Powerhouse Jason Whitlock benches 600 lbs
According to this article, at least.
And yes, I laughed. http://www.criticalbench.com/pro-ath...ench-press.htm |
Looks like anyone who sent him info got it in the article..
|
that was an odd read.
|
Yeah, the article sucks for more reasons than "Jason Whitlock, powerhouse of the Kansas City Chiefs."
|
There are probably like 3 players on the Chiefs outside of kickers & Brodie Croyle who can't bench 300 lbs.
|
Not to mention Paul Hamm only benching 165 lbs? Give me a break. That dude could crush my head with one hand.

He's close to 400 lbs so what do you expect?
When his gut sticks out 3 ft, and his arms reach out only to 4 ft, he really doesn't have to push the bar up that far. I'm not too impressed with fat guys and their bench stats. Give me someone who's 6'3 220 that can bench 400lbs, thats more impressive. |

600 pounds? That's almost as big as his ego.
|
I'm not buying it I've done 300 once and its incredibly heavy. He's not that kind of athlete.
|
Wow, this article is very old. We hosted a powerlifting tournament about 4 years ago and I helped gather some interesting stats and info for the MC to pass on during the lulls in action and I am positive I used this exact article for some of the tidbits. It was outdated even then so you know its gotta be worse now.

I did a search and Tiger woods claimed a press of 375, I also found this as the world record... NEW BENCH PRESS WORLD RECORD 1074 LBS

Who were they really talking about? Brian Waters? Or if it's an old article, maybe Willie Roaf?
I remember watching one of those NFL Superstars competitions many years ago, back when Roaf and LaRoi Glover were Saints. They were having a bench press competition, and Glover was one of the finalists. (Roaf wasn't participating in the show.) I remember they were at some weight that the finalists were struggling with, and Glover was waxing poetic about how Willie Roaf wouldn't even be hesitating at that weight. I guess he was a monster in terms of raw strength. |

I bench 295 lbs, squat 360 five times. Deadlift 455 five times. I'm 185 lbs.
In the grand scheme of things, I just think I waste my time lifting. Some guy that is way weaker than me could know jujitsu and MMA could probably beat the crap out of me. I really need to learn MMA so I don't get my ass kicked by little kid when I'm stumbling around drunk some time. |

If I need something heavy lifted, I hire someone else to do it. It's a sign of mammalian intelligence.

But, I am much more impressed with proper form and pressing with your chest than all the other BS. Even the NFL guys that do the 225 rep are sloppy. But, they are in the NFL and I am not. |

Yes, the bench shirt adds alot to his max (400-500lbs for some) but u can't slam his technique because it's legal in all powerlifting federations. In NASA and USAPL (the only drug free fed's in KS) you have to have a noticeable pause when the weight touches your chest...in NASA you actually have to wait for the head judge to tell you when you can press the weight off of your chest. Arching of the back is legal but your butt has to stay on the bench and can't slide around and your feet have to be flat on the floor and stationary. It's not easy. |
JW could bench 600 pounds of ribs into his belly.
