Cards trade for Mark DeRosa

Cards acquired Mark DeRosa for Chris Perez and PTBNL.

Cubs fans have got to be pissed.LMAO I can't believe they traded DeRosa in January so they could sign someone like Milton Bradley. Awesome. Word is that the Cubs were looking to trade to get him back.LMAO

This should definitely help the Redbirds and screw the Cubs at the same time.

And before you Royals fans start bitching about this thread, if you don't like the Cards, you don't have to read or post in this thread.

DeRosa made the most sense. He can play 2nd if/when Glaus gets back or one of the corner outfield spots. I wanted no part of Holliday, at least at the price they were demanding, plus factoring in his salary. He hasn't even had as much production as Ludwick.

BigRedChief 06-28-2009 08:13 AM

Very cool. Much better than Holliday. He can play a lot of different positions. And the Front Office needs to show EL Hombre that they are serious about winning some more championships while Albert is in his prime. We got the best player in baseball and agruably the best RH hitter in the game evah. He deserves more than one World Cahmpionship in his career. And I'd like to have a 11th one myself as a fan.

Yea, the fact he plays 2nd, 3rd, and both corner outfield positions make him a perfect fit for La Russa's constant tinkering. Now he can run out 70 different lineups the rest of the year.

If he produces like he did in Cleveland (50RBI) he should make a big impact on the offense.

We have Feanklin. Mott and Todd for the future closer role. We are set at that position but we need some friggin offense. EL Hombre can't do it all himself.

Frazod 06-28-2009 08:15 AM

Excellent. And I hope the player to be named later is Mulder-I mean Glaus.

wild1 06-28-2009 08:20 AM

STL paper says its a minor leager. Usually these PTBNL are never top prospects but flyers that could work out.

I could see DeRosa re-signing after this year. Playing alongside EL Hombre would seem to be a good way to finish his career.

P.S. **** JIM HENDRY

If you need a lefty, there's Fontenot, and if you want to save some money, DON'T ****ING GIVE ANY TO AARON ****ING MILES.

Yeah, Bradley rocks. I'm considering getting a jersey.

DJ's left nut 06-28-2009 11:19 AM

Depends entirely on the PTBNL.

Perez is just another guy. He'll never get a good enough handle on this command to be a reliable closer and our minor leagues are FILLED with right handed relief options. Kinney will fill Perez's role, Motte or Todd will be our COTF.

DeRosa is pretty bag against righties though, that can't be overlooked. He's a nice player, but I still think we're a bat away from contending. If by some miracle Glaus comes back, shifting DeRosa to 2b and Skip to RF (with Rasmus and Ludwick) then we may be onto something.

I don't get the reference, sorry. What do board games have to do with anything?

Not really. Who is more important to this team, Larussa and Pujols? or some PTBNL If the front office was to set on his hands when we got a chance to win it all this year could possibily cause Larussa to not come back and Pujols start thinking about other places that are more committed to winning.

curious who the "player to be named later" will be for DeRosa. now the x-Cub factor comes into play.

I know there only a handful of people on this planet that can hit major league pitching, but shit, find another one other than BRADLEY, dude is reeruned, actually he gives reeruned people a bad name

bdeg 06-28-2009 04:42 PM

Agree with UP on both counts. As a Cubs fan I hate this trade, and what's the deal with Bradley? Is there a youtube video I need to check out, or are some people overly fascinated with baseball players who share the same last name as the Chiefs' #2 WR?(I know his persona, what's he done as a cub?)

Frazod 06-29-2009 09:38 AM

Oh my God, Cub fans are PISSED. LIVID. FURIOUS.

It's almost cruel to mess with them over this. But I won't let that stop me.

The best part is saying "Well, look at it this way, if you hadn't gotten rid of DeRosa, you wouldn't have Milton Bradley."

So much more fun to do it to people in person.

Cubs fans? Hell, the MFing Cubs players are livid.

Quote:

"It stinks," Cubs shortstop Ryan Theriot told MLB.com. "He's going to the Cardinals. What do you want me to say? 'It's good? I'm glad? I'm happy for him?' He's going to our division contender. I'm excited for him. I know what type of player he is and what he brings to a ballclub, so yeah, I don't want to see him in our division, much less the Cardinals. He'll help them tremendously."

Anything to add, Aramis Ramirez?

"You don't want the team you're chasing to get a player like that," Ramirez said to MLB.com.

"We all know he was a huge part of our club, on and off the field, and St. Louis is fortunate to have him over there," Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly told MLB.com. "He's going to help that team."
I still want to know who we gave up as the PTBNL. Remember, Mozeliak could've had DeRosa for Perez straight up 3 weeks ago (rumored by Miklasz and confirmed by Gammons), so that PTBNL matters a ton.

I still think Mozeliak is in way over his head, but at least he's finally looking to improve his club a little bit instead of merely building up a minor league stable of right handed relief arms.

It's funny, I did some soul-searching this season and determined that there was not one thing I liked about the Cubs anymore (I started the season as a longtime Cubs fan). That tidal wave started with them getting rid of Derosa and signing dipshit. So this season a little ways back I took a hard look at things and decided to go back to my early childhood team - the Cardinals. Now that the Cards have Derosa, the cirlce of fandom is complete.
