Until it cuts into commericial time, then it magically goes away

Paniero 09-21-2008 01:02 PM

Is it a white girl?

I have a bet on this.

chiefs4me 09-21-2008 01:03 PM

unless it's your kid missing huh??

Wile_E_Coyote 09-21-2008 01:04 PM

They were taken by their mother, I'm sure they're in danger of their lives

KC kid 09-21-2008 01:04 PM

They dont show it during commercials of course. It is a joke

Wile_E_Coyote 09-21-2008 01:07 PM

They take up 1/3 of the screen in an L shape. They could have easily ran it at the bottom of the screen

Or they could ignore it. The world is overpopulated anyway.

petegz28 09-21-2008 01:14 PM

What's funny is I was on 435 during half-time and not 1 of the Amber Alert signs said anything about the Amber Alert.

I'm fine with the alert, it's the way they're doing it. They take up 1/3 of t he screen and fill it with blank space, shrinking the screen

You mean drawing attention to it so it gets noticed?

Imagine how bad it would be if we had thunderstorms today? Amber alert AND Katie Horner.... the horror. The horror.

Ah, the dregs of internet garbage. :shake:

irishjayhawk 09-21-2008 01:51 PM

The only thing I don't get is how people watching TV are in a position to see a 92 pickup on its way to Denver or OKC.

You mean like they did all last night? I don't mind the alert. Don't mind the 1/3rd screen but why does it drop to SD? Why can't they time it for the 30 seconds after the play is down? They're seemingly running it just in time for a play to start.

triple 09-21-2008 01:55 PM

yeah they could just run that red tape at the bottom of the screen. what takes up the most space is the huge KCTV5 logo

And not during commercials, which tells you what they really think of the alert.

Only if you're misunderstanding the complaint.

Phobia 09-21-2008 02:02 PM

Post-partum depression is a lot different than a mother taking her own kids from state custody because she wants her kids back.

I was on the couch in the basement and durring the game I saw the alert and I then jumped up grabbed my keys and went looking for those kids on I 70 near my home. It was more interesting than watching the game anyway.

Children die at the hands of their parents. It happens too frequently during custody battles. The mother is non-custodial and on the run. She could kill them inadvertently while on the run. Then again, maybe she won’t hurt or kill them. The fact is that she’s taken them illegally. And there’s probably someone holding their breath during the worst day of their life, hoping and praying that the system works and the kids are returned.

The “Amber Alert” system is a good one. Anyone that complains about it because they’re not getting a full screen of football is exhibiting a pathetic and inhumane selfishness that defies anything that is right or good about ourselves. Just my humble opinion.

I don't think anybody is complaining *about* the alert. The complaints have been about the timing and chosen method for the alerts.

Phobia 09-21-2008 03:14 PM

I'm now watching my first amber alert during commercial of the day from kctv5.

I was writing an email to Aaron Barnhart aboutthat exact topic when it happened.

To be clear, I have NO issue with the amber alert, I even understand why they drop to SD (no HD overlay equipment at the local level) but why did they not show (and even discontinue in at least two cases) the alert during commericials??

Then, after the local town game (when commerial time costs the most) they actually display one during commericals??

kctv5: "we'll help, as long as it doesn't cost us money???"

Phobia 09-21-2008 03:32 PM

More amber alert during commercial.

007 09-21-2008 03:33 PM

just noticed that WDAF was doing the same.

irishjayhawk 09-21-2008 03:45 PM

At what point do they stop the amber alert on tv?

It's going on 48 hours.

Maybe you weren't but...

"Or they could ignore it. The world is overpopulated anyway."

"They were taken by their mother, I'm sure they're in danger of their lives."

If someone values a crappy football game over the well being of children, well maybe we should all pray for them and the children.

blueballs 09-21-2008 03:56 PM

the kids are 14-14-12 and 7
I don't see her hold their heads under water

somepeople will say anything to get a rise out of others. Welcome to the interweb. Is it dis-tasteful? absolutely. But don't let it get to you.

Sadly, I think sometimes they really mean what they post. But, for anyone interested in a positive note...
