**** OFFICIAL Pitt St @ Kansas [Exhibition] Game Thread ****
Tonight at Allen Fieldhouse... 7pm.
BE THERE!!! |
I just can't wait til the Memphis game. Granted they're not anywhere close to being the team in 07-08...but that's still good competition. Same with UCLA, CAL, and TEN.
Seems KU bball didn't **** around with non-conf schedule this season. |

Knee injury is slowing KU’s C.J. Henry By J. BRADY McCOLLOUGH The Kansas City Star <script language="Javascript"> function PopupPic(sPicURL, sHeight, sWidth) { window.open( "http://media.kansascity.com/static/popup.html?"+sPicURL, "", "resizable=1,HEIGHT=" +sHeight+ ",WIDTH=" +sWidth); } </script> <!-- photo or image available --> <!-- Start: /pubsys/production/story/assets/image_embedded.comp --> http://media.kansascity.com/smedia/2...filiate.81.jpg Rich Sugg C.J. Henry <!-- End: /pubsys/production/story/assets/image_embedded.comp --> LAWRENCE | Kansas coach Bill Self said last week that he hoped redshirt freshman C.J. Henry would be able to play in tonight’s second exhibition game against Pittsburg State, but Self said Monday that Henry’s injured knee is not cooperating. “He’s tried to practice, and it’s swelled back up,” Self said. “I don’t know if he’ll play (tonight). He’s about 70 percent right now.” Henry, possibly more than any other Jayhawk, needs to be practicing and performing in exhibition games this season. He has not been able to play consistently in more than four years because of three years in the New York Yankees’ farm system and a year recovering from an injury at Memphis last season. Since deciding to join little brother Xavier at KU this summer as a walk-on, C.J., a 6-foot-3 guard, has been working to recover from a foot injury. Now, he has added the knee to a growing list of ailments that have made it difficult for Self to make an evaluation. “He needs an opportunity to get out there and show what he can do and get a little confidence,” Self said. “I’m concerned, but I’m not concerned as much about the injury as I am the fact he’s missed so much time, and once we start playing games, we don’t practice as much, and it’s hard to get that rhythm and be out there once you start playing games for real. You don’t put guys in the game just to get them in the game.” C.J. is not a candidate for a redshirt because he used that option last season at Memphis. When healthy, he will be among a group of guards competing to become the Jayhawks’ primary ball handler off the bench. Xavier said that C.J. is handling the latest injury in stride. “It could be the support system and stuff like that,” Xavier said. “He’s got the whole team behind him, the coaches, he’s got his little brother here. I guess that’s the easy way to keep his head level.” Self said C.J.’s status would not affect the decisions about whether to redshirt senior Mario Little, sophomore Travis Releford or junior walk-on Conner Teahan. Speaking of redshirts Self said that he has talked with all three of his redshirt candidates and that, as of Monday afternoon, nothing was concrete. “I’m going to visit with the guys again (Monday),” Self said. “(Today) is really not (the deadline). We kind of put the date on it, but really you could still not play (tonight) and still not redshirt. We’ll wait and see how it plays out.” NCAA rules state that returning players can’t play in exhibition games and redshirt, so Self will be careful not to play Little, Releford and Teahan tonight. All three players would probably get most of their playing time at the No. 3 position, which will be occupied often by Xavier Henry. Self has also said that Marcus Morris has been working out 40 percent of the time at the No. 3 slot. Brady Morningstar played the position last season and will be back from his suspension in December. More injuries Self said junior guard Tyrel Reed tweaked his right ankle over the weekend and may not be able to play tonight. <!-- --> Posted on Mon, Nov. 09, 2009 11:02 PM |

I guess they just figured that Teahen wasn't gonna play much any year so it's either transfer or just go ahead and play it out.

Oh, and Texas Roadhouse is highly over-rated. You shouldn't go there. |

The freshmen bring a lot of energy and talent to an already deep team. This is going to be an amazing season and, come March, one amazing team. :)

I think the most exciting part of our roster is the progression of the Morris twins.

I can't find the shooting percentage but it was probably low. Pittsburgh state also turned the ball over 30+ times. |

For a real treat, go to Northstar Steakhouse. Take highway 24 east to Rochester road (the corner with the wal-mart and dillons), turn left and left again on the road that goes around the Dillons parking lot, then your first right, and you will see the Northstar on your right. They used to be a members only club to get around the liquor laws in Kansas. The steaks are great, the service is wonderful, and the french fries with gravy are what they are famous for. They also serve blind tiger beer (they are owned by the Blind Tiger now). You can also get a free steak dinner on your birthday. |

For those of us who couldn't watch the game for whatever reason. I actually got a queezy feeling watching those highlights. I know it's only Pittsburg State, but holy lord we looked so good it made me sick! I love the sharing of the ball. Guys making the extra pass, finding the open man, especially on breaks when everyone wants to get on Sportscenter. |
the energy level looks better when our young guys are in there
that bodes well for the improvement of the youngsters. |

Pathetic. |

Xavier Henry, Elijah Johnson and Thomas Robinson are VERY good... it's a shame that all are too good to actually play four years now... If everyone stayed all four years... the only person we would really lose from next years roster is Sherron Collins.

