MMA: The Ultimate Fighter Finale Discussion Thread

Sorry, another MMA thread. :D

Gotta root for Amir. The guy had an 0-0 record coming in... he's been amazing. Classy, too.

I also would mind seeing Diego Sanchez lose. He's always annoyed me.

One of the prelims is Matt Brown vs. Matt Arroyo. I hope we get to see it. Sounds like a great matchup.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 06:39 PM

Re-watching the final episode... I feel bad for Jesse Taylor. At least Dana told him, "Go home and get your ****in' life together, and call me in a few months."

I'm sure we'll see him back. The dude got a hell of a harsh lesson. Hopefully he'll take it to heart.

What happened?

He got drunked up after the show wrapped... kicked out the window of a limo he was riding in... then caused a disturbance in a Station Casino. (Owned by the Fertitas, who own ZUFFA and the UFC)

According to Dana, he was "terrorizing the guests", and Dana had it all on security tapes. When security approached him, he pulled the old, "Do you know who I am??? I'm a UFC fighter!" bit. Dana kicked him out of the finale, and the UFC.

Apparently he and a few other fighters stayed in Vegas for a night of partying after the show wrapped. JT Money clearly can't handle his liquor.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 06:58 PM

Starting now... Spike TV... channel 38 on Time Warner in KC.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 07:11 PM

First fight... Matt Riddle vs Dante Rivera

I figure Chipper takes it. Dante's probably the more polished fighter, but Riddle's young and has some crazy power. (as seen when he broke that poor guy's jaw)

SPchief 06-21-2008 07:29 PM

I've got Riddle winning the first two rounds

UteChief 06-21-2008 07:34 PM

I'm delayed because it's recording. Riddle looks big.

He does. He looks like he added about 30 lb's of muscle.

I'll avoid posting any spoilers, since some of you guys are delayed.

UteChief 06-21-2008 07:36 PM

I'm sure I'll catch up in a little bit. I'm skipping the commercials.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 07:40 PM

**SPOILER**

I'm glad Riddle didn't bust Dante's balls about the retirement thing. He's probably not in the mood to hear it.

UteChief 06-21-2008 07:45 PM

Riddle looks good. Glad to see him come away with a win.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 07:47 PM

Spencer Fisher vs. Jeremy Stephens up next.

Two Iowa guys.

Don't really have a rooting interest in this one, although I'm much more familiar with Fisher.

Rooting for a good fight, I guess.

What weight class is this?

155, lightweight I think.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 08:07 PM

Damn... close at the end. I think Fisher still wins by decision.

UteChief 06-21-2008 08:13 PM

I was surprised that they went to the ground so much. The last fight I watched with Fisher they stood up almost the whole time.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 08:16 PM

I'm annoyed by the decisions... I want time to see that Brown vs. Arroyo fight.

UteChief 06-21-2008 08:17 PM

Do you know how many fights are on the card? Will they show all of them?

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 08:20 PM

Three more on the main card... they'll show all of them, even if the show runs long.

They'll fit the best prelim fights in if time permits.

Looks like Diego Sanchez vs. Luigi Fioravanti next...

Gotta root against Diego... that guy bugs me. Gotta root for the marine.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 08:22 PM

Forrest and Rampage both kick ass. I'm having a hard time deciding who to root for...

UteChief 06-21-2008 08:23 PM

I'd like to see Forrest. I like to see the champ get knocked off.

Yeah... and honestly, Forrest has gotta be the underdog.

Makes it a little easier. Still, I really like both guys.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 08:29 PM

GO Amir!

It seems a little unfair that he has to fight a guy he just beat, to win it all.

You'd never hear him complain, though.

CB's a tough dude... but I hope Amir kicks his ass.

UteChief 06-21-2008 08:33 PM

Yeah, Amir is great. CB is a little to cocky.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 08:37 PM

Wow... nice first round.

Probably Diego's.

Agreed. And CB was already established. Amir came out of nowhere.

SPchief 06-21-2008 08:39 PM

Luigi's in trouble

SPchief 06-21-2008 08:40 PM

Nice job getting out

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 08:43 PM

This is a hell of a fight. Even better if Luigi pulls it out.

SPchief 06-21-2008 08:49 PM

Great fight

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 08:49 PM

Damn....lol

I've made it pretty clear that I'm not a fan of Diego, but that was pretty damned impressive.

UteChief 06-21-2008 08:49 PM

Damn good fight. More like these please no more decisions.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 08:59 PM

Let's go Amir.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!! /Rob Schneider style

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 09:00 PM

Win or lose... Amir's earned a UFC contract, IMO.

I figure we'll see both guys in the UFC in the future.

UteChief 06-21-2008 09:06 PM

How many people usually make it from the show?

UteChief 06-21-2008 09:07 PM

Amir is such a smart ass.

