Rollllll Tide.

having said that....Florida looks very good.
McElroy better get ready and play better than he's played the entire season.

Looking forward to watching Ingrham and McClain; maybe Areanas can tilt the game with a few big returns.

IMO, McElroy is the reason Florida is better than Alabama. Julio Jones is awesome, Ingram is a beast, the D is stout.. but IMO McElroy is garbage.

I think Florida will probably crush 'Bama. I will root against them though. If Alabama wins, I am going to slice my nipples and make a grilled Fritz Nipples ceaser salad with feta cheese in celebration.

Missing dunlap could hurt a little but knowing florida they just roll out another 4-5 star recruit sitting on the bench and he has a monster game.

Of course it hurts to not have Dunlap on the field, but thankfully we have a lot of depth. Hopefully Justin Trattou steps up on Saturday.

agree. I haven't liked him all season. He's average at best, with a few nice throws/games. But he didn't look good against Auburn, Miss St, or Ole Miss.

Honestly, I would love to see TCU in the NC game. So it doesn't bother me who (FLA or ALA) lose, since one of them will be.

I just hope that Texas will lose.

You really have to hand it to Cincy going undefeated with their backup QB most of the year. If McCoy or Tebow went down, they aren't going undefeated.

I disagree, Floridas backup is probably more of an NFL QB and Florida would beat all those teams Cincy played.

Maybe, maybe not. Florida's backup QB, John Brantley, is outstanding and is a better pure QB than Tebow. The kid has an NFL arm with great accuracy and it's not like he's wet behind the ears being a RS sophomore.

Additionally, the level of competition Cincy plays is different from Florida's schedule.

Patterson signs extension through 2016
By Richard Durrett
ESPNDallas.com

FORT WORTH, Texas -- On a day when Gary Patterson received a contract extension through 2016, the TCU coach stated that the Horned Frogs can win a national championship despite not being in a BCS conference.

And he believes they can do so without a playoff system.

Patterson, whose contract includes salary increases for his assistants, maintains that he's in favor of the bowl games and not a playoff system.

"Is it easier to win one game for a championship? Or to have to win four?" Patterson asked. "If you have a playoff, you practice and get on a plane and play. And if you lose, it's over. If you go to a bowl game, you're there seven days and the kids can enjoy a place and get rewarded."

Patterson noted there's still a chance his 12-0 team -- TCU's first undefeated squad since 1938 -- could play for a national title this season. For that to happen, No. 4 TCU would need Nebraska to upset No. 3 Texas in the Big 12 championship Saturday at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

Then, the Horned Frogs would need the BCS formula to work in their favor.

"We had a vision nine years ago of reaching a BCS bowl and going to a national championship," said Patterson, who is 85-27 after completing his ninth season. "A lot of people laughed and shook their heads and said, 'Well, that's nice.' We're now crossing that threshold.

"We feel like we're very blessed. I do not feel like our work is done. We still have a mountain to climb, a championship to win."

Patterson, who has led TCU to five 11-win seasons in the past seven years, believes that playing for a national title is as much about reputation as anything.

"You have to show that you can play with everybody consistently," he said. "You have to establish you can do it every year."

Last season, TCU finished No. 7 in The Associated Press and USA Today polls, the highest-ranked two-loss team in the nation. If the Frogs win a BCS bowl this season, they could begin 2010 in the top five.

That means fewer teams to leapfrog on the way to a possible BCS national championship berth. TCU started this season 17th in both polls.

Patterson said even though TCU is not in a BCS conference, the program is gaining national respect and is proving it can play in the big games.

"Ninety percent of the teams [in the BCS] don't have an opportunity to win a national championship," Patterson said. "It's the same 10 teams. We've now gone to a BCS over 80 percent of the Big 12, 80 percent of the SEC, 80 percent of the Big Ten. We've achieved something that all those other teams talk about because they are part of a conference that can get there. We've now jumped over a hurdle by going to a BCS game."

Patterson quickly said a BCS bowl wasn't official, as bowl pairings will be announced Sunday.

"We're going into houses and everyone knows about TCU," Patterson said.

"The only thing that was held over our heads was we couldn't play in a BCS game or play for a national championship."

Patterson believes strongly that isn't the case anymore.

I think similar to last year. Both teams have outstanding defenses, best in the country. Both have strong special teams and run-oriented offenses. Bama has a premier WR but otherwise not many weapons in the passing game. I think the big difference is, IMO, Bama's QB is garbage. I see it staying close and Florida winning by 10-14 points, like last year (31-20).

