Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

The New England Patriots have traded QB Matt Cassel to the Kansas City Chiefs, reports Adam Schefter.

its true! this sucks....was hoping to watch thigpen do good this year!

SAUTO 02-28-2009 11:56 AM

2nd rounder

CaptainMorgan 02-28-2009 11:56 AM

Just listening to Schfter...doesn't think its for the 3rd...thinks its for 2nd, and maybe a pick next year depending on performance

HC_Chief 02-28-2009 11:56 AM

Schefter is the man. Cassell = Chief.

I like it :D

Hootie 02-28-2009 11:56 AM

All this says to me is that Pioli didn't want anything to do with Sanchez/Stafford...

And I say who gives a shit...he knows more about Cassel than anyone.

2nd rounder + lower pick

This was a part of the reason I wasn't thrilled with hiring Scott Pioli like most here.

**** you Scott Pioli.

Second round this year, conditional next year is being reported thus far.

Reaper16 02-28-2009 11:59 AM

Scott should think about getting a Wes Welker type for Cassel to dump it off underneath to.

bdeg 02-28-2009 12:00 PM

could also be a swap of firsts which would suck.

HMc 02-28-2009 12:00 PM

this could be a good deal if they keep the 3rd pick and spend it wisely

bishop_74 02-28-2009 12:01 PM

I just feel better about this than gambling on a draft pick...

Pioli Zombie 02-28-2009 12:01 PM

The Chiefs get Cassel and Vrabel and still get to keep the # 3?

The Patriots get to clear out all the cap space abd get to pick #23 and #35?

An excellant deal for both clubs!!!!

NFLN guys speculating that we may be sending one of our disgruntled veterans to NE.

Perhaps that could ease the pain a bit.

maybe your best post yet

RedThat 02-28-2009 12:01 PM

Heck if we gave up only a 2nd rounder for a team that could use a QB, while keeping our 1st rounder that's not too shabby.

Well, the Patriots just got Taylor, so it probably wouldn't be Johnson if it were the case.

Hootie 02-28-2009 12:02 PM

Drafturbators are wishing the firing of Carl Peterson never occurred!

Shag 02-28-2009 12:03 PM

Not much of a Cassel fan, but if we kept the #3, that makes it a little less painful. Hopefully, he will prove to be better than many around here (myself included) feel he is...

I wonder if this means we'll be shopping the #3 around to try and get some picks back. Not sure if we'll get a buyer, but I can imagine the Pioli trying...

CaptainMorgan 02-28-2009 12:03 PM

offensive tackle 3rd overall...

dannybcaitlyn 02-28-2009 12:03 PM

If its for a second . I like it. He's proven he can play in the NFL.

Reaper16 02-28-2009 12:03 PM

It just got a whole lot more difficult to envision this team winning a championship. I'd love, love, love for this to work out, for Pioli to prove me an idiot. But I have my sincere doubts about the prospect of me being an idiot.

If it is a 2nd rounder, I can live with it.

dsgreene285 02-28-2009 12:04 PM

I like this move. I keep thinking back to the pass Cassel threw to Randy Moss backed up against his goal line after the Brady injury. I was cursing him then...different feeling today.

Who the hell are we going to draft at 3?

BJ Raji, Aaron Curry, Eugene Monroe?

Yay. We give up the #3 overall for a cover backer, a DT who is too goddamned stupid to stay academically eligible, or a left tackle when we already have one.

Just Passin' By 02-28-2009 12:05 PM

The compensation is still just speculation.

Don't even bother, dude.

This move is strike 3 for Hamas and he'll forever resent Matt Cassel regardless of what he does in KC...

I'm 50/50 on the move and Matt Cassel...I've been on record on this site saying Tom Brady is overrated and that the Patriots would have been a 13 win team with Matt friggin' Cassel running that team when they were 18-1...it turned out they were an 11-5 team...but I truly thought their system was the main reason for their success...

Well guess what...we have that system now and now we're getting two players who know the system pretty well...

I'm willing to have faith in Pioli and his decisions...I'm not a drafturbator and I'm not an armchair GM...these guys were on cloud friggin' 9 when Pioli was hired and now some of them have already given the guy 3 strikes...it's absurd.

thebrad84 02-28-2009 12:06 PM

Guess we will find out soon enough if Cassel is a 'product of the system.' He still has lots to prove in my opinion. Now, lets go out and get Monroe to have two studs blocking on the ends or get Crabtree so he has another weapon to throw the ball to. I wouldn't mind seeing us go after Houshmandzadeh and then getting Monroe with our 3rd.

No they are not.

They are wishing that we'd have hired someone like Eric DeCosta instead of Pioli.

Of course, I was wishing that before Pioli was hired.
