Farscape

I've been on a Sci-Fi kick lately.

I'd seen a few episodes of this show here and there, but I finally got around to watching it from the beginning. It's really very cool.

The only Sci-Fi series I really loved, was Firefly... and I saw that (too) after it was canceled. I've tried to be a fan of Star Trek : TNG, but I find it pretty dull at times.

I like the dose of humor Farscape adds. And I'm excited that I've got four full seasons to enjoy. I get the feeling that I'll miss it like I miss Firefly...

As usual, I'm way late to the party.

morphius 08-26-2008 09:17 PM

I really liked Firefly, though there was a stretch, maybe the third season that it kind of got off on some stupid/goofy tangents, but started to get good right before it died.

Farscape, right?

I wish Firefly had run for 3 or more seasons. :)

yeah, that'll teach me to watch shows on black holes while posting, lol. I almost gave up on the show at that point honestly.

I loved Farscape. I thought they could have kept going with the series...

I honestly haven't watched a single episode of Firefly. I've been told I should remedy that....

Dude, please do.

Download it, buy it, I don't care... just see it. It's really good.

Actually... you can watch the whole series on Hulu for free... (and legal)

I was never that big into sci-fi tv series but this one was GREAT!!
Always been a fan of western series/movies (thanks dad) and this show mixes the two (western/scifi) PERFECTLY.

I've got to agree. I only recently watched "Firefly", and thought it was just brilliant.

I may have to give "Farscape" another try.

Claudia Black. Nuff said.

Mr. Laz 08-27-2008 04:58 PM

Farscape was a good one

SciFi channel has done a good job of providing television options

Babylon 5 is also amazing.. Season 1 is very slow.. The show does not become amazing until 2-4.. Wish they or somebody would redo the graphics(cgi) because it got dated quickly...

Yeah.. I wish they would have let them have a couple more seasons on SG-1 also..

unlurking 08-27-2008 11:05 PM

Farscape was my favorite sci-fi series. Claudia Black (dayum!) rocked, and Ben Browder was pretty ****ing cool. The whole series was written out for five season (just like B5, my second favorite series), so in reality, we only really lost a half a season when you throw in the PK Wars. Granted I would have preferred a full 5th season plus the PK Wars even if it requires some completely irrelevant episodes.

Go 1812!!!!!!!!!!

Humorous blooper reel. Kinda interesting to hear the on set voice actors, as opposed to the final production voice overs for the animatronix characters.

Farscape really kicks in the further into the series you get. It was a great show.

But make sure you watch it all from the beginning, because there are arcs running over the entire series...

Miles 08-29-2008 02:16 AM

I enjoyed the hell out of Farscape when it was on. Some say it started of a little shaky at times but I mostly liked the early episodes and it defiantly picks up later when the long story arcs start paying off. I usually only watch TV series once but I think I may give this one a second time through at some point.

I have been considering watching this one but my memory of what I saw of the first season was that it was slow and the acting was pretty rough. I can live some levels of mediocre acting since it tends to be somewhat common in the genre, but does it at least improve after the 1st season?

Yeah, season one is basically the prologue. Very slow introduction. Season two absolutely kicks the series into gear. In all honesty, you almost torture yourself through season one, in order truly appreciate the rest of the series.

I must admit I am pretty disappointed the Ranger spinoff series never amounted to anything beyond the pilot movie.

EDIT:
Oh, there is a movie "summary" of episode 1 (can't remember which one though, there are several B5 movies). I would NOT recommend using it as a substitute for season one. While it will get you to the good stuff faster (letting you skip season one), there is still a lot of stuff you will miss, and in season four you'll be shaking your head going WTF?!

Sounds like a hell of a girl.

This show (Farscape) is really great. I'm only on the 8th episode of season one, but I'm surprised it wasn't more of a main stream hit.

They were really creative when it came to the alien races. It's nice that not every alien is just a human with an oddly shaped forehead.

Even when I find an episode a little dull half way through... there's a plot twist or something that makes me end up loving it. (The dose of humor is great too. Some of the quips from Chrichton literally have me laughing out loud.)

From the behind the scenes vids and outtakes I've seen... it seems like the cast has a blast doing it, too. Seems like they really loved the show... more than just a paycheck.

And yeah, Claudia Black is smokin'.

KcMizzou 08-30-2008 05:47 PM

Every time Rigel yammers on abut being "Dominar over 6 billion subjects!" or whatever, I imagine a massive swarm of tadpoles.

Pretty much accurate.. IMO seasons 2-4 are the best sci-fi written shows ever made to date.. The acting by the lead characters and storyline is awesome..

