Where does last night rank in the greatest games you've seen?

I'd say it's probably in the Top Ten for me, if not the top five.

Nothing yet tops the Rams winning the Super Bowl by a yard in my lifetime. That's probably the best game I've ever seen. And hell, as good as last night was, I don't think it was the best game of 2008, as I think the Giants ousting the Patriots was better.

Other games that have thrilled me: Jordan winning championship #6 with his final shot, Vince Young vs. Matt Leinart in the Rose Bowl, the five-set marathon between Samprass and Agassi (one of the last times they played), Tiger Woods winning the Masters by 18 strokes...

Direckshun 04-08-2008 08:27 AM

Just remembered Kerri Strug, which is probably a Top Five moment, gymnastics-haters be damned.

Oh, and Baggio blowing the World Cup by sending the PK sailing over the crossbar.

Reerun_KC 04-08-2008 08:28 AM

Tops eva!

007 04-08-2008 08:31 AM

KU over Memphis
Royals over Stl
Danny over OK

the top spot will always be reserved for the chiefs though.

DenverChief 04-08-2008 08:35 AM

Wow good ones

for me the Rockies comeback in game 163 down by 3 runs to the Padres in the 13th to win and make the playoffs was huge

Montana v Elway

Rams v Tits superbowl

Montana v Buddy Ryan

Montana v the Steelers ( the 4th down TD pass to Tim Barnett)

1988 Danny Manning v OU

Easy 6 04-08-2008 08:36 AM

I'm not sure where to rank it, but its up there...and thats high praise from me.

Memphis basically had the game locked up, but KU refused to die until the fat lady had removed her corset & viking helmet.

I would imagine that this game goes down as one of the very best ever.

DaKCMan AP 04-08-2008 08:37 AM

Games I'd rank above this one:

Texas-USC NC game.
Boise St.-Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl
Florida-South Carolina 2006 game where the Gators blocked two kicks, one being a FG as the clock expired (probably elevated since I was there and my heart nearly popped out of my chest).
Chiefs-Donks - the battle between Montana and Elway capped by the Willie Davis TD.
Chiefs-Raiders when Grbac hit Rison in the endzone to win it late.

Chief Henry 04-08-2008 08:39 AM

As an Iowa fan, I watched last nights game just wondering how in the hell does
Coach Lichlighter ever get recruits like Rush or Chalmers to even consider Iowa.

The pure athletisism that was on display last night was just incredible. To see
players go up for a driving shot, and then delay in the air for a fraction of a second to get a cleaner shot...or for a player to go up for a shot with the ball in one hand, and then shooting it with the other hand ....thats sic for this balding white hair middle aged
man to think that guys are that ATHLETIC. It was an incrdeble game to watch and
enjoy. Congrats Jay hawks. Iowa has a long log long long way to go.

Radar Chief 04-08-2008 08:44 AM

But last nights was a pretty good one too.

R&GHomer 04-08-2008 08:48 AM

Easily the best basketball game I have ever watched. Hands down, bar none.

Braincase 04-08-2008 08:51 AM

Without question, the greatest Final Four in KU basketball history, Big 12 basketball history, and one of the top 3 in NCAA history.

Bearcat 04-08-2008 08:55 AM

1) Northwest Missouri State vs. Carson-Newman, 1999 DII NC game. 58-52 in 4 OTs after NWMSU outscored CN 30-16 in the 4th quarter. Nothing comes close.

2) Kansas vs. Memphis

3) Game 5 of the Avalanche/Red Wings in 2002. Peter Forsberg, overtime.
4) Game 2 of the Avalanche/Red Wings in 2002. Chris Drury, overtime.
5) Game 7 of the Avalanche/Devils. Ray Bourque's Cup. Very high on emotion, but not that great of a game.

There's also that one college hockey NC game in 2000 or 2001 where North Dakota (iirc) held off a 5-3 in the last couple of minutes to win (it would be higher, but with no personal ties it's almost forgotten). The Mile High Miracle, Patriots/Rams, Giants/Rams, Boise State/OU and several other bowl games that I can't think of because I'm supposed to be working and not spending all my time reading about the NC... :D

Easy Money 04-08-2008 09:05 AM

That game made (any of) our games vs Texas seem boring. I had to piss for probably 30 minutes, but couldn't leave! Plus I went through 2 inhalers...

