Brodie Croyle- What do you expect in '08?

Here are the parameters for this thread:

1) Assuming we don't draft a QB in the 1st Round

2) Brodie is named the starter

3) We make definitive improvements to the O-Line via draft, possibly FA.

4) L.J. and Kolby return healthy and ready to roll.
Edit:
5) Brodie remains healthy

That being said, if Croyle is the starter, what do you expect as far as stats, wins, game started, games played?

What would it take for you to be satisfied?

Here are some of my expectations(what it would take for me to be reasonably satisfied):

2,700-3,200 yards passing
60% completion
15-20 TD's/15 INT's

16 Games Started (I'd only be satisfied if he started the whole season, without injury.)

I'd be satisfied with 7-9 wins.

GoHuge 12-30-2007 10:04 PM

League MVP! The next Patriots. Who the hell knows what they are going to give the kid to work with.

Hammock Parties 12-30-2007 10:06 PM

It depends on the line and the running game. If the running game is top 15, he better be a top 15 quarterback.

Here's what I expect.

eazyb81 12-30-2007 10:15 PM

Holding the clipboard for Brian Brohm by the 4th game.

'Hamas' Jenkins 12-30-2007 10:15 PM

58% completion rate, 3400 yards, 21 TDs, 16 picks.

Time to throw Tavaris Jackson, Vince Young, Eli Manning and Philip Rivers on the scrap heap, then.

FringeNC 12-30-2007 10:18 PM

Let's wait to see what the big changes are. If Herm and Dick Curl are gone, Brodie may do well next season.

cdcox 12-30-2007 10:23 PM

There are only 4 numbers I care about:

completion percentage: >60%
yards per attempt: >6.8
TD/INT >1
wins >4

If he hit all of those, I'd give him another year.

I think all those guys pretty much suck.

Demonpenz 12-30-2007 10:25 PM

I ususally expect the worse case senerio so he will probably be injured by a non contract drill

louie aguiar 12-30-2007 10:25 PM

Injury.

Eleazar 12-30-2007 10:26 PM

You can't build a line in one offseason, and we need 4 players.

I just hope he's better at the end of the year than the start.

Let me also add that he plays 12+ games.

I expect Carl to be watching the game from the field level seats.

bs, we pretty much built an o line in 1 year when dv was here

year 1 was horrible

next year waters moved to guard, picked up roaf, tait moved to lt, weigmann in fa

the only difference is that we originally had a stud in shields, we still have a stud in waters

i think svitek can be a good RIGHT TACKLE, we need a lt,

It was not nearly as bad as it was this year. Not even close.

2001 we were 5th in total offense, had the league's leading rusher and gave up 39 sacks. The line wasn't great, but it wasn't bottom barrel by any means.

'Hamas' Jenkins 12-30-2007 10:37 PM

Waters is not a stud at all. He's looking like the beneficiary of playing on either side of two hall of famers.

if i recall correctly, the majority of Priest yards were in garbage time and trent green was too busy trying to get the ball of hastily (i don't remember him having an int with time that year) the sack total is skewed cause tg was lobbing it up for grabs

you can throw a strawberry in a toilet bowl full of turds, it's still a strawberry

I remeber waters knocking the **** out of ray lewis one on one and lewis pissing about he's getting double teamed

3 of 4 are, and the one that missed, just barely missed.

But according to GC's "Top 15" requirement, they suck.

So, it's unreasonable for me to expect:

167-200 yards passing

and roughly 1 TD/1 INT a game ??

Assuming he starts all games.

catfish307 12-30-2007 11:28 PM

I'll give him 1500 yards, 30 or more interceptions and 12 touchdowns if he plays all 16 games and the O line improves. I still dont believe he has what it takes to be a starter in this league.

Haha. Okay, let's use the 6 games he has played in for a projection point.

6 Games:

927 yards passing/155 a game

5 TD's/5 INT's

58.98% completion

16 Games:

2,472 yards passing

13 TD's/13 INT's

Completion % unchanged

I only used the games he started in for statistical comparison. If I throw in the games he came in for Huard or played part of the stats just get better.

That's just a very loose projection of what he could have done statistically if he'd started 16 games this season, could be worse, probably would have been better. We'll never know. But I certainly don't look for him to average less than 100 yards passing a game and less than 1 TD and nearly 2 INT's a game like you do.

Call me an optomist if you like, but numbers don't lie. I don't pin him to do nearly as poorly as you might think with a hopefully improved supporting cast.

jjchieffan 12-30-2007 11:40 PM

I think he has a similar season to what Cutler had this year. 20 TD, 14 INT 3497 yds, 88.1 passer rating.

Hell If he is the starter I'd love to see him throw for 10,000 yards and 50 TD's with no int's. I also don't see him staying healthy enough to get the stats.

You're right. All of these stats are contingent on him staying healthy and starting 16 games. If we acquired a LT who could protect his blinside, and one decent guard to stop the pass-rush up front, I think it could work wonders.

I think he's taken quite a few lumps, and got right back up. At the same time I think this coaching staff has handled him with kid gloves, and those are about to come off. If he gets hurt in the first week, the middle of the season, or the last of the season, he's obviously not the guy for the job. I'm just being optomistic and hoping a couple more OL and a RB in the backfield that's willing to block will give Croyle the adequate amount of time to help him further along in his development.

Yeah..I'd imagine you'd be seeing the bench somewhere around the 20-25 mark.

el borracho 12-31-2007 01:15 AM

IIRC, Green threw 24 in his first year here and it was a team record. I'm not sure what the league record is but I would be surprised if it was as many as 30. That is just a ridiculous number of interceptions.

Especially considering he projected Croyle to throw for 1,500 yards. That's an INT for every 50 yards he throws.

Pretty outrageous.

San Diego built a line in one year in 2004. They had 5 new starters (tho 2 players moved to different positions), and the line gelled by year's end. They started two rookie linemen with Nick Hardwick at C and Shane Olivea at RT, and brought in a veteran stop gap at LT (Roman Oben).

That year, Drew Brees blossomed after struggling for 3 seasons. The chargers thought so little of brees, they took Eli Manning no. 1 overall and traded him for Philip Rivers plus a 1st they turned into shawn merriman in 2005.

Also, Antonio Gates came from nowhere (undrafted rookie FA) to set the NFL record to TE touchdowns in a season.

HonestChieffan 12-31-2007 07:23 AM

By preseason end we will be looking at his replacement, Herm will say its OKAYYYYYY, and you will get over it.

cookster50 12-31-2007 07:45 AM

Injured while getting some from Kelli.

CupidStunt 12-31-2007 07:45 AM

League-worst 5.8 YPA, 5 games missed due to injury, 15 INTs, 60 sacks.
