What players have a future on this team's future run(s)?

Some players can stick around because they are clear starters for us in 2012.

Some players can stick around because they provide depth and backup support.

QBs: Cassel (starter), Gutierrez (depth)

RBs: Charles (starter), remote possibility in Williams (depth)

FBs: none

WRs: Bowe (starter), Wade (slot), maybe Lawrence (depth)

TEs: none, but maybe Cottam (depth)

OL: Albert (starter), Brown (maybe starter?), Smith (maybe starter?), Harris (depth), Ndukwe (depth)

DE: Dorsey (starter), Jackson (starter), Magee (depth), maybe Gilberry (depth)

NT: Edwards (depth)

OLB: Hali (depth)

ILB: Williams (depth)

CB: Flowers (starter), Carr (maybe starter), Washington (depth), Leggett (nickel)

S: Morgan (maybe starter), maybe McGraw (depth)

ST: Colquitt, Succop

The guys you have marked as starters, are those guys that you think will still be starting in 2012?

BigCatDaddy 11-25-2009 03:47 PM

WTF is Williams at RB?

I like Belcher to stick around at ILB.

CaliforniaChief 11-25-2009 03:47 PM

I'd take Wade, Cottam, Ndukwe, Smith, Edwards, Williams, and Leggett off that list.

If you're talking short term, I'd leave Chambers on there.

Other than that, we still have a very very LONG way to go, IMO.

Why on earth would I be talking about shortterm when I'm talking about the team's future run(s)?

id like to see bowe kick rocks.

RustShack 11-25-2009 03:56 PM

How is Long not on there!? Pope will probably be our starting TE then too.

Right.

I think we're pretty close, but I'm not sure Cassel will still be the starter in 3 years, Charles will be a 3rd down back (I can only assume they'll draft an every down back at some point - or maybe Williams) and I'm thinking Carr will still have the CB2 on lockdown.

Then, of course, Colquitt and Succop.

Here's the players/moves I'd like to see next season.. not accounting for contract situations.

QBs: Cassel, Croyle, Gutierrez
-with other holes more pressing I'm content with the QB situation

RBs: Charles, Smith
-I'm all for drafting someone in the mid-rounds, round 3 at the highest.

FBs: Castille (haven't seen much but the option play was beautiful)
-largely irrelevant so I don't want to see draft picks spent here

WRs: Bowe, Chambers, Long
-this position needs free agent and draft help. If Chambers is gone it'll be a big priority. Bradley needs to go.

TEs: Pope
-I like what Pope has done and if Ryan is gone I'll be happy

OL: Albert, Waters, Smith, O'Callahan
-Waters I listed only because it seems like he's gotten better the past few weeks and he made that big hustle play on the fumble recovery against Oakland. I am with the majority, I'd like to see free agents and draft picks in the range of rounds 2 to 5. Need atleast 3 to 4 guys to compete for starting spots.

DL: Dorsey, Jackson, Magee, Gilberry, Edwards
-definetly need a NT to start or rotation with eye on starting

OLB: Hali, Studebaker, Vrabel
-I'd like to see a high pick here (2nd) and looks in free agency

ILB: Williams, Mays, Belcher
-I'm actually ok with this group right now. Lots of holes to fill so free agency or late round pick

CB: Flowers, Carr, Leggett
-work free agency for depth. I like the youth/talent here.

S: Page, McGraw
-I definetly want a major upgrade/impact player here. spend the high first if neccessary and it sounds like the talent and our need might match this draft with Mays or Berry.

ST: Colquitt, Succop
-Other than someone to help return and take pressure off Charles I think the roster is solid here.

ChiefsCountry 11-25-2009 04:36 PM

I know its early but 2011 is looking like an offensive draft on terms of talent especially at WR and RB. These drafts have been setting up perfect for the Chiefs in terms of building a team, I hope they actually follow the talent right this year unlike last year.

Direckshun 11-25-2009 05:51 PM

Nooooooooo no no no no. This draft is actually pretty pathetic with WRs.

