Donks close to getting Dewayne Robertson

Hooray for Shanny going insane with the trades again!

According to several league sources, the NY Jets are close to acquiring two of the five draft choices the Denver Broncos currently possess between the fourth-and-sixth round in what would breakdown to basically a sign-and-trade deal for former first-round defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson.

The Broncos will need to sign Robertson to a new deal prior to the draft in order to allow the trade to be completed. The Broncos have picks #108 and #119 in the fourth, as well as #139 and #148 in the fifth and #183 in the sixth round.

Dealing Robertson would save the Jets about $8 million as he currently is scheduled to count $11 million against the team's cap.

Oh, he's going to be a terror. a bowling ball with butcher knives.

ROFL

KCChiefsMan 04-13-2008 06:49 PM

so he turned out to be pretty much a bust?

Bowser 04-13-2008 06:50 PM

Rat has forgotten how to actually build a team, so now he's trying to buy one.

2112 04-13-2008 06:50 PM

This is a great trade for the Jets. Robertson is ok, but he's one play away from never playing again with his chronic knee problems.

Hammock Parties 04-13-2008 06:51 PM

Mangina is tearing down the house that Herm built.

Sounds like Donk fans aren't too thrilled.

Here we go again.

The more things change (Sundquist) the more they stay the same. Picking up FA's or trading picks for old, injured and often underachieving D-line guys is a Shanahan tradition around here. Maybe we'll get lucky this time around...but I won't hold my breath. This guy sounds like he fits the profile to a T.

Why can't we just hire somebody in the personnel department who knows how to find talent in the draft? I don't get it and I never will. After all this time, wouldn't it just make sene to fix this stupid problem once and for all instead of this endless parade of has-beens we keep recycling through here?

I guess....he was the Dorsey/Ellis of 2003.

Herm traded 2 number 1 picks to trade up to 4th overall to pick his ''new Warren Sapp''. he was not worth 2 #1 picks, that's for sure.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-13-2008 07:15 PM

His grade was not near Dorsey/Ellis:

For the hell of it:

Stength: Dewayne Robertson is a big man. Dewayne Robertson also runs well, moves quickly, and has good instincts for the ball. Dewayne Robertson's quickness can make him very disruptive on plays in the open field.
Weakness: Dewayne Robertson tends to disappear from the game when he's taking on a couple bigger offensive linemen.
Development: Dewayne Robertson has all of the physical tools, like most early draft picks. He is considered by many scouts to be a developmental prospect who can contribute in his first year because of his physical skills, but shouldn't be expected to be a top DT until/unless he develops some moves and irons out some bad habits. Another year of college might have been good, but how do you argue with #1 DT in the draft money?

Bill S Preston 04-13-2008 07:28 PM

I guess that Shanahan hasn't learned from his previous mistakes yet? Donks trying to make more desperation moves on the d-line where Shanahan can't draft anybody whose good.

JBucc 04-13-2008 08:06 PM

It's great to see the former genious continue to trade picks for crappy players desperately trying to make up for his shitty drafts.

cdcox 04-13-2008 08:10 PM

What, are the Browns out of crappy defensive linemen?

Mr. Laz 04-13-2008 08:23 PM

gotta love his aggressiveness but he keeps trying to buy a defensive line and it's killing him.

BigRock 04-13-2008 08:37 PM

It's rare that one ever gets a chance to say this, but... too bad we already got rid of Sims.

'Hamas' Jenkins 04-13-2008 09:22 PM

We should just trade them Sedrick Ellis for their next 8 #1's.

Thing is, he did okay last year drafting three quality DL prospects. Moss, Crowder, and Thomas were all good value picks.

He should just stay with that rather than worrying about all these castoffs.

Mile High Mania 04-14-2008 06:12 AM

Don't forget to mention that they're on the verge of signing either Sammie Parker or Darrell Jackson... maybe both, who knows. I dunno.

Now hold on there......We know Herm is an expert at building defenses and evaluating talent. This guy must be great. You wait and see, Herm will do something equally smart for the Chiefs. That is why he was hired.

Chiefnj2 04-14-2008 07:28 AM

You'd think Herm would want to pursue his former #1 picks like Vilma and Robertson.

Maybe he knows that Robertson has bad knees and Vilma is coming back from a serious knee injury? :hmmm:

vailpass 04-14-2008 09:00 AM

Didn't Dwayne Robertson's knees file retirement papers in 2006?

the Talking Can 04-14-2008 09:05 AM

DL #3245643 for the Donkos

Mile High Mania 04-14-2008 09:07 AM

I've learned to just accept failure with the Dline... trade, FA, draft... doesn't matter. I'm hoping the 2007 draft picks turn out to be pretty nice, but who knows.

After letting guys like Hayward, Berry and Pryce go... they've been searching and searching and searching. They should have just paid those guys.
