WHAT YA' HAVIN'!?
|
Grilled Cheese and tomato soup, not much beats it and it costs like 50 cents.
|
couple of typos in there, carry on.
|
The only thing I've ever had on that list is the Whataburger double w/cheese....and that was in Tucson, AZ.
|
my speling haz ghone to shit since Phil left.
|
I've only had whataburger on that list. That surely can't be the best one.
|
Where's the love for Chicken Paninis?
Just look at that cross section. http://www.lindysonorecipes.com/wp-c...ges/panini.jpg |
Love me some pastrami.
|
You've apparently traveled a lot more than I have. I've never had anything on that list.

Monte Cristo...

I've ate Winstead's Cheeseburger's, very tasty. Better with a Chocolate Malt tough.
The other place I've been to on the list is Gate's and had the burnt ends sandwich. Best I've had in years. I'd love to visit those other place's though. Seen many of them mentioned on the food network. |
Carnegie.. not a difficult choice.
|
winsteads? do you have ANY taste?
|
My long-gone sandwich is not amongst these. I would choose a Bulldog Burger from the sorely missed Kearney Truck Plaza (Kearney MO).

At The Varsity you don't eat the burger, you eat the chili dog. DUH!
|
I'm not qualified to vote in the poll, but a hot sandwich I really enjoy is an open faced turkey, fries and brown gravy. Yummm-yum.
Reubens are also high on the list. I'm not sure if burgers can be part of the discussion. Yes, they are hot, and yes, they are on bread. But I see them as a totally separate category. |
What the hell is an orangina?
|
If you're old enough to remember the Reuben at Eddy's Loaf and Stein was the best sandwich in KC. Even better than BBQ.
|
Never been to any of those joints. Of all of those, I want the NY Deli. That shit looks amazing.
The best one I ever had I think was Buena Beef (I think?) In Chicago. Very good. |

You ever had an Orange Julius? Orangina is like that except it's served in a vagina with a curly straw. Sort of an acquired taste. |

Probably no one here's had them but I go with a couple of Buffalo, NY sandwiches:
The Royal (Mike's Subs) An Italian sausage patty made to fit on a sub roll, topped with capicola, lettuce, tomato, cheese and some oil & vinegar. That and a Buffalo tradition: Beef on Weck (served at bars and restaurants in Buffalo). Hot roast beef, sliced thin, soaked in juice, topped with horseradish, and served in a salted kimmelweck bun. Just ridiculously good |

I'll take a double Warrensburger (2 half-pound hamburger patties, pickles, katsup, mustard, lettuce, tomato) with a large fry and a cool glass of iced tea, please.
God, haven't had one of those since 1982. |

PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ PBJ |
Why no Tommy's ?

This thread is useless without a mention of the Westpoprt Flea Market burger.(couldn't find a pic)
Drive a few more blocks and get fries from Fric and Frac End of thread- |
Well if you're going for nostalgia, I had to vote for Whataburger. Having a ton of family in the D/FW area, we used to visit quite often. No trip was complete without at least one stop by Whataburger.
PS- As far as KC burgers go, Hi-Boy is way better than Winstead's. |

Al's Italian Beef Sandwich - Chicago?

d'bronx wild bill sandwich for KCMO is AWESOME!!!
The Awesome Reuben from New York Bakery and Delicatessen on 70th and Holmes was legendary, but the health department recently shut them down. Here's the owners version of the closing: from http://www.savethedeli.com/2009/05/0...ity-is-closed/ Sadly, the New York Bakery and Delicatessen is closed. I heard about it from several Save the Deli readers, and finally from Jim Holzmark and his wife Barbara. Here’s the story: Two years back, when I was in the deli, Holzmark told me that he was thinking of selling the place. He’d just turned 70, none of his kids wanted to take over, and the hours were backbreaking. He wanted to retire, and he put the deli up for sale. A year later, when none of the offers came through, he simply told me “Cash talk and bullshit walks” and endeavored to soldier on, and with right-hand-man Sonny Taborn at his side, he was making adjustments so that it’d be easier. Sadly, last March, Sonny had a stroke and has been incapacitated since. Jim tried to work even harder, despite the difficulty, but then got into a fight with the health department. They cited him for various violations and demanded he make $80,000-$100,000 in improvements to bring the sixty plus year old building up to code. Rather than fight, and spend all his money doing so, Holzmark bowed out, depriving KC of its last Jewish deli. “Sonny’s stroke took the wind out of my sails,” said Holzmark, in a conversation today, “The health department rode me pretty hard, and with that and with Sonny I had to cut out a lot of my wholesale business. So I made the decision to just shutter it. Its a real shame, because Pumpernick’s, the only other Jewish restaurant/deli in town, just closed six weeks ago. That’s it for Jewish food in Kansas City.” |

And on rye. Sourdough, wtf? |
A bunch of really specific and obscure choices. I'm thinking a poll maybe wasn't the best way to present this information.

lol, yeah, not a rye fan, sorta personalized that list. HA!! |
do you all really NOT know what Orangina is?
