They must be virtually solely responsible for the entire bullpen ERA.

They pretty much are. For the most part guys like Ron Mahay, Leo Nunez, and Joaquim Soria have been lights out.

keg in kc 04-19-2008 02:27 PM

Apparently the A's have commited an error in 12 consecutive games.

Deberg_1990 04-19-2008 02:29 PM

Its finally nice to see that Grienke appears to be putting it all together this year and living up to his hype of the past 3 years.

Mama Hip Rockets 04-19-2008 02:31 PM

olivo is now 2 for 2 with 2 home runs when batting with a full count this season.

Grienke needs a couple quick innings or he won't make it past the 6th.

He's keeping his ERA down, but this has been a relatively rough start (compared to the other 3...) and his pitch count is creeping up.

alnorth 04-19-2008 03:54 PM

6th inning

Top 6th

Joey Devine relieves Smith

Butler flies out to center
Guillen strikes out (looking)
Gordon flies out to left

Crosby grounds into a 6-4 fielder's choice, R. Sweeney out at second

1 run, 3 hits

alnorth 04-19-2008 03:59 PM

In case anyone is wondering about earned runs for Greinke, apparently the official scorer decided not to assume the double play, and assume Ellis would have still scored without the error, but Barton would have been held to first base and never come around to score.

alnorth 04-19-2008 04:15 PM

Well, crap. At least Greinke wont lose the game.

alnorth 04-19-2008 04:15 PM

Yea, pretty much. Its been discussed over and over but basically our corner outfielders have ZERO power. We have guys who can hit, but dont have alot of power. The Royals want to pretend its the 1970's still

eazyb81 04-19-2008 04:36 PM

What happened to our vaunted bullpen?

After starting the game up 4 runs, this should have been a win.

Zero power, zero plate discipline, terrible baserunning.

Stat: Royals are 3rd in the AL in batting average, but 13th in OBP and 12th in SLG. So although they have a high BA, they are DEAD LAST in runs scored.

Not only are they not getting runners on base, but they are losing far too many of the few baserunners they have to caught stealing and getting thrown out trying to stretch singles into doubles, etc.

And please, don't anyone give me this "Well, at least we're aggressive." We're not being aggressive, we're being STUPID, and it's costing us two extremely valuable commodities right now -- baserunners and outs.

Sam Hall 04-19-2008 05:06 PM

I'd like to see a list of potential free agent position players. More specifically, guys who strike out less than Guillen.

alnorth 04-19-2008 05:09 PM

9th inning

Top 9th

Guillen doubles to center
Gordon strikes out (swinging)
Olivo flies out right, Guillen to third
Buck singles to right, Guillen scores

Alberto Callaspo bats for Pena Jr

Esteban German runs for Buck

Callaspo flies out to left

1 run, 2 hits

Athletics win, 6-5

Fish 04-19-2008 05:11 PM

Guillen finally getting his bat under him....

siberian khatru 04-19-2008 05:18 PM

Fabulous AB by Gordon -- right up until he struck out.

kcchiefsus 04-19-2008 08:49 PM

We are developing a trend. Score a few runs in the first couple of innings and then sit back and don't do shit on offense the rest of the game.

And the sad part is, do we really have anybody in the minors who looks to be a star positional player and can hit? We either have guys who can hit great but can't play in the field or guys that can play in the field but can't hit worth crap.

Smed1065 04-19-2008 08:50 PM
