Good sites?

I've been looking around Fantasy Football Today. Any other good sites for researching players/rankings/stats? Getting my list together for my draft in two weeks. I'm hanging on to two RB's (Barber and Westbrook). So I'll be drafting 3 QB's, 2 RB's, 5 WR's, 2 TE's, 2 K's, and 2 DST's.

Umm.. Depending on how many starters you have, I am guessing

QB
RB
RB
WR
WR
TE
K
DEF

I would go with 2QB's, 4-5RB's, 6-7WR, 1K and 1DEF... Generally you want to grab extra RB's and WR's and then trade them if you need something else or want an upgrade later.. RB's are worth more this year then ever, because of the pushout rule..

Valiant 08-09-2008 08:47 PM

Ohh, just buy a couple fantasy mags for values..

Mecca 08-09-2008 09:04 PM

The best tips I can give you is, try to get RB's from good offenses that get in the endzone alot...

With QB's and WR's think of teams that have bad defenses and need to score alot, or teams that will be losing alot, these teams will be throwing alot more to either with the other team or playing catch up.

What I listed is what I have to draft. I would have said 4 RB's, but I'll already have two. If you're saying what I'll play each week, it's 3 WR's, not 2.

You need to know what you're starting positions are, the only position you should ever overdraft is RB.

The positions and number of each is what everyone drafts....

I'm not asking how many. I'm asking about good sites for research.

I want to know how many starters you have though, obviously those numbers include backups you'll only be playing in by weeks, matchup scenarios or if injury occurs.

What the starting positions are should heavily affect how you draft.

Valiant has it right, except for the WR's.

1 QB
2 RB
3 WR
1 TE
1 K
1 DST

I inherited a team, of which I get to keep two players. Of the 4 RB's I would have to draft, I've already got 2.

Mecca 08-09-2008 09:20 PM

Don't take a kicker till one of the very last rounds.....and try to get one thats on a team like NE, Dallas or New Orleans.

Finding a site to research is hit or miss because it's basically going to be someones opinion, that's about half of fantasy football pegging who your breakout players are and hoping they pan out.

I won several leagues several years back because in back to back years I pegged Javon Walker and Chad Johnsons breakout years.

Keep your 2 RB's, try to get another one with one of your first 3 picks, look for a top notch QB and WR in there also.

ChiefsCountry 08-09-2008 09:24 PM

Make sure you look at the bye weeks for teams. Several of the big name players all have the same bye weeks this year.

luv 08-09-2008 09:25 PM

I know how to draft. I'm looking for...oh, never mind.

Mecca 08-09-2008 09:27 PM

You're not going to find a site that says "take these guys" the site you draft on will have them ranked in a "fantasy production order"

Most of fantasy football is using your knowledge to beat the other people, drafting the breakout guy they missed or the guy they don't know about.

I need to learn more about players in order to know how I'd rank them. I'm not going to copy someone else's list. Hell, I'll just go to yahoo sports and read up on each player.

Are you willing to spend a few $$?

http://www.fantasyguru.com/

If not, another good one.

http://www.fantasyfootballcafe.com/

Plenty of good sites out there.

Mecca 08-09-2008 09:30 PM

Look at teams depth charts and who's performing well in preseason, everyone will know all about the RB's the best positions to find a sleeper at is you're 3rd or 4th WR or a TE.

Thank you. I know I could just Google fantasy football and see what I get. I just didn't want to waste my time on sites that weren't very credible.

Guys, she wants cheatsheets.....nothing wrong with that. (Mecca, she didn't need a clinic on the subject, sheesh.)

My faves....

http://www.footballdiehards.com/

That one is cool 'cause you can load your league's scoring settings and it will put players in the appropriate order.

http://www.kffl.com/

This one is pretty good, it tiers the players so if you can't decide which player to draft, take the higher tiered one.

Oh, and you're gonna want to draft kickers early and often. Don't get rattled if everone else starts grabbing RB's first, you can pick them up in later rounds.;)

Thanks. I'm thinking about my kicker in the fourth round. QB, WR, TE, K.
I already know that the QB I'm dropping won't be available when I get to pick. We can see each others' teams and know pretty much who everyone's going to keep. Out of Barber, Westbrook, and Palmer, the one I don't keep will be gone in the second pick. I've already been told...lol.

rad 08-10-2008 03:51 PM

I was being facetious about the kicker thing..... I won't even draft a kicker in my live league, I wait until week 1 and pick one off waivers after depth charts are shaken out. I actually didn't even draft a defense last year, I just picked up a different one each week based on matchups. I won that league, too.

luv 08-10-2008 03:54 PM

Picked up a couple of good magazines today. Getting pretty pumped.

My favorite color is blue. That's why I'm a Chiefs fan.

I would also highly recommend www.pigskinsanity.com for week to week questions. It is run at least in part by Mile High Mania and has several very knowledgeable players who are more than willing to answer questions when you have them.

Bearcat 08-10-2008 04:39 PM

Last year I did all the work myself, and got first place in my league. I copied/pasted stats of the best 20 at each position into Excel, and did the FF scoring calculations based on the previous season. It didn't take all that long, and since I hadn't played in a few years, it gave me a good idea of how to draft. I came up with a pretty good draft board, and was able to see the point differences between positions.

But, a few good/lucky decisions, like Ryan Grant, helped.... oh, and Peyton Manning throwing to Randy Moss. :)

I'm sorry but spending money on magazines is a waste, first off their deadline was 2 months ago so those rankings etc. are well behind current news(i.e. I'll bet you most if not all still have Favre retired) and secondly they're written by football fans just like us so when it comes down to it it's nothing more than a matter of opinion.

Hope I didn't piss on your parade and good luck but if you want to be the best at FF just remember it's alot of luck and alot of going with your gut and not some geek writing an article.

And fantasy football sites are made by whom? The same geeks who write the articles, but also know how to host a website. No pissing on my parade. One could have someone ranked 3rd, wile another has that same player ranked 9th. I know it's a matter of opinion, but they're just guides. I'm making my own lists.

And yes, they are outdated.

One good thing is that it lists what the bye weeks are next to the players. I won't have a laptop with me when I draft, so that's less writing I'll have to do.

Oh I know who the sites are by that's why I'm saying why waste money on a magazine, and as for those bye weeks I noticed earlier you were checking out FFToday,so why not just go to their list of bye weeks and print it?

Because I'm dumb enough to buy magazines I don't need.
