? for handgun guys.
Opinions of Taurus Model 617 double action, 7 shot revolver, .357 Mag, 2.25” barrel for my CCW.
Alternate Taurus Model 444 double action, 6 shot revolver, 44 Mag, 3” barrel but this is a little more gun than I’d really want for CCW. |
IMO opinion Alternate Taurus Model 444 double action is ok Taurus Model 617 double action, 7 shot revolver, .357 Mag is also a gun

Best thing about Taurus is the lifetime warranty. Check out this Taurus CCW. http://www.taurususa.com/products/pr...egory=Revolver |

I would go with the 617. I didn't check the spec's but I would assume that it is lighter than the 444.

I'm buying a new CCW myself next weekend. I"m getting a Ruger SR9. Can't wait.

You can buy a more expensive gun but you won't get a better more reliable gun than a Taurus in my opinion

That’s why I’m after a smaller revolver, for size and reliability, and I like the .357 caliber for its versatility. |
My friend just bought this

My business partner just bought one of these. When he asked the gunsmith to sight it in the gunsmith said no, I don't need the pain. |
Oh yea it's not good for CCW.
|
First option.
|
Taurus Model 617 all the way.
I have a friend that carries one of them for CCW for when he's transporting the days cash at end of business and he let me pop off a couple shots. It feels great, quality construction, easily concealed and surprisingly accurate up to about 15 feet. I rarely carry but when I do it's a Springfield XD9 and it's the best pistol I've ever shot. It actually feels like it's an extension of your hand. Puts all other pistols I've shot to shame. Strictly for CCW purposes however I wish I would have bought the 617 after shooting one. |

No need for a sissy 357 magnum, why not go all the way and get the 600 nitro express on a Thompson Center Encore action? Here's a youtube video of a guy shooting it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yzI0AIpUUA (another feeble attempt at imbeding that probably won't work) http://www.youtube.com/v/1yzI0AIpUUA&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><EMBED src="<a href=" type="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" target="_blank" 1yzI0AIpUUA&hl='en&fs=1&rel=0"' v www.youtube.com http:>http://www.youtube.com/v/1yzI0AIpUUA&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></EMBED></P> The story behind it is the owner built it as a showpiece only with no intention of ever firing it. This guy at the range kept bugging him about letting him shoot it. He finally got tired of the guy asking and let him see for himself why it was a showpiece only. |
DAYAM! That guy's lucky he didn't get his skull broken!

FYI the penetrating power is the reason carry it OD, if you only have 13 +1 you better make sure you can hit whatever your target might be hiding behind

yeah I carry a Beretta 9mm on Duty and man that would be a PIA to carry concealed...but the G23 is a compact gun so it conceals easily |

I'm not too worried about long range, and I'm not worried about capacity. I'm not carrying to get into a shoot out, and if I'm shooting at someone over 30 yards away or spraying the target it's harder to call self defense. If it wasn't for Glaser Safety Bullets I probably wouldn't have chosen a Magnum either. But I think with a short barrel .357 I'll have the small size and versatility of being able to plink with .38's and load a combination of Glasers for knock down and a couple of Magnums later in the cylinder just in case I need to stop something big. |

If the words CCW and .44 come in the same sentance
YOU MIGHT BE A REDNECK (or just a plain dumbass) JF |
my brother just got a S&W airlite in 38special. 5 hole hammerless revolver. it looked nice enough for me to steal it from him lol.....
|
I've got a Taurus 617 2inch ported barrel that I dearly love; for some reason I am more accurate with it than my other weapons. I also have a Glock 27 (sub-compact .40) and Glock 30 (sub-compact .45) that I wouldn't part with. A few more trips to the range for practice and proof of reliability and the 30 will probably be my chief sidekick.

I like the .357/.38, but I'm even fonder of calibers that start with 4. I'd try shooting a short barreled .44 before you buy - they can be a handful if you're shooting an unported magnum (and loud as hell if shooting a ported magnum - annoyingly loud). But they're not half bad if you load good .44 special (and reserve your magnum loads for bear country). I like this Blazer w/Gold Dot hollowpoint. Cheap enough to afford a bit of practice, always goes bang and that Gold Dot's a good, reliable expander. http://tinyurl.com/c3tj6e |

All this talk of pistols forces me to post a picture my latest acquisition. This is a Para Ordinance Hi-Cap .45 special edition Operation Iraqi Freedom for the 101st AB. I wouldn't carry it, hell I don't know if I will even shoot it, but most likely I will.

Again, a 600 nitro express on an Encore frame. Not only will it penetrate the tree your target is hiding behind, it will take care of the guy sneaking up behind you with the same shot. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yzI0AIpUUA |
I carry this around when I wait in the line at clubs motherfuckers

We were shooting an old water well pump tank, and the .45 cal pistol was the only one that would penetrate it. Not the Beretta, not the glock .40, not the .357, or any of the other weapons(pistols) we we're firing. The.45 cal model Ruger like the one in this thred was not only going through the front, which no other pistol did, it was blowing shredded holes out of the back, the size of a silver dollar. That gun would blow 5 lbs off a man behind a car door. |

I shot an old junk TV straight in the picture tube with a .45 ACP using JHP's and it didn't come out the back side. I found the bullet sitting in the bottom of the TV housing with the shattered remains of the picture tube. Also an ACP has limited range because it's a big, heavy bullet thats moving slow, only 810 fps. If you were shooting at something 50 yards away, it probably wasn't with an ACP. |

Plus Glaser also makes their Safety Bullets for a .44 Magnum. Same plan as I discribed with the .357 Magnum, bigger bang. I've also kicked around the idea of getting a revolver in .40 S&W or .45 ACP callibers. I think either one would be a fine self defender, I'm planning .357 Magnum mostly because of the versatility. |

A .357 would be a fine CCW gun, perfectly controllable with the right load, and nice stopping power. I'm a fan of revolvers for "combat" situations, much less to go wrong. Now don't get me wrong, if I was delivering $10k in cash to the ghetto, I'd be carrying my Beretta .45. I also have a small Daewoo DP-51c 9mm that holds 12 rounds that is a dream to shoot and would make a fine CCW auto. It's a shame they didn't catch on, my Daewoo is one of my favorite handguns I have. It was pretty inexpensive, and has awesome quality and features. I bought mine from a local Sheriffs deputy, he carried it for backup for a bout 3 years until the department bought them all compact Glocks for backup. He said about half the department was carrying the Daewoo as backup when they had to buy their own, because of the quality and the fact their S&W full-size magazines from their service weapon would fit them. I bought it from him for $200. I tried carrying it for a while, but once you get 13 rounds of 9mm in there, it's pretty heavy and annoying. Here is a link on the Daewoo (I'm quite fond of it): http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg47-e.htm DT |
