A few random observations after reviewing the game
1. The Steelers are dirty pricks. Hines Ward, Heath Miller, whoever the one who sucks the penis was that walloped Cassel WELL after his shovel TD pass was released - dirty pricks. Late hits all over the place. We should have been moved up 15 yards on the kickoff after that late hit on Cassel's TD. For shame.
2. The Chiefs scored their first offensive touchdown (Pope) with a particular play. They ran the exact same play, with slightly different personnel, on Chambers 61-yard catch and run. I couldn't believe it. On the first snap, obviously Chambers was covered short, and the Steelers screwed up the deep coverage. On the second snap, the Steelers had the deep receivers crossing covered up, and Chambers came free underneath. Props to Haley for drawing up something that works so well? 3. Derrick Johnson is going to be the lead on GIF'D UP this week. Not even close. He missed so many tackles yesterday it made me sick, and obviously he screwed up the coverage on Mendenhall's short TD catch. **** it, he's a bust. Time to cut losses and move on. Belcher and Mays may not make as many huge plays but they have been FAR more consistent. 4. Branden Albert played a much, much better game this week. The tape might show that he allowed two sacks, but the second one was really Cassel holding onto the ball too long. The first was off play action. I thought other than those two plays he was very solid. O'Callaghan did not fare as well. 5. The play that everyone may be forgetting about is 3rd and 2 down by the goalline, right before we tied it up. They gave Charles the ball and there was NOWHERE to run. He created on his own, got outside, and 2nd effort got the first down. Simply put, a play LJ never would have come close to making. Wow, if Charles doesn't pull that out of his ass, does Haley go for it? Or does he puss out and Herm it up? 6. The OTHER play everyone may be forgetting about is the deflected pass by Tyson Jackson. From what it looked like to me, he had Heath Miller wide open down the middle with room to run. If T-Jack doesn't get a paw on that ball, Miller puts the Steelers in FG range with under a minute left in regulation. Sometimes, it truly is the little things. 7. Brian Waters is the most penalized guard in the entire NFL. He has seven penalties this year, but I didn't realize how bad that was until I compared him to the other guards (via Pro Football Focus and stats.com). He's washed up. I hope he's not back next season. |
big play by Jackson, sometimes it's the things that don't show up on the stat shee tthat means the most.

All those people complaining about DJ being on the bench and being our best LB need to STFU.
He showed why he has been riding pine. Same old shit, different game. |
A GIF of his would have been sack over Mewelde Moore would be nice though.

Was it a BS call or legit? |
There was no penalty on that play. DJ got a half sack.

Thanks. |
Waters, much like Whitlock and ROR are way late on the bandwagon.
And all three are washed up. Leadership my ass. What a joke. Our inside LBing leaves much to be desired, and DJ is the worst of the bunch. I hope to god we don't resign a guy that makes Demorio Williams look like a world beater. Another Carl 1st round bust. |
#7 is a given...
Still believe Waters is a snitch to Whitlock.... He is a cancer, needs cut out... |
I only caught glimpses of the game due to unreliable streams but I was under the impression DJ was having a good game. Didn't he blow up a couple of plays in the backfield and get at the QB pretty well?
|
I love it when a d-linemen is able to get his hand up and bat a ball down. It just seems demoralizing when you don't even get a CHANCE to catch the ball.

Re: 1 - Hines Ward and Heath Miller are both offensive players, I highly doubt either of them were involved in that play.

DJ and Brown are kindred spirits

DJ is worth keeping as a situational player. That sack he had was really impressive. He absolutely blew up the RB on that play, took him into the backfield, and finished the job by getting Big Ben to the ground, which we had a tough time doing all day.
Granted, he may screw up a lot, but he makes plays that our other LB's can't make. |

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/200911...ost-playbyplay 1-10-PIT 20 (1:47) (Shotgun) 7-B.Roethlisberger sacked at PIT 16 for -4 yards (56-D.Johnson). PENALTY on KC-92-W.Gilberry, Illegal Contact, 5 yards, enforced at PIT 20 - No Play. And one other huge play in the game was this one in OT... 3-2-KC 35 (10:43) 21-M.Moore right end to KC 38 for -3 yards (59-J.Belcher). This play forced the punt instead of a 52 yard FG attempt that probably would have beaten us. |
It didn't wipe out the sack though.