Hopefully it will be closer than that. I see a big play on ST or D making a difference today. I'm primed to see a good game and to see what both coaches have for a gameplan. I'll be watching to see what each coach does for adjustments as well.

Enjoy what should be the National Championship game. I'll be at a wedding today so we'll be watching from the cocktail hour and then the reception (tons of Gator fans in attendance). Win or lose we'll be drunk, so that's a plus.

I already have airline tickets and hotel booked for Pasadena so I'll know later today whether I'll be there or somewhere else on vacation. I'm ready to find out!

Somebody booked a wedding on the day of the SEC championship game? I thought that was illegal south of the Mason-Dixon?
Have a good time. Pasadena is a nice place to hang if you guys make it there. I'll be watching tomorrow to see if I will need to leave Phoenix to see my Hawkeyes in their bowl game.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. They originally booked it for next weekend but the hotel "double booked" and they moved it to SEC Championship weekend instead of moving the wedding to January! WTF! :cuss: Oh well, it'll bring good memories for them if Florida wins.

Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech/Clemson winner vs. Texas
Fiesta Bowl: Nebraska vs. Boise State

I am looking forward to catching as much of the Cincinnati/Pitt game as I can. I have been impressed with the Mardy Gilyard footage I have seen online, but have not had the chance of seeing him play live this year. From what I have seen I would be ecstatic if the Chiefs were able to land him in the third round.

DrRyan 12-05-2009 11:19 AM

Freshman Dion Lewis is looking very impressive for Pitt on their opening drive. I am not ready to compare him to Barry Sanders as Matt Millen is doing though.

Edit: Lewis touched the ball on all 12 plays of Pitt's opening scoring drive. The kid is impressive for a freshman.

I know Iowa needs Texas to win in order to be invited to a BCS game. Do the Hawkeyes also need Cincinnati to win? Or would Cincinnati fall out of the BCS altogether with a loss?

He's been ridiculously overhyped this year. He should have put it all together and had a monster campaign.

9/05 Northern Iowa 1-0 (0-0) W 17-16
9/26 @ No. 5 Penn State 4-0 (1-0) W 21-10
10/03 Arkansas State 5-0 (1-0) W 24-21

11/14 @ No. 11 Ohio State 9-2 (5-2) L 27-24 OT
11/21 Minnesota 10-2 (6-2) W 12-0

That is what's wrong with Iowa. Okay, so they don't blow out schools (not even Northern Iowa or Arkansas State!)... They jumped 20 spots in the polls because they beat PSU, who has 2 fairly impressive wins in the past 3 years (both last year against Big 10 schools) and has no reason being in the top 20.

Besides PSU, they're propped up because the media sees the Big 10 as a "tough, deep conference" as opposed to what it really is: incredibly mediocre.

And I don't get your 12-0 remark, since they have 2 losses?

That is what's wrong with Iowa. Okay, so they don't blow out schools (not even Northern Iowa or Arkansas State!)... They jumped 20 spots in the polls because they beat PSU, who has 2 fairly impressive wins in the past 3 years (both last year against Big 10 schools) and has no reason being in the top 20.

Besides PSU, they're propped up because the media sees the Big 10 as a "tough, deep conference" as opposed to what it really is: incredibly mediocre.

And I don't get your 12-0 remark, since they have 2 losses?

So who do you put in instead?

Touchdown, but missed the XP.

That could be huge.

Late hit?

Cincy ties it up, good stuff.

If this happens...

BCS Championship Game: Florida/Bama winner vs. Texas
Rose Bowl: ohio state vs. Oregon
Sugar Bowl: Florida/Bama loser vs. TCU
Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech/Clemson winner vs. Cincinnati/Pitt winner
Fiesta Bowl: [someone] vs Boise St

If Pittsburgh wins, they'll have as many quality wins as Iowa (and I'm counting PSU as quality based on rankings, just like Cincy).
If Georgia Tech loses, they'll still have as many quality wins as Iowa (and the ACC sucks, but still... PSU).
VTech gave Bama a game, beat Nebraska, and beat Miami, but it would be a 2007 Kansas type of thing if they got a BCS spot.

After that, it obviously gets harder to justify a BCS spot, even if it's over Iowa, and unfortunately a team like LSU can't get in... not that they're great, but still.
