R.I.P Gary
http://www.kctv5.com/traffic/17999514/detail.html
This was the top story on all news stations in KC at noon. Gary went to school when he wrote in his journal during english class about what was on his mind. He turned it into his teacher and left school. Sometime before 9:30, Gary sent a few of his close friends a text saying "goodbye." Gary was a friend of mine during high school and I always enjoyed talking to him. I just don't know why he made this choice. I would apprechiate all prayers. R.I.P Gary. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. |
oh wow. Sorry to hear man
|
I'm sorry for your loss dude. I won't feel sorry for Gary. Gary was a self-centered a-hole with zero regard for his family or friends. His entire legacy is defined by this one moment, taking the lazy way out. If he were an acquaintance of mine, I'd attend the funeral for his family's sake and then expel him from existence. I simply cannot and will not tolerate suicide.

He had straight A's in all of his classes. He had scholarships flying at him like crazy. He had a good future.. |
Sorry to hear it, man.
|
Sorry for your loss, dude. there was a similar situation here last week where a man tried killing himself by driving his truck 100mph into the woods at the end of a road. unfortunately he T Boned a 43 year old Man with 3 children, killing him instantly. the individual that tried killing himself survived the crash.
I agree with Phobia's sentiments. |
I had a friend shoot himself memorial day weekend. When you are in deep depression or high anxiety there doesn't seem to be any hope. You just want relief.

Nice post, Phil. :shake: Sorry for your loss, Farzin. Kids do stupid things, and sometimes they don't get a second chance. Try to remember the good things. |
Sorry to hear your loss, everyone else suffers...it's too bad he couldn't have talked to someone atleast
|
Suicide isn't always selfish. There are many cases where people feel they are a burden and everyone would have a better life without them.

I'm not a qualified expert and I'm not looking to pick a fight with anybody. My comments were designed to help Farzin feel better about it instead of feeling badly about the whole situation. |
I'd be pretty pissed at my friend for taking his/her life if that happend, it is selfish and everyone else suffers and feels the pain. Life is freaking tough but you live once, the ahhh **** it routine is bullshit imo as well.

A troubled kid made a horrible decision he'll never get a chance to make amends for. That doesn't make him the ****ing boogieman. |
Suicide is for noobs, but it's a little much to just flippantly say "He's an asshole, **** him." It's very possible that he had mental health issues that nobody picked up on. There are always signs that somebody is suicidal, and sometimes it takes a close friend or family member to catch those signs and get the person help before it's too late.
That doesn't excuse him for making a stupid decision, but obviously the kid needed help that nobody offered. |

Was Gary Protzmann a Kansas City Chiefs fan?

I can see this debate is going to get nasty. Take it somewhere else keep it out of Farzin's prayer thread.
Farzin, just remember the good times. |
This thread has potential for a blowup we really don't want.
Suicide is selfish. Kids make mistakes. Rationale is subjective, especially when your hormones are going in every direction. To the OP, don't let it keep you down. Use the event as a lesson to notice signs in other friends and family, and interject if you feel it necessary. |
Suicide is a cowards way out. It also says I don't care how how much pain I cause others I want mine to stop. Who knows what it takes to get to that point? Whats everybody's breaking point? Walk a mile in their shoes before throwing stones etc...
But also I don't believe in kicking a man when he's down. |

As the OP asks, I will send good thoughts to his friends and family.

I don't think it's fair to judge someone by their "mental toughness". There are a lot of factors that contribute to it that is completely out of our control. We're conditioned as children to act, and react to things differently. What may have seemed simple to many of you could have been beyond unbearable for this young man. And he was a young man. 17. That was the toughest year of my life, and 18 wasn't a whole helluva lot better. It's a shame, it's not like this kid had 30-40 years of experience to base his decision off of.

Sorry for your loss. Sorry that poor kid thought that there was no other answer than this. Sorry for his family and friends.

N.B: when someone's friend who you didn't know has just killed himself, no one who knew him gives a **** what you think about his suicide. |
From the FAQ:
http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/image...allink_ltr.gif Bannable Offense's Rude Comments in Prayers/Thoughts thread Prayers and thoughts threads are not treated as normal threads, and will be handled with kid gloves. So, if you have something rude to say, keep it to yourself. |
ok guys, yes suicide is a terrible thing and is indeed, the lazy way out. It is selfish and everything, but this guy's buddy just died and I'm just going to say that you should keep the negative thoughts to yourselves and let him mourn his loss without these comments.
He's just asking for prayers. |
I apprechiate your responses, especially Phobia's. While his comments may be a little controversial, it's not far from the truth. You name anyone: myself, his friends, teachers, admins, counselers, family, etc. No one saw this coming. When he gave the indication with the "goodbye" text, he already took off.
Once again, I cannot say I feel bad for Gary. Like I said in my first post, my thoughts and prayers go to his family and his friends (who happen to be close friends of mine as well.) |
Sorry for your loss Farzin. 17 is a crazy age and your mind works in a weird way and makes you do some not so smart stuff.

I'm glad you've received my comments in stride, Farzin. They're right. I certainly could have handled it better. Be well. It's gonna be a tough few days.
|
Farzin,
You're a front. You don't even eat chelo kebab koobideh. That aside, I'm sorry that Gary Protzmann took his life. |
Gary was a friend of mine during high school and I always enjoyed talking to him.
and that is the important thing. personal kindness is highly under-rated. |
My cousin killed himself. It's tough to go through. You don't know what was going on in his head when he decided to make that choice. All you can do is let your loved ones know you love them and be there for your friend's family.

One of my best friends in college hung himself about a month after graduation in his parents attic. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia and killed himself that same week of the diagnosis. So sometimes there are things working behind the scenes that we don't fully realize.
I still miss my friend very much, and feel for you, all his other friends and his family. |
My girlfriend works with this kids mother. This kids pain is over, but hers has just begun. She is the victim in this act.

Farzin, I'm sorry about this....but learn from it, and pass it on to those you will come to know and love. Suicide is, as they say....a permanent solution to a temporary problem. We should teach that before they turn 14-15 yrs old. It might make a difference to educate folks with brutal honesty on this touchy subject. |
Never thought about the big S .. Hell I guess I'll just hang around and piss people off ...
|
Meg: The last time I spoke with Alex, we had a fight. I yelled at him.
Nick: That's probably why he killed himself... What was the argument about? Meg: I told him he was wasting his life. Sorry for your loss, bro. |