I think Saul has penis envy... he negged rep me for my fandom. I think he wants a neg rep war, apparently. Relax, Saul.
College Basketball has been my favorite sport since 86'... :-) The Jayhawks basketball team consistently brings much more joy than the Chiefs or Royals... the owners SUCK on both of those teams... |

Man this team is good. The only weakness I see is youth, but with that said we have two upperclassmen that have been there before and already have a national title.

The dunk by McMorris was just plain nasty. Hope we see more of that from him. Wow

Thomas Robinson is a stud. He will be one-and-done.
The guy he reminds me most of is Blake Griffin. I think we have to start one of the Morris bros (since we can't really play them both at the same time), but Robinson might be our best forward by the end of the year. |

The kid is very talented. He reminds me a little of Tyrus Thomas when he played at LSU. Very athletic, all over the court, but still very raw. A couple of years with Manning will do wonders for him. |

When the young guys are out there (XH, Robinson, Taylor, EJ) they are flying all over the place - attacking on defense, getting turnovers, dunks. Its exciting to see, but against better competition that "energy" could turn to "sloppy" pretty quick. |
what's even kinda shocking is that we might be better than i thought this year because the Morris twins look much improved. I wasn't counting on that but i'll take it. :D

Kansas demolishes Pittsburg State 103-45 in exhibition game By J. BRADY McCOLLOUGH The Kansas City Star <script language="Javascript"> function PopupPic(sPicURL, sHeight, sWidth) { window.open( "http://media.kansascity.com/static/popup.html?"+sPicURL, "", "resizable=1,HEIGHT=" +sHeight+ ",WIDTH=" +sWidth); } </script> <!-- photo or image available --> <!-- Start: /pubsys/production/story/assets/image_embedded.comp --> http://media.kansascity.com/smedia/2...filiate.81.jpg RICH SUGG | The Kansas City Star KU's Sherron Collins stole the ball from Clarence Masters of Pittsburg State in the opening half of Tuesday night's game at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence. <!-- End: /pubsys/production/story/assets/image_embedded.comp --> <script type="text/javascript">$(document).ready(function() { replaceRelated('sports');});</script> LAWRENCE | A behind-the-back pass from Tyshawn Taylor to Marcus Morris in the lane and what happened next said everything about the importance of Kansas’ 103-45 demolition of Pittsburg State in evaluating the No. 1 team in the country. There was Morris, barreling toward the basket, the 6-foot-8 swingman from Philadelphia who had no doubt he would play big-time college basketball by the time he got to high school. And there in front of him was 6-foot-1 Andy Smith from Dewey, Okla., who was a four-year all-conference performer for the Dewey High Bulldoggers and led them to a pair of district, region and area titles. Smith had put in his time to place himself in this hallowed lane, underneath the Final Four banners and giant video scoreboard. A junior, he redshirted his first year and then missed the next year with a knee injury. Last season, he finally got on the floor and helped the Gorillas to a win at Truman State with 13 points. When Morris got the ball in that lane, nobody in Allen Fieldhouse knew what he would do. Last season, as a freshman, he may have pulled up for a jumper. He may have been tentative and drawn a charge. He may have missed a dunk attempt. One of the Jayhawks’ more open personalities, Morris would probably admit that those were all options for him a year ago. On Tuesday night, in KU’s last tune-up before the season-opener Friday against Hofstra, Morris got that ball and decided he had better ram it down the throat of the South hoop. Morris rose, brought the ball back with his right hand, bulldozed a helpless Smith to the ground and flushed the ball in with authority. No charge was called, and in fact, the helpless Smith was called for a foul. As Morris walked to the free-throw line, the 16,300 fans in attendance gave Morris a loud standing ovation – a special moment that truly wasn’t conceivable a year ago, when Marcus and his twin brother, Markieff, were a favorite target of the KU critics. Of course, this was Division II Pitt State, and this was Andy Smith as the last line of defense. Will Morris make the same type of play against Texas’ Damion James or Oklahoma’s Willie Warren? That remains to be seen. Morris was one of a collection of Jayhawks that allowed stars Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich to relax for a night and pick up their points, 13 and 10, respectively, as they came. Morris had 14 points to go with eight rebounds, and Thomas Robinson, Tyshawn Taylor and Markieff Morris contributed 17, 12 and 12 points, respectively. But the most newsworthy event happened on the KU bench, where senior swingman Mario Little and sophomore guard Travis Releford sat in street clothes. By sitting, Little and Releford kept alive their option to redshirt this season, which is looking more likely after junior walk-on Conner Teahan played on Tuesday. Teahan, who plays the same position as Little and Releford, was also considering a redshirt year but will now be forced to play this season. <!-- --> Posted on Tue, Nov. 10, 2009 09:22 PM |
Pitt St only reallyt scored when the scrubs came in. otherwise it would have been a 75+ point blowout.
Thank god Kaun is no longer at KU. |
Don't know why Teahen played this game.
Little and Releford looks like they will RS. |
