CARL PETERSON HEADED TO MIAMI?

CARL PETERSON HEADED TO MIAMI?
Posted by Josh Alper on January 4, 2009, 10:28 a.m.

It’s unclear if Bill Parcells will exercise the escape clause in his contract with the Dolphins, but Carl Peterson may have something to do with his decision. The former Chiefs G.M. is close to new Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and, according to Adam Schefter, people around the league are convinced that Peterson is headed to Miami “sooner rather than later.”

Ross owned the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL and Peterson was their general manager. Peterson’s teams compiled a 48-13-1 record and he won two USFL Executive of the Year awards.

That makes Peterson the likely successor if Parcells decides to leave. It could also increase the likelihood that the Tuna takes his money and runs. If Parcells stays, Ross could hire Peterson in another capacity and create a situation where Parcells has less decision-making power.

Why would Parcells work for no money? He won't. So either Miami gives him what he is owed, and re-ups him, or he is gone.

He's gonna walk when the fish are sold. he has an out in his contract that pays him 9 million dollars if there's a change in ownership.

God, Bill Parcells and Carl Peterson would kill each other. Those two egos have enough trouble existing in the same dimensional reality, much less in the same football organization.

That's exactly my point. He has an option to get his full contract amount due upon the sale of the team. By failing to exercise that option, Parcells would be doing charity work for the new owner, and Parcells doesn't seem that stupid.

FringeNC 01-04-2009 11:37 AM

Maybe that's why Herm hasn't been fired. When Carl gets to Miami, we can get a draft pick for the rights to Herm Edwards.

Peterson in the same division with the Patriots.

There's a recipe for success!

Wilson8 01-04-2009 11:50 AM

I’m sure this falls into the category of leave it alone, but…Carl Peterson retires from the Chiefs who still have him under contract. Carl in that same year takes a job with the Miami Dolphins. Wouldn’t the Dolphins owe the Chiefs some type of compensation? Maybe in this case we have to pay Miami a case of beer.

If there was a position called "Team Motivational Speaker," Herman would fit the role perfectly. I agree with Shitlock's words, "damaged goods."

DaWolf 01-04-2009 12:00 PM

Well the good news for Miami is that Irelanad would still be the GM. As long as Carl doesn't touch the roster, he'd be a good enough businessman to try and get fannies in the seats. But if Carl gets to start dictating roster and draft decisions, Miami is going to go back to mediocrity real quick...

You are correct. But NFL GMs under contract after leaving a team would not be allowed to go to another team unless the Chiefs really did "fire" him.

If Peterson just ran the business side and be the top guy of the organization instead of doing it all, it could be a nice hire. Plus Miami wouldnt be a bad gig to go out on.

Accepts in reality, Parcells didn't build shit. He pulled a perfect Carl Peterson.

11-5, Division winner, first round flop.

The Dolphins only beat TWO teams this year with a winning record. One in week three (the Patriots) and the Jets in week 17.

They're the biggest frauds since the 2003 Chiefs.

If Parcells stays, Ross could hire Peterson in another capacity and create a situation where Parcells has less decision-making power.

Anyone who takes decisions away from parcells to give to peterson is insane.

Exactly. That's why Carl should be interested, because he wouldn't have to do anything. Serviceable QB, good RB, no recievers, and Vonnie Holiday. Miami is the Carl Peterson Chiefs.

There is a lot to the business side. Stadium issues, premium seating, sponsorship/signage, other special events at the stadium, business office, broadcasting contracts, public relations, community relations/player programs.

The biggest of all is that your premise is WRONG. Not all NFL teams sellout. The Dolphins didn't sellout all their games this year. The Dolphins have not soldout playoff games in the past. Five or six teams this season had blackouts. The Chiefs only avoided blackouts because KCTV 5 and a few sponsors bought extra tickets so the games would be televised.

HUIZENGA SAYS TUNA IS STAYING
Posted by Mike Florio on January 4, 2009, 5:30 p.m. EST
Amid rampant speculation that, once Stephen Ross acquires controlling interest in the Miami Dolphins, V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells will exercise an option to receive the balance of his four-year contract and walk away with no strings attached, current owner Wayne Huizenga says that Parcells isn’t leaving.

“Bill’s going to stay,” Huizenga said, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “He told me [Friday] he’s going to stay. He said he likes it here.”

With all due respect, what Parcells tells Huizenga is far less legally binding than the terms of his contract. At a bare minimum, Parcells will parlay the current situation into a better contract with Ross.

Otherwise, Parcells wouldn’t have leaked to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen last week the details of the Tuna’s “take the money and walk briskly” arrangement.

Meanwhile, a league source tells us that former Chiefs G.M. Carl Peterson attended Sunday’s playoff game, and that Peterson was “loving up to Ross” before the opening kickoff.

Earlier on Sunday, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reported that multiple league insiders are convinced that Peterson will join the Dolphins after Ross assumes control of the team.

And, if Peterson is going to be there, it really doesn’t make sense for Parcells to stick around.

Unless Peterson is going to be picking up the Tuna’s dry cleaning. Or giving Parcells lessons in how to spend 20 years with the same team and never go to the Super Bowl.

The most productive position Carl could be given with Miami, would be to have him dress up in the opposing teams mascot costume before the game, and sell tickets for charity which would allow each individual purchaser to beat him with a base ball bat.
