What happened to the hot coaching commodity Marty Shottenheimer?!

The Ravens and Dolphins have hired their HCs. The Falcons look like they are hiring the Jax DC for their HC. The Redskins will not hire Marty. What happened? Any Marty backers wanna explain?

Phobia 01-23-2008 04:22 PM

Some teams like to win in the post-season. That's all I can think of....

Were I him, I wouldn't take another job unless I had total control.

Look, everyone knows Marty is a good coach.

The also know where the road will ultimately end, and they probably figured it was better to go with an unknown instead.

shyguyms 01-23-2008 04:23 PM

the Ravens was the team that was interested but they dont have the players so they went the easy route and took an unknown guy for less money, thats what happend. Jimmy Johnson,Bill Cowher and Marty are all the same great coaches that want a team they can win with right away and have the power to get who they want when they want and yes they wan't payed.
Who in the hell would want to coach the Falcons or Dolphins besides the money not many people would want to leave a pee wee job for one of those teams.

[QUOTE=Frankie]The Redskins will not hire Marty.

ha, ha, that's rich-excellent point!

Brock 01-23-2008 04:26 PM

He's a multi-millionaire and doesn't have to take whatever crap jobs are out there?

HUH?? When Marty took over the Bolts they were horrible.

Marty didnt have to coach ever again after the Redskins. He got a HUGE multimillion dollar buyout from Synder, but yet he chose still chose to go the Bolts.

Panther's--- after next season when Hurney & Fox, along with shakey Jakey get the boot.

Good point, you genius. Maybe he's waiting until the Chiefs job comes open again.

ceebz 01-23-2008 04:52 PM

I'm surprised Marty hasn't gone back to ESPN. I thought he was a pretty good analyst.

Great. Carl would FINALLY be gone and I'd have to start a death watch for THAT duo.

No thank you.

unothadeal 01-23-2008 05:02 PM

He's mourning the death of Heath Ledger.

RustShack 01-23-2008 05:08 PM

Hes waiting to take his job as the Chiefs GM.

I don't think I'd hate that. His experience as a football man would be more helpful than taking the next young prodigy. Prodigies generally learn things the hard way. At least Marty knows every way to NOT win a playoff game. Presumably he would apply those lessons to building a winning franchise as GM.

bogey 01-23-2008 06:14 PM

I thought I heard somewhere that he wasn't interested in coaching this year.

Um, Marty decided it would be more fun to sit home and continue cashing checks from the Chargers?

That right there might kill my dwindling interest in the Chiefs. Jesus.

You liked his post so much, I hope you gave him a rep too.

Rain Man 01-24-2008 09:18 AM

Carl won't hire any coach where he doesn't have to give up a draft choice. You get what you pay for, right?

Simply Red 01-24-2008 09:28 AM

Organizations seek youth/freshness as of late.

KurtCobain 01-24-2008 09:38 AM

We'll go 2-14 next year and Clark'll think, 'well, I remember days when we won some games', so then he'll fire herm and king carl, and hire marty do coach and have complete control.

I don't know. We gave a fourth for Herm but Herm's gotten us a high first this year...

chagrin 01-24-2008 11:06 AM

I think his stock went down the second Sand Diego beat Indy, maybe?

Did Chiefsplanet really have a large enough Marty contingent to even warrant this thread?

I'm not a huge Marty fan, but not a hater either. Much like Vermeil, he gave me a lot of fun years of Chiefs football. I can think of more than one team in the NFL that could probably do a lot worse than Marty and his play-off chokes.
