Have Gailey and Thigpen saved Herm's job?
I think they have. Herm can claim despite the poor record, that he is developing a franchise quarterback. Certainly Herm had nothing to do with it, and this offense goes against his style of play, but Hunt is not going to pull the plug on Herm with all the buzz Thigpen is getting.
Given that he no longer imposes his philosophy on offense, he is getting close to just being the figure head as head coach. Problem is, he still makes terrible decisions like punting when the chance of us stopping them was far far less than the chance of a conversion. |
Probably because his job didn't need saving, Clark is just like his old man, this is gonna be a long what 50 years?

Should a man on death row be spared because he grabbed a CO before he fell down the stairs?...
|
no, coaches don't have to do anything to keep their jobs with the chiefs....
|
I don't see how anybody can make this argument
Gailey is a known commodity -Herm knew what he was hiring or are you saying Carl hired Gailey -anyway you slice it the haters lose when it comes to Gailey |
no .... but all the injuries did

I honestly don't think Herm's job status in 09 was ever in jeopardy.
|
Unfortunately yes.
If this were any other organization, all they would need to see is: 1-18 and 14-28 overall since 06. |
I don't think Herm's job was/is in jeopardy yet, especially since there hasn't been a blackout. I don't give the Chiefs very much credit for playing better though. To me, it's like a 500 pound man losing 40 pounds. Good for you, but you're still a fatass and you're still the one that let yourself get to be a total mess to begin with.

The popular opinion is the Chiefs are fudging the numbers somehow because of the stadium construction. |

THere's more than just ticket sales. When fans don't show up, they buy less parking, less jerseys, less t-shirts and hats, and a lot less beer/hot dogs/bbq at the game. I'm sure a strong message has been sent that the fans are not happy. |

I'd rather see someone younger with some fresh ideas in there.

Someone fresh? Someone other than a branch off the Carl/Marty Tree? Blasphemy I say! How dare you question the true fans quest for mediocrity! |
It's not about this year's season ticket sales, it's about next year's. Suppose we had gotten blown out these last 4 games with r2p2 -- I'd have to think there'd be a major hit to season tickets. I don't know if this recent respectability is enough, but I'd guess yes.

Fellas, there has not been anything "fresh" in football since the invention of the forward pass. |
My blackout point is just that things haven't reached critical mass yet. They need to keep the 'Fire head coach scapegoat' card in case they really need it. The way it goes these days the Offensive Coordinator is the initial scapegoat and then when things get really bad the coach or GM. If they fire Herm this year, or right after this year, and they stink next year then what can they do? Fire the next coach?
This way if they stink next year they can fire Herm and buy themselves more time and retain some season ticket holders. I don't think Herm deserves to be fired because of this year though. They (the Chiefs)seem to have been on board with his plan to go young, rebuild, etc. so I don't see why they would fire Herm now. If they go 1-5 to start next year, or if they go 4-12, or don't have a .500 record for the second half of the year then I think they could be justified in firing him. I'm of the opinion they were too drastic with their rebuilding process. That tells me that Herm wasn't very worried about losing his job this year. Obviously, things can change but it seems to be he had confidence that management knew what was in store. |
I'm thinking they are definately helping Herm to keep his job. Don't think they are helping Gunther though.
Oddly enough, I almost wonder if Herm's changing a bit. Things I read this week, it seems like he's starting to be willing to let the O open up a bit. Even with LJ back, we didn't see the patent Herm up the middle stuff like we have in the past. 'Course it may be that he's been feeling the crunch and has been told to back off the conservativism. |

IMO, Herm's job was never in doubt. Clark was always gonna have him back next year regardless of the record.
|
Herm will not win again-he cannot make adjustments at halftime, motivate his team and makes stoopid calls that lose games....
that dipshit needs to go! |
I'm not sure what kind of storm could take down The Wreck of the Edwards Fitzgerald.
