Weather could spoil my Christmas
I am working in Detroit. I have my last job tomorrow night. Then I head home, probably around 1:00a.m. I looked at the forecast and it is winter storm advisories all the way home. Snow up here, then Ice, then rain/snow mix. Supposed to be a 12 hour drive home, which would get me home around noon on Christmas Eve, which is when we are starting some Christmas activities. With that weather, God knows when i will get home.

Yea this time of year it can suck. I know the snow & crap kinda messed mine up already. Couldn't afford to fly my daughter up here from KC, and had thought of meeting her mom 1/2 way and driving her up. But with all the snow and stuff decided it wasn't worth someone having an accident. Sh*t happens, and summer not that far away. Still kinda sucks, as this is the first year in 16 that my oldest hasn't got to spend xmas with dad. :(
Hope your trip works out ok, will keep you in my prayers. |
Be safe, man. I've said a prayer that you will get home in time to have a wonderful Christmas.
|
Thanks guys. The prayers are greatly appreciated.

The most important thing is that you get home safely.

You know, It is amazing how much better they clear the roads up here. There have been several snow storms hit since I have been up here. Every time, the roads are clear, and traffic is moving full speed within hours. It came a big storm on Saturday night. By the time I got up, the roads were fine. I drove 2 hours from Kalamazoo to Detroit. Traffic was moving 70-75 mph on I-94 the whole way.
|
I'm really surprised by the poor job Lincoln, NE does on their roads. I figured that being much farther north than KC they would be better. They seem to be on par with KCMO and not as good about clearing roads as Johnson County. Des Moines does a good job on their roads.
|
Good luck. Maybe try I-75 S to I-70 W, it might keep you on the rainy side of the storm?
|
I'm hoping that the drive will be OK for me today. The wife and I are heading back to my parents' place in Southern KS, so we'll be headed across I-70 through the snow today. It's only supposed to be a few inches but I'm never a fan of driving across eastern Colorado with snow coming down.

Christmas in Detriot
someone had to pay for the firing of Carl thanks for taking one for the team |
Hope you make it with decent time on xmas eve, goodluck man
|
It would suck if you didn't make it but drive safe and good luck.
Keep Herm in your mind. If things get ugly, he will be there for you. Just have him fix your car and throw him the **** out. |
Roads are getting pretty slippery down here.
|
It's been snowing all day up here. Two more hours until I can start working, and then about 4 hours to get the job done. If it stops between now and then, the roads will be in pretty good condition. Michigan does a great job of keeping the roads clear. Indiana and Illinois, I don't know how well they do. I am dreading the Missouri part the worst. I know what a crappy job they do of clearing off the snow/ice.

Stay safe, drive carefully and enjoy your family when you get home!

keeping the wife warm |
Looks like those prayers have been answered. I got started early, and started home a little after 9:00 central time. It snowed all day. It was still snowing when I left. I drove for 2 1/2 hrs before it changed to rain. Then it all but stopped. Roads are clear, and we are making good time. Looks like I will be home by 10:00 a.m. For those who said a prayer for me, thank you.

Colder winters... warmer summers... Thanks Al Gore!

Just waking up in Harrisburg, PA and it's freezing rain. The kind that brings down power lines and gets an inch thick so you need a jackhammer to break it up.
Hoping the temperature goes up and turns it back into liquid. I actually enjoy driving in snow just to put my gear to the test. Not so much freezing rain. |
