Texas beating aTm at home was impressive enough to jump Florida when Florida destroyed #20 Florida State in Tallahassee????

This is why the polls and BCS are a ****ing joke.

Florida should be ahead of Texas, and Texas should be ahead of Oklahoma.

It's all a lot of BS.

I just think, overall, they've played better, more consistent football over the last few weeks.

The only reason I think Alabama should be ranked ahead of them is the "0" in the loss column, a number that I expect Florida to change.

Truth is, nobody really knows who is REALLY better from the #1 team to the #7 team. You may think you do, but you really have no definitive idea. This is a good reason we need a play off. Da dee da dee

Sounds reasonable. IMO, that's one of the big shortcomings of this system - are the voters determining the team with the best body of work for the entire season, or which team you think would win in a playoff, or the team that is currently the "best" according to whatever criteria you have in mind?

How much of the BCS ranking for this week will be decided by ad revenue possibilities for the OU and Texas poll position ass ****?

FringeNC 11-30-2008 02:28 PM

What's a joke is the BCS. It's a bullshit mythical national championship game. Either have a tournament or don't. None of those top teams are obviously better than the others, so why throw out the results of all those teams' last game?

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Bama held their own... I don't think Saban is gonna let his guys lay an egg at this point. Plus people are always gonna go with the circus offense over the team that gets ugly and tries to dominate the line of scrimmage.

Probably Texas vs. the SEC. Unless the voters intentionally try to vote USC ahead of Texas to prevent that... but the Big 12 has too much pull to let that happen, I think.

Texas or USC vs. Bama/Florida I would think. My hatred for Texas will force me to root for OU

Count me as one of those traditionalists who thinks that a playoff - especially one with more than eight teams - dilutes the value of the regular season.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind a plus-one format.

I'll never understand this view... The system as it stands now dilutes the postseason, just look at the last couple of NC games and the awful bowl matchups. If, in this system, one loss meant you were SOL, I'd understand; but a pretty good 2-loss team won the NC last year. In the current system, you basically want to stay under two losses, with exceptions, and the same would be said for a playoff system.

Yeah, honestly, Boise has won a BCS bowl more recently than Ohio State, they're ranked higher, there's really no reason not to take them except money. I think the general thought is definitely that OSU is going to get picked though. There has been a lot of talk of trying to coordinate some kind of Boise/Ball State bowl game, because Boise expects to be passed over.

In this system, the way to put yourself in the best position is to win every game possible and play a good schedule.

Yes, LSU was a two-loss team that went to the championship game. But they got there because, among other things, West Virginia lost to Pittsburgh on the final weekend of the season.

My team, USC, wasn't in the championship because we failed to beat Stanford last year. The year before that we weren't in the championship because we failed to beat UCLA in the last game of the season.

In a playoff scenario, none of those games would have had any affect on the championship because both West Virginia and USC would have been in the tournament.

In that case, Texas Tech got shafted. They beat Texas. They should be playing.

Had OU lost last night, Texas would still be sitting at home.

PastorMikH 11-30-2008 05:13 PM

Quite a delima for me. I was born and raised Mizzou, but I'd really like to see OU play for a national championship.

MU wins and OU is out of the national championship. Rooting for someone to beat MU just feels wrong.

There's no reason why Mizzou shouldn't at least be in it since the game is in Arrowhead. Afterall, OU only beat KU by 14 and that was at home.

PastorMikH 11-30-2008 05:18 PM

#1 Alabama has to play #4 Florida. I would imagine that if Florida knocks off Alabama they would jump to the national championship. But, with all the hype between OU and Texas, wouldn't it be nice if Bama lost to florida moving OU to #1 and Texas to #2 and playing for the National Championship?

Oh definately. OU knocked MU out of National Champion contention last year, what better motivation that to return the favor this year to OU.

No. That would be stupid and unwarranted. We've already seen OU/UT on a neutral field. Florida is playing ball better or as good as anyone in the country and if they beat the undefeated, #1 team in the country, they DESERVE to play for the National Championship.