A few.. there's no real rule to it. Whoever impresses Dana the most.

Loving CB's walk-in song.

Till I collapse.... awesome

I still hope Amir kicks his ass...lol

BigVE 06-21-2008 09:09 PM

I think CB is going to KO Amir this time...although I AM rooting for Amir. IF Amir wins it will be like last time with a sneaky submission. IMO.

Agreed.

CB's better on paper... Amir's tough and crafty.

SPchief 06-21-2008 09:12 PM

Since when is Amir 1-0?

crazycoffey 06-21-2008 09:13 PM

I fell asleep watching the first matches, just tired I guess - not because it was boring....

Is the final not started yet?

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 09:16 PM

YEEEAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UteChief 06-21-2008 09:16 PM

Oh, that was bad ass. He clearly tapped.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 09:16 PM

**** you CB... you tapped.

SPchief 06-21-2008 09:17 PM

LMAO

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 09:17 PM

AMIR FTW!!!!!

Holy shit..... The laid back dude with an 0-0 record wins it all....

Fan-****in-tastic!

UteChief 06-21-2008 09:18 PM

What is FTW? For the win?

Yes sir.

That was awesome. I'm surprised. I didn't think he'd win.

Of course... I've been surprised every time I've seen him fight.

UteChief 06-21-2008 09:21 PM

No kidding. Very sneaky Sir.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 09:22 PM

Kick ass... couldn't happen to a better guy.

keg in kc 06-21-2008 09:22 PM

I don't think either of them are long for UFC. This has got to be the weakest crop of fighters so far.

UteChief 06-21-2008 09:22 PM

Such a smart ass. I look forward to seeing him fight some more.

Don't piss on my parade, Logical. :p

I think both guys have a chance to be good.

UteChief 06-21-2008 09:26 PM

I still think Chipper may hang around for a while. I understand he didn't win the whole thing but it's just a hunch.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 09:27 PM

Amir and Forrest are twin brothers from different mothers.

Amir just needs some confidence. Maybe this'll help him.

Yeah... he's improved a lot since the show.

I wanna hear what CB has to say after this... I'll miss his Billy Idol lip.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 09:35 PM

Evan Tanner vs Kendall Grove

I'm rooting for Tanner here.

stlchiefs 06-21-2008 09:46 PM

Fock old man winter. Go Grove.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 09:52 PM

Tanner looks like a Kimbo who can actually fight.

KcMizzou 06-21-2008 09:56 PM

Meh.. that was a bit of a let down.

I'm alright though... That Amir win made the night for me. :D

Bwana 06-21-2008 09:57 PM

Wow, Grove used Tanner as a punching bag most of the fight. Tanner needs to retire again.

keg in kc 06-21-2008 09:59 PM

How the fuck was that a split decision. Grove just destroyed him.

Bwana 06-21-2008 09:59 PM

If either of them are ever going to be any good, it's years and years down the road.

TUF may have run its course; they're really scraping the bottom of the barrel now. I mean, seriously, a guy with *zero* professional fights wins the whole thing? It's a great story, in pro wrestling terms, but realistically speaking, he wouldn't have been on the show in the past, much less have had a chance in hell of winning it. Experienced, halfway-trained fighters would absolutely murder anybody on this year's show.

There were actually fighters that were trained and had some experience on this years show, so your theory is not correct.

Just like the last time, he tapped too early. Only this time, he knew it and tried to stop. Dude has no composure at all. He is scared. That was crazy.

once again, I am not saying that he could not have had his arm broken, but once again he was on his feet! Seriously, he was freaking standing up. He could have used gravity and downforce to disrupt the submission. Instead, he paniced.

In the post fight interviews, he admitted that he tapped. he was just upset with himself.

There were a few with limited experience, but I don't really know that any of them that had any kind of legitimate MMA training. At the end of it all, I think Riddle is the only one with a legitimate future.

That is yet to be seen. To me, most of this years guys were pretty green and with some good solid training guys like Amir, CB, JT (nothing but a wrestling brute right now...aka Matt Hamil) and maybe even Matt Brown could be pretty good. Maybe not CHAMPS but who knows, they could probably make a decent living at it. I think the sky is the limit for Amir and CB but it will just depend on how dedicated they are. Look at Kendall Grove last night...THAT was not the same KG that was on TUF a few years ago. He looked sharp but it took some time for him to get to that point.

It's not a thoery, it's an opinion. And that opinion is that they may have run out of suitable up-and-coming talent after 6 (and now 7...) seasons of the show, so they're having to scrape the bottom of the barrel now. They did the best they could beefing the fighters up with post-production magic, but I think the series might have run its course. It was fun while it lasted, and maybe if they keep screwing around with the format the way they did early this season, they can keep it going a little longer.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I hope they find a hidden trove of future contenders under a rock somewhere, because I enjoy watching.
