Collins is not that good after all

Why don't they go out there and sign Bishshop? He might not as good as people think but he is better than Chiefs two backup QBs right now.

NaptownChief 08-19-2001 11:56 AM

Based on what Russ? His inability to make the Pats roster? The fact that he was so impressive that nobody was willing to even trade some used jock straps for him?

WackyRuss 08-19-2001 11:59 AM

Based on what? On the way Chiefs backups were playing last night. Even grandpa Moon outplayed Collins last night.

NaptownChief 08-19-2001 12:02 PM

He couldn't beat out Tom Brady or Damon Huard for a spot...That isn't exactly like trying to crack a roster when GB had Favre, Brunell and Detmer...

Bubby actually played well last night and Collins wasn't as good as the Washington game but by no stretch was he horrible..

RedandGold 08-19-2001 12:10 PM

I would rather have McNown over Bishop and I can't stand McNown. Bishop was overrated in college (hence the reason why he fell so far in the draft), and he is still overhyped by K-State homers even though he hasn't shown squat at either the NFL or NFLE level.

The guy is dumb as a box of rocks and I would hate to see him even attempt to grasp an offense as complicated as this one. I would rather see us hang on to Ryan Helming for a while than waste our time with Bishop.

NaptownChief 08-19-2001 12:13 PM

If we are going to Homer this board over KSU QB's then why not start the Chad May chant...

alanm 08-19-2001 12:23 PM

I prefer Eric Crouch :D

NaptownChief 08-19-2001 12:27 PM

while we are at it lets go for Tommy Fraizer and why not Brooke Beringer....wait a minute, nevermind...

Cannibal 08-19-2001 12:29 PM

Collins is definitely not adequate to be our backup, especially when Green could be sidelined with knee problems at any time.

alanm 08-19-2001 12:31 PM

You know it's a damn shame that Brook Berringer was killed in that plane crash. I heard that KC was looking to draft him in the 2nd or 3rd rnd back in 96. I like to think that they would have and our present QB situation would have never evolved. Since Brooke would be our starter. :D :(

NaptownChief 08-19-2001 12:36 PM

Brooke had a chance to be good...Excellent wheels and a very solid arm...I know the Raiders were looking at him as a 2nd or 3rd rounder as were several others...

alanm 08-19-2001 12:41 PM

The guy had it all A cannon arm. Like you said wheels. He was fast!! Hollywood good looks. Intelligent Excellent leader on the field and in the locker room. And a straight A student to boot! And headed for a career in medicine if football didn't work out. But he had the talent to be a good pro QB. And then BAM he's dead. Man lifes unfair sometimes.

NaptownChief 08-19-2001 12:44 PM

I'll say...The good ones always go early, just like a football draft...:D

The Don Kings and Al Davis' of the world usually live to 110...

alanm 08-19-2001 12:57 PM

But you know what Crouch reminds me a lot of Berringer. Intelligent, Smart, Extremely fast and tough and I hear he's throwing very well again since he had his shoulder operated on this past offseason. Last year his shoulder was fucked up and he was playing hurt. So he couldn't throw worth a damn. This year the Huskers are expecting big things out of him. And he's way up there on the Heisman watch.

NaptownChief 08-19-2001 01:04 PM

I like Crouch...On a sidenote, I like his Mom also...she's hot...

I saw yesterday that Kiper is already Scott Frost'in him and projecting him as the 5th best safety in next years draft..

alanm 08-19-2001 01:07 PM

No way!! You need to keep the ball in his hands. He's way too dangerous. He weighs around 205 now I suppose he could put on 10-15 lbs and be a RB somewhere. He's that good at running the ball.

alanm 08-19-2001 01:09 PM

And I agree his Mom's damn hot!! I would imagine she's going to be on the tube quite a bit this fall. :D

NaptownChief 08-19-2001 01:10 PM

He could easily turn out to be a stronger armed Gannon...When Gannon came out of Deleware he was projected virtually everywhere except QB...

NaptownChief 08-19-2001 01:12 PM

I would like to put her on something else besides the tube....:D

alanm 08-19-2001 01:13 PM

jl80, Great minds think alike LMAO :D

WilliamTheIrish 08-19-2001 03:28 PM

I said I wouldn't do it... but ONE more time

Bishop was overrated in college and is still overhyped by K-state homers

In the famous words of the Virgin mary... Come again????

Overhyped??
Bishop lost 3 games in his entire college career. He led K-State to their first win over Neb. in 30 years (what facemask??). He beat every team in the Big 12. Was the total yardage leader for the Big 12 in 98. Bishop- and his team - hammered the more more hyped Donovan McNabb led Syracuse Orangemen in the Fiesta Bowl.
He was at the helm when K-State collapsed in the title game. Yes he was at the helm when we they lost a 3 point game to Drew Brees' Purdue Boilermakers in the Alamo Bowl. (talk about over hyped. Just be certain all you Drew Brees homers won't forget it when he gets put behind that San Diego offfensive line. I'll be certain of that.)
Now I personally don't care if we pick him up or not. But it's obvious that he was never going to play in NE. And hey if they want Tom Brady then more power to 'em. Apparently everyone now thinks every Michigan QB is the next Brian Greise when in all probability he's the next Elvis Grbac.

htismaqe 08-19-2001 04:03 PM

And somewhere in between lies the truth about Michael Bishop...

KCWolfman 08-19-2001 04:17 PM

William - Actually, I think that locally he is probably overhyped - as all local heros tend to be.

From what I remember, his last year at KState was with at least three games below a 40% completion rate, only 3 completions of 8 attempts in the NFL (one for an INT) and a less than 80.0 rating in the NFL Europe. He is basically Steve McNair revisited, he will never be stellar and will have to work very hard merely to be average.

If Jarious Jackson and Jonathan Quinn play better than you, you are not starter material in the NFL.

htismaqe 08-19-2001 04:23 PM

Good assessment Wolfman...

aturnis 08-19-2001 04:39 PM

I for one don't think he was overrated, and would not be against signing him on to take bristers spot, if he flops.......we still have Helming for a project.

LapDog 08-19-2001 07:13 PM

It seemed to me that Collins was doing okay for a while, but after he got creamed two times in a row, he immediately threw an interception. Maybe he's pretty good, but gets too distracted when he's worried about getting hit.

Also, he seemed to be getting pressured a lot. Was that because our OL wasn't protecting him or because he was holding the ball too long?

BTW, I wasn't too happy with the Offensive Line last night. They didn't seem to open any lanes for the runners and they only barely protected the quarterbacks.

philfree 08-20-2001 01:02 AM

The knock on Collins is that he's inconsistent. Seems to be holding true so far this preseason. Maybe with he and Bubby we could have Back Up QB by Committee. That's BUQBbc!

What's this, chiefs fans doubting their backup Qb more than their starter? Collins had no zip on his passes tonight and was not confident at all. Seems like old times in Buffalo.
