St. Louis Rams announce 3 staff hirings
By Jim Thomas
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo has confirmed the hiring of Paul Ferraro on his defensive staff, and also announced the hiring of Dick Curl as assistant head coach-quarterbacks coach and Frank Leonard as an offensive assistant.

Curl, 68, has spent the last three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, but worked previously for the New York Jets (2003-2005). He and Spagnuolo worked together for a couple of years in NFL Europe, with the Barcelona Dragons in 1992 and with the Frankfurt Galaxy in 1998.

It is believed Ferraro will be the Rams linebackers coach, but while confirming his hiring, Spagnuolo referred only to him as a defensive assistant. Ferraro has spent the past three seasons as special teams coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, but most of his career coaching experience has been on the defensive side. Ferraro, a college teammate of Spagnuolo’s at Springfield (Mass.) College, has been a defensive coordinator at four colleges, most recently Rutgers (2001-2004).

Leonard has spent the past two years coaching tight ends at Kansas State. His only prior NFL exeprience was as a special assignment scout with New England from 2004-06.

Brock 01-26-2009 03:14 PM

They've gone into a whole new level of suck, so they have attained verb/adjective status.

"You've Detroited yourself, son."

"You're so ****ing Detroit."

Curl performed one of the best coaching jobs this season, getting Tyler Thigpen to perform at an above-average level. I thought it was miraculous given Thigpen's small school experience, first exposure to NFL action and the state of the offensive line.

He's the one coach I wish we kept. The name, his look and his old school demeanor were classic.

WHY would anyone, except maybe the Lions, hire anyone that came from the Chiefs? Much less the QB coach? haven't they seen what's been going on with the QBs? It makes no sense to me.

RealSNR 01-26-2009 05:03 PM

bluehawkdoc 01-26-2009 05:09 PM

That fact that "The Curl" got hired somewhere/anywhere else just goes to show you how much of a "good old boy" network the NFL really is (coaches and GMs).

That was the last straw. You can fire a great person like Carl Peterson. You can fire a brilliant football mind like Herman Edwards. But when you let one of the greatest QB developers in the history of the NFL walk, you can bet your ass you wont see anymore of my hard-earned cash. **** you Scott Pioli. **** you Clark Hunt. **** the Chiefs, Im done.

Hop on I-70, and you're there in 4 hrs. If you leave when the big hand is on 12 and the little hand is on 12, then you might get there by the draft!
