Frank's Red Hot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce

This stuff is amazing. All my life I've just used Tobasco out of habit. But Frank's has a much more flavor. I can't get enough of it.

Are there any other hot sauces that people recommend? RJ?

Yeah, go to BW3 and eat 15 Blazin wings.

noa 06-14-2008 07:21 PM

I love Franks. I put it on almost anything. Makes for good wings, too.

Another favorite is Sriracha chili sauce. Goes well particularly in broths if you want a hot soup.

KcMizzou 06-14-2008 07:21 PM

I love that stuff. Goes great on chicken, pizza, you name it.

Popcorn.

bkkcoh 06-14-2008 07:30 PM

Chipotle Tobasco, great flavor and good heat.

RJ 06-14-2008 07:52 PM

Frank's is my favorite for wings by far. El Yucateco makes a great habanero sauce among other things if you want to really fire something up, a little goes a long way. There's a brand called Uncle Dougie's that I like real well, their mustard habanero kicks ass.

For my tastes, Tabasco is the best for Bloody Mary's. I also like their chipotle tabasco and garlic tabasco....the garlic is excellent as a marinade for grilled chicken. I like Frank's and Red Devil for wings. My experience is that the sauces that make claims to be super hot are just that - hot but not flavorful. I opened a new bottle tonight called Iguana. It's a habanero sauce but the heat is tolerable, I liked it added to some barbecue sauce.

So many hot sauces, so little time.

I like the sriracha with grilled fish and Asian foods. Too hot for my wife and daughter so I add it after cooking.

Phobia 06-14-2008 07:55 PM

The mainstream hot sauce I always reach for is Chalula. But Franks is a very good product for something so readily available.

I also have some stuff called "Rectum Fire" that actually has some flavor.

That's an appetizing name.

stlchiefs 06-14-2008 08:10 PM

Sriracha is awesome stuff. I eat it on or dip everything in it: pizza, turkey sandwiches, chicken, etc.

patteeu 06-14-2008 08:14 PM

I can't say that I've tried a lot of different hot sauces, but of the handful of brands that I've tried, Frank's is my favorite. I use it on a lot of things. I like to microwave a little cheddar cheese on a trisket and top it with Frank's for snack.

ChiefsFan4Life 06-14-2008 08:15 PM

This is BY FAR the best hot sauce I've ever had and I am very picky about my hot sauce. If you've never had it, you absolutely HAVE to try it, you will not be disappointed, I promise:

I call that "Rooster" sauce. I have no idea why it's called that.

Might have something to do with the large rooster on the label?

WOW! There is more than 1 flavor!

I have never seen this before, but just found online that there is more than 1 flavor of Sriracha sauce. Check out the top of the bottles for the different kinds.

noa 06-14-2008 08:43 PM

I really love the extra garlic sriracha. I haven't tried any of those other ones.

ChiefsFan4Life 06-14-2008 08:52 PM

Holy cow, I didn't know there were other flavors - I am going to be all over the ginger one the next time I get a bottle

Why do they have a flying duck instead of a rooster?

Pitt Gorilla 06-14-2008 08:54 PM

Frank's is my favorite, although the Chipotle Tobasco is good as well.

Different company. From reading wikipedia Sriracha is the kind of sauce, but has been copyrighted by a particular company in the US for use as the name of their particular sriracha sauce. One company must prefer roosters while another likes ducks.

Yeah, I saw that reading around. Another company likes sharks.

stlchiefs ... you'll have to let me know if you ever see the other flavors anywhere and post it here, because I want to find that ginger one

I bet Global Foods Market in Kirkwood has it but I'll have to look closer next time I go. Where do you buy yours?

StcChief 06-15-2008 06:31 AM

Chrystal's and Louisana are ok. I like all the above and will look for Rooster

They actually carry it at Schnucks. I haven't seen any of the other flavors, but I'll be sure to take a good look next time. Global Foods is a good thought as well. Let me know if you find it as well.

I stay fairly standard regarding hot sauce. Durkee or Texas Pete are both perfect for what I'm looking for out of a hot-sauce.

I used to like louisiana, but now, I prefer Frank's to the point that I won't buy anything else. I can eat the stuff on saltines.

stlchiefs 06-15-2008 08:21 PM

Louisiana is crap. At a minimum I keep on hand: Frank's, Tabasco and Sriracha. Each is a bit different and good on different occasions.

stlchiefs 06-15-2008 10:11 PM

This guy must've put some Sriracha on his brown eye. He's one angry man.

Swazey 07-26-2009 03:58 AM

Frank can step aside because I LOVE Sriracha, and I want the whole world to know!!!

My homeboy hipped me to it and now the majority of my diet is made up of this hot chili sauce. I've killed a fifth of the bottle in a week.

Stop sleepin'.

Hell ya! I used to get that stuff from the Sushi bar at Brady Commons on Mu campus, but I never could remember what it was called.

BigMeatballDave 07-26-2009 08:40 AM

Yeah, Frank's is better than Tobasco.

cdcox 07-26-2009 09:19 AM

Thanks to this thread, I added Sriracha to my repertoire about a year ago. I'm kind of traditional in that I use the Sriracha in anything oriental and go for the Franks for things that are more southwestern. Sriracha is great with cabbage.

philfree 07-26-2009 09:23 AM

Never cared for Franks. Louisiana Hot Sauce is probably my favorite but it really depends on what I'm eating. I like Tobasco, Arizona Gunslinger, Crystal and the Sriracha is great with Sushi. Dave's Insanity Sauce is a novelty so don't eat it. And of course in Springfield there's nothing like Mexican Villa hot sauce and chips.

So there you have it.. My $.02 worth on hot sauce.

I am a big hot sauce fan. At any given time, I have over a dozen different bottles in the fridge. There are certain must-haves that haven't been mentioned.

El Yucateco's Salsa Kutbil-ik de Chile Habanero
Melinda's XXXXtra Reserve
Melinda's Amarillo Mustard
Boulder Hot Sauce's Smokey Serrano
Boulder Hot Sauce's Harry's Habanero
Bufalo's Chipotle
Trappey's Peppers in Vinegar
Pico Pica's Picante Sauce

These are all unique and amazing.

Franks is hands down the best hot sauce for wings, IMO.

Frazod 07-26-2009 12:24 PM

I use Sriracha on oriental food, usually Tabasco on everything else.

franks has a new buffalo sauce that I haven't tried, but i grilled some full wings with butter and franks hot sauce it was really good.

I lived in Buffalo for a number of years. Frank's is the one almost all the bars and wing joints use on their wings. I go back and forth between Franks and Crystal. I probably lean toward Crystal.
Man I want some wings now.

The only practical use I can think of for Dave's is putting two or three (literally) drops in a pot of homemade chili. Did that once and it's palatable though one pays for it later. Otherwise, indulge at your own risk.

On the other hand, that Sriracha garlic is great for everyday use. Flavorful w/o being overwhelming. Thee best hot sauce ever, IMO.