That would leave Eureka as the only show I watch on there very soon, since Battlestar is going to be in its last season as well. Of course I guess they are working on Caprica so I guess that will be ready to go when they are done with stargate.

Of course there will be some terribly unwatchable B movies on the station to remind us how much they suck.

They're cycling in new shows like Sanctuary, and they start airing Lost from the beginning in a couple weeks, so it's not all bad. Just mostly bad.

Yeah, it is pretty enjoyable. I just remember back when Friday night was scifi night with farscape and the invisible man (the other show might have been sg1, but I can't remember now). I just can't get into Dr Who.

I briefly saw the commercial for Sanctuary. Wasn't really paying attention, but heard "Samantha Carter". Will have to check that one out.

Eureka is a "fun" show. I enjoy it, but I wonder if Stark will be coming back later in the season. After all,he "imprinted" a small piece of himself on the diamond. Who knows what that means "in a town like Eureka".

Definitely time for some new shows. I mean, they've got plenty of time slots to fill if they'd get rid of that crappy wrestling. That still pisses me off.

Point of parliamentary procedure, your honor. Amanda Tapping has a smokin' body. She just never got to show it off with the BDU's she wore on Stargate.

Amanda Tapping played a major role in developing Sanctuary. Initialy, SciFi wasn't very interested so Amanda and.......can't remember the other persons name, put the entire thing together with out any help from the major studios. They marketed is as a web series with around 6 episodes. It was the first "series" ever published on the internet exclusively.

I guess SciFi took notice and decided to give it a shot. The webisodes were pretty good, not long enough but good none the less. I'm really looking foward to the television premier.

I tried to watch Farscape on Netflix and I couldn't get through season one. It's episode after episode of some mind controlling agent or weird alien voodoo where half of the characters aren't acting like themselves and are doing crazy shit. So much so, that they don't even set a precedent of who the characters actually are to begin with.

It's ****ing stupid.

It could be timing, too. Back in the late 90's early 00's there wasn't anything like this out. The last 10 years of TV have changed A LOT.

This.

Purely from a budgetary aspect, I don't know if BSG even gets made without Farscape. This show WAS SciFi's original programming. Without Farscape, it would have been the Wrestling and Reruns Channel.

True. I think that's about the same time they picked up the last couple seasons of Sliders, never got into it though. That was a few years after Farscape's first season though I think. The only other thing they had original at the time was First Wave. I think I only watched that for Traci Lords :)

Didn't they come out with the invisible man around that time, that was pretty good as well. I remember when Friday night was scifi night. I think it is part of the reason that Firefly didn't do as well, some idiot put it up against the locked in stargate lineup.

Didn't they come out with the invisible man around that time, that was pretty good as well. I remember when Friday night was scifi night. I think it is part of the reason that Firefly didn't do as well, some idiot put it up against the locked in stargate lineup.

Oh yeah, that Friday night lineup in the early 00's was fantastic.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I made it through the first season of that. I'm not sure what drugs those writers were on, but that show alone should keep them illegal.

I thought it was better than Babylon 5 in every conceivable way aside from length of series. And talk about a show that hasn't held up well. B5 looked awesome at the time, but my kindle probably has more power than the computers that animated that show 20 years ago. It's really hard to watch now, after all the advances in CG. Farscape has the advantage there in that it used so many more practical effects.

It's been probably 4 years now, but I did somewhat recently watch Farscape beginning to end and I enjoyed it every bit as much as I did the first time. While there are some episodes that make me cringe with their bizarre silliness they really did some fantastic things on that series.

Lexx was fantastic, but that was Showtime I believe. Just a rerun, edited for content program for SciFi.

Taking the Stone was worse.

That's like comparing Kendrick Lewis's deep coverage to Eric Hick's bootleg contain.

Yeah. Babylon 5 almost needs to go through a re-imagined facelift series similar to the Battlestar Galactica treatment. I know the series prided itself on its fantastic storyline, and it WAS around for a significant period of time. It's not like the new series can just base itself on that universe in characters, setting, and basic plot and then go from there like was done with BSG. But... damn. A lot of these old sci fi shows can still attract themselves to new fans who have never seen them before, but when you look and act like Babylon 5, it's a pretty hard hurdle to climb.

The time may come in about 15-20 years when the show is down to just the core base that adored it when it was on the air before they can re-launch it. Because that could be really good if they did that.

There's actually been talking that there's been some discussion about updating B5 the way they've been with TNG.

Personally, I'd rather have Deep Space Nine on Blu-ray, but I'd be good either way.