OH VEY! how could I forget those?

ArrowheadHawk 04-08-2008 09:20 AM

This is my favorite. I'm a little biased though.

Were those actually on TV?

Molitoth 04-08-2008 09:33 AM

I'd say that was the best basketball game I have ever witnessed.

Last nights Kansas victory, that is...

Deberg_1990 04-08-2008 09:43 AM

Its easily the best basketball game ive seen since last night!

tyton75 04-08-2008 10:12 AM

It was a great game, and the only thing that pops into my head that could match it would be the Villanova upset of Georgetown...

I'm sure there are better examples.. that just comes to mind right now

TEX 04-08-2008 10:30 AM

Definatley top 5 for me.
However, nothing tops Houston vs Louisville in National Semi Final match in the early '80's.

Or NC State over Houston the year before. I still can't believe it, and I was there. It's the one game in any sport that I will NEVER get over. :cuss:

teedubya 04-08-2008 10:37 AM

For me.

1. Game 6 World Series 1985. I was 12 and a HUGE Royals Fan... I couldn't believe it.
2. Kansas vs. Memphis. Obviously.
3. Game 7 World Series 1985. 11-0 was unreal.
4. KU vs OK 1988.
5. Chiefs at Broncos 1994, Montana to Willie Davis, breaking a 13 game losing streak in Mule High.

Best MNF game fo sho!

Direckshun 04-08-2008 10:48 AM

I forgot last year's NBA Eastern semifinals, with LaBron outscoring the Pistons in the 4th quarter and overtime entirely by himself.

acesn8s 04-08-2008 12:44 PM

Many great games listed but I would be unable to rank them. To add some of my own, Vanovers kick return against SD in OT. Dale Jr. winning at Daytona after Dale Sr. died. App. St. over Mich. St. last year. I would put SBIV in there but I wasn't old enough to watch it.

Yes, that was before Bettman really ruined the NHL. Who knew an already-struggling 'major' sport needed to keep a good relationship with ESPN to stay successful? :banghead:

The playoffs start this week, right after bull riding and before the bass fishing marathon, so get to one of the 7 homes with Versus and watch!!

markk 04-08-2008 01:02 PM

i didn't really see it as one of the greatest games ever or anything. the shot to send it to overtime was great, true. but when the game was finished the teams were 6 points apart. memphis rolled over when they should have put them away in regulation and then they didnt make a field goal until there was about a minute left in overtime. basically the last 7 minutes or so of the game were not competitive at all. kansas demoralized and ran them over at the end

Chiefmanwillcatch 04-08-2008 01:27 PM

I can only think of Laetner and Duke.

siberian khatru 04-08-2008 01:42 PM

Better than the best soccer game I've ever seen

ChiefsCountry 04-08-2008 01:45 PM

Vince Young beating USC was #1 for me, followed by Boise St vs OU. Chiefs vs. Broncos in 1994 is next.

Demonpenz 04-08-2008 02:06 PM

Best games I haver ever seen with my eyes

Missouri Western beating Northwest in overtime 2004. I was a senior so that was nice.
Boise State vrs Oklahoma
The yankees red sox games were dave roberts stole second and later scored.
Diamond backs Win over rivera for the WS.
Stoyonavich for presidence was my first chiefs game

Im with you. Best game ever, come on folks lets be realistic. Was it a great shot, yes I am not denying that. It was a great game to watch, but one of the best, no. Memphis killed themselves when they couldn't make a free throw, and their best player decided he wasn't going to try and score for the first 3/4 of the game. It was an entertaining NC game, and was great for any KU fans, congratulations on a good win.

Silock 04-08-2008 02:45 PM

If it was Memphis/UNC, I'd agree with you... but, throw in the emotions of a Kansas or Memphis fan watching KU's lead slip away, then fall down by 9, then the Collins' steal & 3 to spark the comeback...

I'd probably have OU/Boise State as #2 or 3 on my list if I had really cared who won. It had everything a neutral observer could ask for, but without a dog in the fight, I wasn't hanging on every second like I do for 'my' teams... and that makes a huge difference, IMHO.
