What's your food phobia?

This thread was inspired by this article:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...ry/Life?page=1

What sort of foods which would be consumed by the average, well-adjusted adult can you just not stomach?

I for one can't eat cold cuts. There's something about the thought of eating cold meat that makes me nauseous. I've also met quite a few people who won't eat tomatoes, which I find extremely odd.

yes and the mgrs that don't really enforce it.... I've been in 'the john' with them at times, always wait them out ensure they wash. I've been lucky never to have had food poisoning.

Water Chestnuts... Biting into one is like scraping your nails on a chalk board. I absolutely HATE THEM!

Stewie 09-24-2008 01:03 PM

There are some messed up people in that article.

The one food I don't like is lima beans. I'll eat them, but I'll complain.

DaFace 09-24-2008 01:04 PM

I don't think I have one. There are lots of foods that I don't particularly like, but none that I would say I "hate" necessarily.

Unless we're talking about eating bugs and crap. I don't got there.

I'll eat damn near anything. There's nothing in the realm of what we would consider normal foods that I don't like. Sure, sometimes bad things happen to good food, but that's not the food's fault.

TrebMaxx 09-24-2008 01:26 PM

I would consider myself a picky eater. I have evolved as I get older and eat more foods that I would never have considered in my younger days. I don't like tomato's, but I do like tomato juice, sauces, etc. I think most of the things I don't like is more of a texture thing. Mushrooms, forget about it unless they are morels and deep fried. I can eat salads but keep wilted lettuce away from me. I would say that almost everything I won't eat are fruits and vegetables but not all fruits and vegetables. Some I do eat. Pisses my wife off to no end because she has to watch what see cooks for me because if there is something in the dish that is on my no-go list I will act like a baby and not eat it. Sad really, something I would like to overcome.

Goapics1 09-24-2008 01:26 PM

What tastes good to some people may not to others. During a Biology class the instructor had us all touch a piece of litmus paper to our tongues. We got a lot of different shades of colors. I try to remember that when people tell me they hate something I love.

I used to work for a company that had several Laotians employed. They craved what we/they called "chicken egg." It was an egg with an underdeveloped baby chick. They would eat it like a hard-boiled egg, little bones and all.

Rotten Poosay. It's the worst.

Bearcat 09-24-2008 03:24 PM

I'll eat pretty much anything except raisins.

Grapes - good
Turning grapes into shriveled black pieces of sh*t -- bad

Frazod 09-24-2008 03:25 PM

Never ate vegetables as a small child - my dad didn't eat them and my mom didn't cook them, plus my grandmother babysat me during the bulk of my preschool years, and I didn't have to eat anything I didn't want to. By the time she tried to get me to eat vegetables, it was too late. As a result, I don't like any normal vegetables that were force-fed to me (unsuccessfully) later. As an adult, I discovered vegetables that I like, primarily broccolli and spinach. So basically I like the vegetables most people hate, and hate stuff (onions, peas, peppers, green beans) that most people like.

I especially despise onions, since they're cooked into damn near everything.

"Chinese food" is just about the most broad term in the culinary vocabulary.

Potatoes are the most amazing vegetable. They taste different in all their different forms. Baked, french fried, pan fried, scalloped, twice baked and new potatoes to name a few. A person can actually live on potatoes if need be.

I don't really like onions. If they are cooked into something and not a huge focus of the dish I can stand them.

I'm a big fan of Blackfish. they are a pain in the ass to catch but they are some good eating.

They have teeth like humans and feed on crustaceans, so they'll crush the shell on a fiddler crab that you're using for bait and just suck the juice out.
