Save the Planet! Eat a kangaroo!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7551125.stm
Eat kangaroo to 'save the planet' Kangaroos could be good for the environment Switching from beef to kangaroo burgers could significantly help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, says an Australian scientist. The methane gas produced by sheep and cows through belching and flatulence is more potent than carbon dioxide in the damage it can cause to the environment. But kangaroos produce virtually no methane because their digestive systems are different. Dr George Wilson, of the Australian Wildlife Services, urges farming them. He says they have a different set of micro-organisms in their guts to cows and sheep. Sheep and cattle account for 11% of Australia's carbon footprint and over the years, there have been various proposals to deal with the problem. Now Dr Wilson believes kangaroos might hold the answer. He said: "It tastes excellent, not unlike venison - only a different flavour." The country already produces 30 million kangaroos farmed by landholders in the outback. But Dr Wilson is keen to see that population dramatically increased to produce the same amount of kangaroo meat as that currently produced by conventional livestock. |
The planet should stop eating red meat altogether.
Stick to chicken, fish and lean sources of protein. Use cows for dairy products. |

Red meat has great protein value. I weight train frequently, and foods like red meat help with the rebuilding process.

Beef... it's what's for dinner. |
I'm not saying I wouldn't eat a kangaroo, though... I don't know how tasty they are just yet.

Human form of mad cow. Once you get it it's 100% fatal. The gubment has no clue how much tainted meat you need to eat to get it and the incubation period is up to 30 years until it kicks in. You get it today and up to 30 years from now you start acting like an alzheimer's patient. Until 89 mad cows were killed and fed to pigs. Yeah, rich, but not smooth. So any pork or beef from 84-89 is likely tainted. And we have no idea how much it takes to infect a person. Soooooooo...As adults we can now avoid such things but who knows if it even matters. "That poor KCMizzou, got the old-timers at 58. You believe that? "Shame. Been happening a lot lately. Feel sorry for 'em." Fun stuff to think about during the morning drive to work... |

Factual statements, scarry disease. :shake: |
Hey Brad, assuming you're right... the bright side for me, is that I won't know WTF you're talking about anyway.
I'll take my steak medium rare, please. |
I got a freezer full of steaks, briskits, roast, hamburger and probably 50 lbs of sausage....I guess I will just throw it out!
Better yet I think I will continue to enjoy my beef and pork! Homegrown are the best!! |

They better not cut back on breeding sheep! Lamb is some of the best meat in the world!
As for cows...hamburgers and shredded beef are pretty good. I think that's it unless I'm forgetting--oh wait! STEAKS! Big bloody steaks cut right off a walking cow and BBQ'ed to perfection! So yeah...may not be as good as lamb, but still pretty damn good. Plus, I wouldn't say anything against beef seeing as how my second meat of choice is pork...and those damn animals smell just as bad when ya drive by 'em. |

Pisses me off the local guys are fading fast. 10 years ago I had 3 cousins farming pigs. Now they still do, but pretty much only enough for them to eat and not as a business... |

I'm sorry to say that I'm feeling pretty poor these days to. I think I might just have to keep what I have however if any of you are wanting a good butcher beef I can point you in the right direction. Of coruse you will need to come and pick it up...I'm starting to run low on pork so I will be looking for a pig to butcher in the next month or two....I butchered 2 for myself last Aug and am now running pretty low...to bad hog farmer lives so far away! |
I had a buffalo burger for the first time a few months ago. It wasn't as "gamey" as everyone describes it as ... wasn't bad, wasn't spectacular either.
|
I just can't see McDonald's loading up on kangaroo burgers anytime soon. That'd be a lot of kangaroos to kill.
|
they jump like frogs
should taste like frog legs |
Marsupials taste like chicken.

I brought you a delicious possum.

If cattle weren't meant to be eaten, then they wouldn't be made out of steak....
|
I had a Buffalo Ribeye at Ted's Montana Grill, and it was some damn tasty stuff.
