We lose that game without Kaun. No question about it. Eat shit CoMoChief.

KU Player of The Game - Sasha Kaun

yeah, eat shit CoMoHoMoChief

Tactical Funky 03-30-2008 06:02 PM

So, CoMo bashes Kaun incessantly all year, and the Big Russian ends up being our MVP and the reason we're in the Final Four?

I love it. LMAO

ArrowheadHawk 03-30-2008 06:21 PM

Thank You Kaun.

doomy3 03-30-2008 06:41 PM

Seriously, there were many points in today's game where it seemed like Kaun was the only guy really keeping us going. He played such a solid game both offensively, defensively and rebounding. Really the last 2 games, he has been the team MVP.

CoMoChief 03-30-2008 06:56 PM

Kaun had a good game. Probably one of the very few this season. But this was more of the fact that Bill Self was playing Davidson's game and not the other way around, which is what he generally does in tournament games.

he's learning

man if he'd been coached by Manning the whole time

think how good he'd been now

Self should be kicked in the groin and have to give half his salary to Danny Manning :shake:

Shut the **** up. Brandon Rush went 2-11 in the first half. Darnell Jackson acted like he hadn't ever stepped on a basketball court before. Self did a GREAT job by benching Jackson, who has been a leader this season, and going with Kaun for the majority of the game. How exactly was KU "playing Davidson's game" anyway?

but Self did have the same lame ass play to run with the game on the line ........ which didn't work again.

inbound ...... ball to russell

russell drives the ball left to right

If Russell can't penetrate then he dishes the ball to chalmers who is curling right to left.

If Chalmers can't penetrate then he dishes the ball to Rush who is ready to shoot a 3 from the wing.

the same play that we've been running for the last errr 3 years.

Self is also the Coach who has us with vitually no real inbound plays to speak of or know significant half court plays to run if things go wrong with our shooting/fast breaks.

Self is a good guy ..... but hardly a good X's and O's guy.

Davidson gets some of the credit on that one. They really play out of their skulls on D. We missed some shots we've been making recently, but some of it was due to their persistence on D.

Yep and some of the 5 footers were missed because we were spooked because we got the previous 4 attempts blocked.

I'm not certain, but I am pretty sure it was Collins with the ball in his hands at the end, not Russell. I think Self thought Collins would take his man off the dribble, but for some reason he didn't. The problem was, IMO, that we had 4 guards in the game at the end, and so we probably don't really have many offensive plays for that lineup since we run it so rarely.

Yeah, but Roy usually had his kids amped up for big games. KU under Self comes out frighteningly flat many times. I think Davidson was a lot better than they got credit for, but KU should have gone on a run against them at some point.

With the win today Self now has 8 more wins than Roy did in his first 5 years. With a chance to add to it.

Roy helped dig the program out NCAA violations and Bill started with talent already in place to make a title run. Roy also went to more final fours.

Roy won 30 games his second year. Some hole. Roy went to 2 FF's in the first 5 years, Self 1. Small difference since FF's don't pay shit unless you win it all which Roy NEVER did. Self gets 15 more tries.

Every one seed has had their hands full at at least one point in the tourney, and today was just our day to have a close battle.

Collins is still getting over tonsillitis (which was given to him by Stewart), and the team played unusually tight for most of the game because, IMO, they were trying too hard to get the win for Self and didn't let things flow naturally. Against UNC, all of the pressure is on Roy.

Danny Manning, more than anything, has been a factor for this Final Four run. His work this season on Kaun and Jackson has been nothing short of amazing.

If I were artistic, I would draw a cartoon of Tyler, from the back, of him standing, hands on hips, Superman style, wearing his uniform. You would be able to see a partial head next to his crotch, someone obviously on his knees in front of him with some dress shoes sticking out.

There would be a line of people waiting on the side, Dick Vitale, Digger Phelps, Billy Packer etc. There would be a sign at the front of the line saying "Line starts here for Physco T interviews"

The dialogue bubble coming from Tyler would read "Why, yes Mr. Bilas, my dick does feel funny in your mouth."

As a side note, John Madden would be at the end of the line, he would be looking directly at you and his dialogue bubble would say "What!? Brett retired."

Ummm........
Not to knock on Roy because he was a great coach for KU but.....

His teams did lose a few 2nd round and Sweet Sixteen games when KU was a heavy favorite.

One could argue that Self still had some talent that Roy left. However, most of that talent did not fit Self's style of coaching. So, he had to build this team to play his style. That explains the 2 1st round losses before the Elite Eight last year and the Final Four this year, IMO.

And they've come out flat a few times when they've had 5+ days off. They had a week off before playing OSU, strugged with A&M in the first half after having 5 days off (iirc), struggled with Nebraska in the first half in the Big 12 tournament... I thought it might come back to bite them in the Sweet Sixteen, but playing Villanova helped. On top of that, they've played nervous in their last two EE games.

Maybe Self should have them watch ESPN all week, so they can get pumped up knowing they'll be playing against God, er, Hansbrough.

yeah, that box and 1 - which we haven't used all year (maybe on beasley for a moment) - that held Curry scoreless for most of the second half was dumb luck....

missing wide open shots like we did all game has nothing to do with "x's and o's"...it's just kids feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders....

we had everything to lose...Davidson had nothing to lose...both teams played accordingly...

how on earth a KU fan could continue to spout this cliched, Vitale-level nonsense about Self not being a good "x's and o's" crap is beyond me...

I agree. I didn't think Self was a bad x's and o's coach before. But the game plan on defense was fantastic, IMO. Self has really impressed me this year with his coaching. Another example of good coaching is when he sat Darnell Jackson and put in Kaun. Jackson looked like crap the first several minutes and Kaun was a great bench option.

Another thing about the defensive game plan. Self said they went to a triangle and 2 for a few plays. That was when Barr (sp?) hit those two 3 pointers. They never used that defense again. At least he isn't a bullheaded, stubborn coach like Herm.

This just in, Sasha just picked up his second foul, Jackson and Aurthur are on the bench with 3 already. Syko T with zero fouls or traveling calls is shooting is 11 and 12 FT shots.. Oh and did you know we would only be 35 seconds into the game when this happens? Damn he has heart and whatever the **** they drool over when they are swallowing his load.

Syko T sets NCAA record with 42 FT's in one half...

I know about any of you other Jayhwaks, but is anyone else ecstatic about being the Final Four, 35-3-confrence and tourney champion-5 senior-NBA talented underclassmen....UNDERDOG!

All the pressure is on UNC, its there coaching staff that are former KU coaches and players, they have the overall number one, they're the prohibitive favorite, they have the star player. I think we really come out loose and energized for the first time in this tournament in the semi-final.

Rock Chalk! Great Season! Great Year to be a Jayhawk!
