Flutie and the Dolts.......Could they take the West?
Hey.......its not too far-fetched when you think about it. They start off the season by playing Washington, Dallas, Cincinnati, Cleveland and New England. Don't laugh, but they could be 5-0 and leading the West by Week 6. They play Oakland tough. They play KC tough. If their thin O-line doesn't collapse, Flutie and an improved O might manage a near split of their remaining games giving them 10 or 11 wins. I'm not overlooking any AFC West team - too many times I've been unpleasantly surprised by the unexpected.
I am.......inhumane. |
The duck man cometh!!!
Where you been?
|
I think the Chargers will be much improved, but only if:
1. The o-line improves 2. They find a couple of decent WR's(Jeff Graham & Curtis Conway aren't the answers) 3. LaDainian Tomlinson gets into camp(i'm not sure if he's signed yet, is he?). If Tomlinson doesn't show, who's gonna run the ball(besides Flutie)? |
Damn, Duck - I don't think they'll win 6 games all year, much less 5 of their first 5.....
Somebody delete this topic soon. The Duck has been smoking the wacky weed again. |
Hey mi.....ya freakin Chiefs fan....I'm still here. I get a bit slow in the offseason - but I'm warming up now. Opening day at Arrowhead...I've got to start early this season!
|
I doubt anybody thought the Ravens would win the Super Bowl. After that, I'll believe anything.
|
Think about it.....they were better than their 1-15 record last year. A lot of those games were close losses. Even with the vision of Ryan Leaf spectre churning in thier guts they were close in many losses. Flutie is the Anti-Leaf.....he can make make those close losses close victories. Add to that a cream-puff schedule outside of their A-West rivals. Mix in the top pick in the draft. I ain't smoking duckweed. Really.
I am....inhumane. |
You are definitely smoking something dude ;)
A geriatric midgie mullet plus a good, but aging D, does not equate to a good team! Sure, midgie mullet is a vast improvement over Leaf/Harbaugh/Moreno/etc., but he's 1) Old 2) A midget 3) Sporting a mullet for gawd's sake! San Diego will finish no better than .500 :D |
I doubt the'll win the West but they could sweep the Raiders!
PhilFree  |
Flutie's a gamer. I was wanting to sign him as a backup. But his line sucks, the defense is too old, he has no receivers and his RB hasn't even signed yet.
Even an easy schedule can't help these guys. They'll be in their proverbial cellar... |
For your edification(look it up) :p

Screw Flutie. Screw the Chargers. I suggest you Raider types WORRY ABOUT US.
I think this being-owned-by-the-Raiders-shit went out the door with the Stooges and Gunther. BTW, welcome back, Duck.... :D |
I don't think so. Riley is not a Head Coach in the NFL. I think they might get 6 or 7 wins. But if Flutie goes down I think they will only get 3-4 wins this year. I think their front office is getting this team ready for Norm for next year.

FFrrazzod! This opener is way important to us Raider fanz. You guys are the only AFC West team with a winning record against Oakland. This opening day victory will even the series. Then the upcoming victory against the Devil's Red in Oaktown will put us back on top.
The 90's are over! The 90's are over! |
So is Gun & the Three Stooges' reign!
KC has a better QB, RB, a VASTLY improved coaching staff, and is no longer burdened by Chester McFatass. We have the edge because you've never played against this O - our DC hasn't lost a game -v- Oakland since CLinton's first term in office, and we'll be riding a wave of emotion. KC will steamroll the faiduhz... bank on it! :D |
The Devil's Red? Hmm.... never heard that one. Kinda like it, though. :D
As HC said, the days of Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest are OVER. Smelvis has left the building. Our new guys seem to learn from past mistakes instead of repeating them out of some sick sense of sentimentality. I don't want to go talking too much trash here, but.... Frazod predicts: Raiders go back to Chokeland 0-1! :D |
Two words.....No way.
Enough said. There's no way the Mullitt, a rook RB, and that sorry excuse of a wide recieving corp will ever be leading the West this season. |
HC,
That is too funny!!!!!:D :D Now the anwer to your question/topic, UD... No. |
No way in heck. I'd be surprised if this team wins 6 games this year. Flutie's gonna get punished this year.
|
You know, this got me thinking  does anyone ever remember a Chargers fan on any of our BBs? I can't think of one. We've had/have reps from all our other divisional foes as well as occasional vistors/trolls from the likes of the Lambs, Indy, Green Bay, Tampa Bay and even Chicago.
Where are all the Dolts fans? Are they hiding? Are they not on line? Hell, we didn't even get any that I recall after we handed them the "1" in 1 and 15. Kind of sad, I guess. |
Fraz - The year before last there was one, he was rather well beheved, but being a woefull Chargers fan that is to be expected. We might have had 2 of them, but if we did it was very short lived and they were from the same Chargers BB.
|
I guess when you're 1-15 you aren't likely to talk alot of smack. I think they are hiding.
Let's hope they CONTINUE to have reason to hide. |
Flutie is overrated. The media just loves to kiss his *** and play the size angle because it is good copy. Hell, even Ralph Wilson, the Bills' owner, was ripping Flutie.
Their offensive line sucks. Flutie is 38. They have a rookie behind him, and they have one real running back who isn't even close to signing yet. They may start off OK, but down the stretch, they will fade fast... |
I think the chances are very good.
Compared to the chances that all of California will fall into the pacific ocean within the next two weeks. Hey, everything is relative. |
They could...
that is if none of the other teams in the West play.
|
Horrible o-line.
Horrible secondary resulting in a pathetic pass defense (they'll still be stout against the run). Top reciever (Freddie Jones) injured early. LT holding out and missing tons of TC and preseason games (he'll be lucky if he doesn't get hurt this year). No, I don't think so. |
I think Chargers fans are a myth. I dont think they exist anymore than Bigfoot does.
|
Welcome back UD,
Don't want to annoy guests or anything, but you might oughta sell your backpack and make room for the big red monkey, he's back and he's pi$$ed. You heard it here first. UD is...inhumane. Forming an...inhumane society. Woof! Sandy Eggo...perfect chance to play spoiler this year. Mulletboy would like nothing better than to float some plastic poop in every Western punchbowl. And it'll be tougher to knock him down over and over and make him cry, unlike some other Sandy Eggo QB's we could name. |
Can somebody translate bigolchiefsfan for me? ;)
|

