

As for 2008, I'm going to watch Kansas win the Orange Bowl ( ;) ), have the opportunity to travel quite a bit with my new job, and maybe even learn Spanish.

Did they promote you in London? They promoted chiefqueen when she went there.

London would never promote me, I think it has something to do with me expressing the opinion Heathrow was a great big dump of disorganized chaos and if I never step foot in that airport again, it will be too soon for me. My job promoted me.

BTW, when I go to France next year we are not going through London.

Joie 12-28-2007 08:28 PM

Aces proposed to me this year. In spite of all the other crap, I must say that makes this a pretty good year for me.

It was actually a good year for meeting Planeteers, met a lot at Phil's BBQ, more at the Planet Bash, and I even caught up with Mr. InChiefsHell a couple months ago. But alas, no Rain Man meeting this year for me either.

Charged with Aggravated Child Endangerment and Involuntary Manslaughter. (Finally) Nothing will happen until after the first of the year. Still facing months and months of legal issues. Makes it even harder for my family to start healing; trying to deal with everything.

Mike sorry to hear about your boy. Somehow I missed the original thread.

As far as my 2007 goes...

It started out lame, when the Bolts lost to the Pats I was super pissed, and didn't get over it until about July, I know I am lame.

At the beginning of the year, I was working 6-12 hours a week at $8/hr

At the end of the year I am working 40+ hours a week @ $15.25/hr

Cant really complain. Its been an above average year for me.

Buehler445 12-29-2007 09:59 AM

Condolonces to all the dudes that have had rough years. Keep your heads up, men.

My 2007 was full of change. I graduated with my MBA, moved away from everything I know to start a new job and proposed to my fiancee.

As to whether or not that stuff is good, I don't really know. Its good to finally be done with college, but I wish I didn't have so damn many student loans. My fiancee is great. As for uprooting and moving to BFE Nebraska, that's still up in the air. It would be nice to be closer to everyone I know, but things appear to be going OK.

crazycoffey 12-29-2007 10:14 AM

ummmm - I'm a die hard Chiefs fan.....

Actually, all in all not the worst year (although close), despite a LOT of personal crap. I'm still healthy and still have family that haven't disowned me yet. Got a better job, made some good solid plans for retirement someday.

jjchieffan 12-29-2007 12:21 PM

Rough year here. Besides the fact that the Chiefs sucked and DE jr. had a miserable year, things that actually matter went bad too. I only managed to work about 4 months this year. I got stiffed for about $6000 from the work I did do. But, I am optimistic. While I was out of work, I made a career change. I got my license to sell Health, accident, and life insurance. I plan to start that right after the first of the year. Hopefully, that will do well and I can recover fairly quickly from the financial hole I am in now.

DanT 12-29-2007 02:10 PM

It's been a pretty tough year for me in terms of stress and anxiety at work, but it has had a couple of highlights.

I've lost about 90 pounds or so since December 1, 2006, so at least 75 of those pounds disappeared in 2007, thanks to a lot of exercise and healthy eating. I got my first academic appointment (Asst. Professor in Residence). [The job's very stressful, but at least I'm putting my Ph.D. to use.] And I took my first overseas trip, to Greece.