Wow. Weird. I don't even remember that being announced.

Hines Ward is a douchebag and could be the reason that leads me to hate the Steelers.

I liked the play where Studebaker took on a double team during a pitch, broke through, forced the runner inside and caught a leg till helped showed up.
He had a great game. |

We have had 4 or 5 guys IMO that have stepped up in the past few weeks that seem to be eliminating the immediate need for replacement in the draft next April. Chambers at WR Long at WR Charles at RB Studebaker at OLB Belcher at MLB |

Not only that, but the depth at RB is pretty thin IMO. I don't think a high pick is warranted, but it would hurt to take a goal-line/move the chains type guy. |
Oh, I'm sure we'll draft a RB or 2, but just not early.

Im happy they're giving guys like Studebaker, Belcher, and Long chances. This is the positive of being a crappy team. Play several guys throughout your roster to see what you have. If you're gonna be crap, at least get a feel for your roster? And the greatest thing is, they have nothing to lose in the process. I give this current regime some credit for that. |
when ever Health caught a pass, everyone in our section (section 109), we starting chanting DOOUUUUUsssshhhh

I was actually at the game and watched Derrick everytime he was on eht field. yesterday he actually showed his athleticism but he did miss to many tackles but none of our other linebackers could get to the places where he is missing tackles. I think he goes for the big hit instead of just wrapping up. He did play more yesterday than he had in previous games. Thought he actually played decent almost well. But he just makes a dumb play here and there. if he could be more consistent he has the potential to be a very good linebacker as he can run and make plays. question is how much longer can you wait on that?

Its that kind of shit that has me wishing we had drafted Rogers instead. |

Regarding Charles, he should have been given the opportunity earlier in the season but better late than never. Regarding Waters, I get your point, but our O-line has a whole list of things wrong with it and I definitely don't want to get rid of him with our current talent level. |
Good games by Jon McGraw 8 tackles, 7 solo.
Studebaker 6 tackles, 5 solo & the 2 picks, unfortunately I think Vrabel will get his spot back. Mike Brown 9 tackles, 5 solo Brandon Flowers 6 tackles, 5 solo & the forced fumble. Stud. Also very happy with our WR's. |
Big ben seemed like he was superman back there flicking the chiefs off like flies. Chiefs need to learn how to tackle that is for sure.

I fully expect Albert to continue to develop from this point.
I said after the second game of the season that it would take 6 or 7 games before we started to see him begin to improve as he struggled with weight loss, technique and a new scheme. Throw out the game he missed to injury, and it appears he is right on the pace I said he'd be on. I expect he'll still have a couple of brain farts here and there, but by the end of the season, he should have allayed most concerns. |

Hines Ward is not a dirty player. I'm sick of that label placed on him by embarrassed LBs and DBs. The guy goes 100% intensity every snap, wants to hit you in the mouth, and takes every rover in the NFL's best shots every week only to dust himself off and smile. I only hope we could by some stroke of luck find a skill position player with his mentality. Personification of toughness/class/winning culture
I'm still holding out hope that Dwayne can develop into that kind of player (he obviously possesses greater natural talent, but intangibles? the jury's out) because there's no other career path I'd rather see him go down. Give me Hines Bowe over Dwayne Marshall anyday... |

Unthinkable, Sir. UNTHINKABLE I SAY! |
The guy that stood out to me and was always making a play was McGraw #47. He gets there AND he tackles. Without even trying, I counted 5 missed tackles by DJ.
Both the Jags game and this one, they should have 10 more sacks than they do. Seriously, these guys should practice playing flag football. Even our 10 year olds know how to break down and not overrun the QB. |

Yeah, well I have a few observations on the post.
I don't think the Steel is any better or worse than most teams and how they play in the NFL. It's a tough balls-out game and not for the faint of heart. --Pope scored after the Steel DB failed to hand off the skinny post WR, took the bait and left Pope unattended. --Charles had a good game, but to me, took too many huge hits. He won't last long doing this. --Something happened with the Mojo on the team. Call it new chemistry, believing in the mission or a 'Coming to Jesus' moment. Something is different here and it could be a good thing. @SD this Sunday will confirm or deny the above point. |