Translation: San Diego could very well upset everyone and win the AFC West. Flutie ('mulletboy') would like nothing more and it's going to be tough to knock him out of the game because he can run around unlike Ryan Leaf. :D |
Thanx Titus
for beating me to it. I was going to say I can talk Jive too.
|
Not to mention that the Chiefs have better talent on D than Denver :D
|
UD,
Despite the fact that you're a overraiteders fan, I'll cut you some slack. You make some very valid points about the Chargers and how their opening schedule is very favorable. However, because of the O-line, aging D, aging QB, etc., they don't have all the talent in place to challenge for the AFC West. Besides, even if you look beyond all that, who's their coach this year, Norv Turner? Norv was a great offensive coordinator but, he's not HC material, IMO.;) The team you need to be looking out for this year is the KC Chiefs. |
No freakin way this team is going anywhere. BD says they will end up 6-10.
|
lzen, it's worse than that. Norv Turner is their OC (HCotF, IMHO - poor SD) and Mike Riley is still their HC.
|
The utilization of some of the players in SD is not up to par so . . . personally I don't think they're gonna do a thing. They could fool us, but let's not get carried away
|
Besides Ethelyn, When they released there best offensive player last year they greatly reduced their chances of winning.
PhilFree  |
Darn, I didn't know that Ryan Leaf meant that much to the team:D :D :D
|
yeah, right...
and the next thing you'll say is that Junior Seau isn't overrated...
|
Dude, I must be giggly today because HC's post cracked me up! I happened to skip Olbigchiefsfan's post until I read keg's post, and then THAT cracked me up!! I think dude is Boomhauer. "You know them, thar read monkey plastic poop, man." Man, I'm almost crying here!!! Hilarious!
|
Doesn't take much effort just to state fact...
|
The Chargers will be 4th in the division, IF they overachieve.
LT already has an attitude problem, and Flutie has no targets. |
I concede also H-boy
... can't stand to have a pi$$ing match with someone who's smarter than me...
|
Got to disagree, JQ.
now that Raylee's healthy and they added Wiley their D-line is tough!... Their d-line was tough last year, too. Nobody is disputing that. They'll continue to have one of the stiffest run defenses in the league. Their LB core and safeties are solid Their LB core exemplifies the entire problem with the defense -- they're big and they hit hard, which is great against the run, but they're not very good in pass protection. As for the safeties, Harrison is solid, but Rogers Beckett isn't anything to write home about, at least not yet. ...and they added McNeil and Molden at corner who are improvements over what they had.... Yeah, the problem is that Harrison is still the only solid player in their secondary. They may be improved slightly, which means they'll only give up 3600 yards and 29 TDs through the air, a marked improvement from last year's numbers (3786 yd, 33 td). SD will be no layup for anybody IMO... and Seattle is the team from the West I look forward to playing the least this year.... No team in the West is ever a layup for anyone. I think SD will, however end up a 6-10 or 7-9 team. There are way too many problems left with that squad. As for Seattle, I don't think they'll be that much improved in 2000, either. I question several of their personnel decisions, although to be frank, their defense was so bad last year that they probably can't do anything but improve. I put them in the KC range, somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7. Any team in the division could end up on top, though. It's happened before. I just happen to think that SD is the longest shot of the 5 teams, especially with LT holding out. He's their offense, not Flutie, and I'm beginning to think he'll be lucky to last 12 games. |
It's not just the blitzing JQ, their linebackers looked like fools in pass coverage more times than not last year, at least in several of the games I saw them play. They'll do well against you guys again unless Gannon has found a hidden reserve of arm strength and can throw a spiral over 25 yards. Otherwise, the dink-and-dunk just won't work well against their defense. Any team that can stretch the field, however (like us and like Denver), will have an absolute field day with them.
McNeil didn't impress me with Dallas. They needed to seriously address their CB position in 2001 and I don't think they did it. 3600 and 29 were just some random numbers for the sake of discussion. Not meant to be taken seriously... In my opinion they're going to have the "KC in the playoffs" syndrome in 2001, again -- it won't matter how good the defense plays if the offense can't put any points on the board. Some people have talked about their easy early-season schedule, but I think they'll be lucky to be 3-2 against Washington, Dallas, Cincinnati, Cleveland and New England, because they'll have trouble scoring against 3 of those teams (DC, Cincinnati and NE). |