Lots of guys can stick around as long as they don't start anymore. LMAO

OFFENSE

RB's

#1 starter - ???
Charles - 3rd down back/special teamer
Savage - backup special teamer

QB
Starter - cassel
backup - Croyle
3rd - should be rotating guys looking for our stud QBoTF each year

Oline
Albert - starting somewhere
Niswanger - backup/utility guy so we can try him at guard
Wade - backup/utility
alleman - backup (can't stay healthy)
O'callaghan - undecided, but he can stick around and compete for time
Richardson - backup/developing

WR's
#1 - ???
#2 - Bowe
#3 - Chambers
#4 - Long (special teamer)
#5 - Bradley (meh, we should be striving to replace him each year)

Tightends
#1 - ???
#2 - Ryan - backup/special teamer
#4 - pope - backup

DEFENSE

Dline
Dorsey - Starter
Edwards - backup
Jackson - starter
Magee - backup
Gilberry - special teamer

LB's -
Hali - starter (hopefully shifted to the other side to make room for stud rusher)
Mays - backup
Demorrio williams - backup
Belcher - backup/special teamer/developmental
Walters - special teamer/developmental

CB's
Flowers - starter
Carr - starter (i would prefer the nickle or safety if we can find an upgrade)
Daniels - backup/special teams

Safety
Jarrad Page - starter (for now)

kicker/punter/long snapper
-
Colquitt
succop
Gafford

RedThat 11-25-2009 07:04 PM

whew thats a lot to think of, well for starters Id say:

QB: Cassel
RB: hmmm...the jury is still out on Charles, if he is not a starter, I do think he will be an excellent role player
FB: ?---could use a starter here
WR: Bowe
WR: Chambers...I think the Chiefs could get at least 2 years out of him
TE: ?---could use a starter here
LT: ?---not sure about Albert, jury is still out
LG: ?---could use a starter here
C: ?---could use a starter here
RG:?---could use a starter here
RT:?---could use a starter here

DE: Dorsey
NT:?---could use a starter here
DE: jackson
OLB:?---Im for keeping Hali, but if the Chiefs decided to upgrade there I wouldn't mind
ILB:?---could use a starter there
ILB:?---could use a starter there
OLB:? jury is out on Studebaker
CB:Flowers
CB:Carr
FS:?---could use a starter there
SS:?---could use a starter there
K:Succop
P:Colquitt
LS:Gafford

For depth/special teams:

QB: Croyle, Guitterez
RB: K.Smith, Savage
WR: L. Long---I think he could develop into a good role player
TE: Pope---I think he would make a decent backup. His blocking is better then Ryans
OL: W.Smith, O'Callaghan, Ndukwe, Richardson, C. Brown
DL: McGee---The times hes played, hes looked good..Ron Edwards is good for depth
OLB: Walters
ILB:Belcher---good special teamer
CB: Daniels, leggett, Washington
FS:Morgan---still think he's a bit of a project, but he's got something...he may be worth keeping
SS:McGraw---He convinced me he should be on the team. Could be a good role player. But I think he is better fitted to be a strong safety

*Get rid of the dead weight...cut vrabel, dj, get rid of Waters, Mike Brown, Demorrio Williams, Mike Cox, Mike Goff, Rudy Niswanger, Jarrad Page, Bobby Wade, mark Bradley, Sean Ryan, Brad Cottom.

*The team has done a solid job addressing the special teams units and solidifying depth on the roster. I see a whole handful of guys who are capable of being good role players...They just have to find starters. Thats gonna be the challenging part. But yeah addressing the special teams, having good depth, and if they could finish the season off strong, I'd say its a good start as far as rebuilding goes.

RedThat 11-25-2009 07:14 PM

And to think even more on the bright side,

even if they do address positions that are not exactly of need..,i.e, RB, WR, OLB, DE, etc...The good news is I do see a whole handful of guys who are not only potential role players, but can also push for a starting jobs..Guys like Charles, Lance Long, McGee, Studebaker, Hali...Even if these guys are not starters they'd be great role players imo.
