It reversed itself from turning into MySpace by not letting people get stupid control and put a lot of idiotic shit all over the place. It is more focused and easier to use.

Facebook redesign is a huge improvement.

Eh... instead of scrolling down half the page to see the wall, I just click on 'posts by others'. I'd prefer a couple of boxes on the front page instead of in the 'boxes', but besides that.... :shrug:

That's what I was going to say.... everyone said it turned into myspace when they allowed 3rd party apps. Now they're reversing the trend of having 900 things on one page.


Eh.... everyone bitched about the news feed until half of them realized they could change the settings and the other half realized it wasn't so bad. Change sucks, apparently.

The layout is quite similar to Myspace. Information on left side, display picture in top left corner.

My biggest beef with the new design is the wall/newsfeed together. And users are unable to seperate them themselves.

Facebook should have had two or three layout designs and let people choose.

The alternative is having to see everyone's race car game apps, and flair, and buttons, and trivia, and best drinks for friends yada yada...

I don't use MySpace anymore (never really did), but there's an article about MySpace Music saving the music industry... at least sounds like they're doing what they can to not go down with the likes of AOL and Yahoo.

Being on the road 100%, I like facebook. I've tried to get into LinkedIn because I really like the concept, but it's more of a once-a-month thing.

I used Myspace for a long time, and the music aspect of it is pretty good, but it just gets to the point where there is no point. It gets boing, and I can't imagine any of the other "social networking" sites provide anything different. Perhaps Chiefs Planet has taken over my life :( Aggghhh!!!!!

The design has flaws but it's WAY better.

Can someone enumerate the ways in which the new design is better? I grant you the "boxes" page; it's nice to not be inundated with applications.

But that's the only positive that I'm getting from the new layout. Someone, tell me what I'm missing.

I have this feeling that no one is going to bother and click on the "info" button when viewing someone's profile much. Before, you had to scroll past the info to get to someone's wall; since that info was already on the page, you were more inclined to read it. What good is having a profile if people have to go on a scavenger hunt to get a sense of who you are?

Yeah, and I'm not one to invite everyone I've ever known or met or just walked past on the way to class one day to every social network site I'm a part of, so I'm not addicted by any means... but it's a good way to keep up with people and a good way to share pictures and stuff.

I've got to hire a detective firm to find shit with this new layout. I literally have to hire Dick Tracy in order to play Scrabble.

Cut down on page views.
More application style layout.
Faster (ajax)
Less clutter.
Info all on one page instant within a click or two.
Feed+wall = great stream of info.

I don't see the benefit of a more application style layout. It takes me more time to do the same things.
I've noticed no change in page speed.

Old Facebook = all info on one page without clicking at all.
Some people may like the feed+wall combo, that's fine. For me, I dislike it.

Sites redesign. Period. It's for the better.

I think it's more efficient overall... instead of the newsfeed telling you that someone wrote on your wall, and a mini-feed saying the same thing, and then going to read the actual thing on your wall, it's more efficient to have the post near the top of the page to begin with. It's easy to filter between stuff you do and stuff other people do, again, instead of having it in two different places.

The front page has basic info, and with the previous layout, some people have a ton of crap in their info that you don't need to see everyday (I have several quotes that take up a lot of space).

You can also move boxes between the Wall and Boxes with the thing in the top right (most of them, anyway), so you can still show what you want on the first page. There's also an App bar at the bottom.

See, that first sentence evokes a reaction from me that goes something like "**** you."
I mean, I really respect you as a poster, and we see eye-to-eye often over in D.C.; I've never, until this thread anyway, gotten the impression that you think I'm a brainless moron. But you do, apparently, since you're lumping me in with this group of generic people who are resistant to any sort of change. It just seems a little harsh for something so insignificant as Facebook preferences. I would have thought that my track record here wouldn't lead to condescension like I'm some troll whose input no one values.

I must have the wrong apps, then, because I can only move maybe 1/4 of my apps to my front page. I suspect that the designers of existing apps will improve functionality with the new layout in the coming weeks. I hope, anyway.

I think you're right... the apps that I can't move to the wall wouldn't fit in the left column anyway (or would look like crap), so I think it's just a design issue.

Well you're certainly setting me up to be a sort of poster child for "people that don't get that sites change." I'm not opposed to change, and I don't think that anything I've posted says otherwise. I'm just not finding a lot of the specific changed to Facebook as beneficial as the developers intended. I'm all for Facebook improving, I just not sure that it has with this new layout.

I'm already finding the new layout unintuitive, I don't need condescension on top of that.

Everybody hates it every time facebook changes. The same people who are complaining about it now will want it to stay this way instead of changing again, the next time a change rolls around.

I don't particularly care for the new layout either, but it isn't that bad. I'm sure it'l grow on us.

Actually I'm finding that this layout is actually bit more functional. There are some things you couldn't do before that you can access now.

It has flaws, to be sure. I hate their "groups" page. Holy hell it was piss poor designing and it was before the new one.

True. I'm really liking the ability to access "authorized" apps however. As opposed to just the ones you have displayed on your page... of which I have maybe... 2. I hate clutter.

You'll get there. I thought that at first, but it feels pretty normal now. I was an early adopter; figured the change would be inevitable and I may as well get it over with.

I think this kind of design (application-like) is something you'll see more consistently now.
