NFT: I'm going to be a Dad (part 2)
 

Some of you might remember that I posted a few months ago that my wife was pregnant, and then miscarried.

Well, we are expecting again. This time, we went to the doctor, they found the heartbeat, and said everything is going wonderfully. Last time, they said the egg never implanted into the uterin wall, which caused the miscarriage in the 6th week of pregnancy.

My wife is almost at 9 weeks now.

Hopefully things go well this time.

Are you sure you're ready?

I've got a 9 month old that has slept through the night maybe 3-4 times.

A week ago sunday, my very active 3 year old woke up screaming bloody murder, standing in the corner of her bed because "mosters" were going to get her.....I hop in bed, tell her its alright and she screams bloody murder because a monster is "getting me" while I'm talking to her. Its been a non-stop chasing mosters away, looking for monsters, "there are no monsters".....and then crying in the night from a kid who has never been afraid of the dark....because she's always thought her daddy was Chuck Norris.

today, after putting a puzzle together with her, she wanted to "play night time"...so we went to her room, searched for monsters for me to beat up....then I was "the baby" and she tucked me in, told me she wouldn't let anything get me, she loved me very much and would be just across the hall if anything tried to get me...and that she'd never ever stop looking for me if a monster took me away".

Fatherhood is very, very rewarding....but very very challenging.

Big changes coming this summer. Wife having a baby, moving back to my hometown, graduating with my Masters, and hopefully working in the school district I graduated from.

I think I'm ready right now. I'm going to be 29 next month, and I really didn't want to be an old dad.

I'll likely be leaning on a lot of you for advice come September.

I have no doubt that you'll do a fine job of raising a CONTRIBUTING, RESPONSIBLE, child.

Its not easy, but its the best job I've ever had.

I don't miss my pre-kid life at all......well, maybe during fits, pinkeye and tempertantrums...and that 3rd diaper today that was such a doozie.

Who knew a 18lb baby, who is so cute with those big blue eyes, was capable of such diaper-evil.....

Sounds like you have this pretty well under control. If you keep having trouble getting her to sleep and stay asleep, try monster spray. Just fill a spray bottle with water and label it "Anti-monster spray" or something. Use it to spray her room before she goes to bed to ensure the monsters will not enter her room.

The best advice I can give you is take nothing for granted; cherish every thing and every moment with your child. Your life is about to change in every way possible. You may think you understand love; I assume you love your wife; and would sacrifice anything for her. Wait until the moment you see your child born; at that moment I assure you that nothing else in this world will matter to you as much as that child.

Good idea. My sister said to do that. We've gone with the "put up the little glowing stars on the ceiling for distraction" method and now "camping" in her room in my sleeping bag with a little flashlight the past couple of nights. We helped her make a sign for her door that said "no monsters" and she drew and "wrote" all over it and taped it up for protection. I set the live trap on the front porch...I think we're making progress. Its pretty unsettling when your child is that terrified and doesn't think you can do anything about it.

Since starting typing this reply, I've been called away to help put in pink eye medicine, wipe a bottom and flush a #2 that bobdole would have named and should be an entry in my poo'em thread.

You are a few weeks further along than we are, it will also be our first.

And just remember, their food goes to Ireland or something first BEFORE it comes out their ass for the first 3 months, and the smell only gets worse as they progress to solid food.
By the end of the first year, you'll be able to take a wiff of stuff that would make a billy goat puke all in stride.
