Rams release Orlando Pace
As expected. Plan on Jason Smith being the 2nd overall pick.

Why Smith?
Seems like Monroe is a better all-around prospect. |
Im sure the Eagles will take a look at him since they lost Tra Thomas

The guy was a stud in his prime. He's not Willie Roaf though and no way should we look to him.
I guarantee the Raiders come calling. |

left in the tank/ show the youngsters the ropes
No ****in way. |
He's got a couple years left. He's not ancient so much as injuries killed his seasons in 2006 and 2007. I suspect he'll get some phone calls from the Bay area.
|
wouldnt mind him at this point in his career at right tackle. We need help on the online in the worst way. I dont care if the guys are young or old, but they have to keep Cassel upright.
|
Yeah, let's bring in Pace, Brooks, and Harrison.

RAMS RELEASE PACE Posted by Mike Florio on March 10, 2009, 4:43 p.m. EDT The St. Louis Rams have announced that tackle Orlando Pace, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1997 draft, has been released. We recently were told that the Rams had been “trying like hell” to trade Pace. Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange pointed out earlier today that the move will save the Rams $5.975 million against the 2009 salary cap. “I can’t begin to thank Orlando for all he has meant to the Rams organization, since we selected him with the first overall pick in the 1997 draft,” said Rams Owner/Chairman Chip Rosenbloom in a team-issued release. “It is never easy to end a relationship that has had as much success as ours, but in the best interest of Orlando and the Rams, we feel now is the right time. As a Super Bowl Champion and seven-time Pro Bowler, he has been a true professional and will always go down as one of the finest Rams of all time. We wish him, Carla and their children the very best as they move onto the next chapter of their football journey.” It remains to be seen where that next chapter unfolds. Injured for much of 2006 and 2007, he played most of last season. Though he’s no longer among the best left tackles in the game, he’s better than most left tackles on most other NFL teams. Our guess is that the Raiders, who cut Kwame Harris and who opted not to sign Khalif Barnes, could be interested. The Bengals might eyeball Pace, who went to Ohio State, as a possible replacement for Stacey Andrews. The Ravens also are looking for tackles. The Vikings might be interested in Pace as an option on the right side, given that they were believed in some circles to be interested in making a run at Carolina’s Jordan Gross. In Kansas City, Pace would provide instant leadership in the locker room, and give 2008 rookie Brendan Albert more time to develop. :BS: Bottom line? If T.O. got another job in two days, Pace should be able to find a new home just as quickly. Idiots, Albert was developed enough, if we did pick Pace up, put him at RT or maybe transition inside to RG? |

I think a lot of risk if you sign him and depend on him.
Sept 11, 2007 - ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Rams offensive tackle Orlando Pace will miss the rest of the season with a torn labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder suffered in the season opener Sunday. The injury is Pace's second season-ender in two games, after tearing his left triceps last November. Coach Scott Linehan said this one could be career-threatening. Team physician Dr. Matt Matava estimated a six-month rehab period while calling it a "correctable injury." "I think it's too soon to say what implications there are for his future," Linehan said. "I would think it's all up to the mind-set of Orlando and how he responds to another recovery to a season-ending injury http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3013232 |

DN might be. |
Will he play right tackle for right tackle money?
Probably not so show interest and try to drive up the price for Oakland. I don't think you can depend on him to be healthy and you don't want to mess with Branden Albert's growth at left tackle by bringing in Orlando Pace and moving Branden around to other positions. We need a center, right guard, and right tackle to improve the line. I don't think Orlando will help. Sign a free agent right guard or right tackle to improve the team. |

Here's another take
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcwest/0...nsas-City.html The word around Kansas City is that the Chiefs could be open to moving Branden Albert, the No. 15 overall pick last year, to right tackle. The Chiefs could conceivably use the No. 3 draft pick on a left tackle. Yet, the availability of Pace could be tempting to Kansas City. Hmmm...where's this "word" coming from? And if we're open to moving him to RT.... |
Mayock is saying the Lions should not take Stafford. So, if they take Curry, as he is mocking, the Rams clearly take what they view is the best LT, that leaves us with little choice but to take the other LT Monroe/Smith unless we trade down.
Maybe someone will want to trade up to get Stafford, but I doubt the 49ers or Jets will worry that they need the #3 to get him. So, unless Pioli can find a way to trade down, it looks like we either get Curry or either Monroe/Smith. Not much in the way of suspense. |

Why in god's name would you move Albert to RT when his footwork and his pass blocking are his strong suit? He's not a mauler, he's a technician.
|
If we bring in Pace, let it be RT, not LT. Keep Albert just where he is! Pace would be a definitely upgrade over Macintosh. Keep Big Mac as the back-up and if Pace goes down, you insert him back in at RT. Pace still has a little in the tank, imho.

The guy is an ex-Denver newspaper writer. He has no clue what the Chiefs are thinking. If the guy reports something directly, like "Romeo Crennel's agent told me this", then that's one thing, but most speculation on this board is more valuable than his insight. Albert is a prime example. Williamson has been on for months about how the Chiefs could draft an OT at #3, and now he's trying to back it up with "word is". Like "word" of anything is leaking out around Arrowhead these days. In closing, I'd like to pop that guy right in the nose. THE NOSE, I SAY. |

Just laughing at your "hunch." That wouldn't happen to be an educated hunch, now would it??? |

However, it IS only March 10th. |

I WIN THE MOCK!!!!

And like I was saying, he also has the benefit of time on his side. A lot can happen in 7 weeks. |

I'd be interested to know what it is about Smith that has become so intriguing. Not saying he's not a high-quality prospect. Just saying... |
You talk about moving albert because you want teams behind you to believe you're serious about taking a tackle at 3. It's leverage. Just like talk about Curry.
Everything you hear this time of year is posturing. |
Quote:
There is absolutely a concern about the fact that he rarely ever put his hand on the ground and did some NFL caliber run blocking. |
Quote:
We've only got a couple of positions genuinely solidified on the entire team. Why would we draft a replacement for one of them? Hell, by that logic, maybe the Lions will draft Moreno #1. |
Quote:
I always think about this with QB's, but this evaluative tool is just as important for the line. |
Quote:
I was actually being sarcastic with the "word" thing cause that's exactly what I thought when I read it. And if that was the "word" he got then it would have to be a smokescreen. |
He's the next Roaf! Yay!
