The team is scheduled to be told at a meeting Thursday evening. Athletic director Lew Perkins launched an investigation into Mangino's treatment of players three weeks ago. The Jayhawks won the first five games of the season before going on a seven-game losing streak. Mangino was 50-48 in eight years -- two wins shy of the school record for a coach. After going 12-1 in 2007 and winning the Orange Bowl, Mangino was given a raise and a contract extension through 2012. |

This is a real shocker.

Just came home, turned on the TV, and wrote what I heard from Neal Jones.... Supposedly, he felt, there was an unexpected meeting. His words, I just carried them over.
|
KC Star reporting it too.

2 wins away from tying the winning-est head coach in KU football history.

He always lost to Snyder like a gentleman, so I'll miss him.

Sounds like Briscoe is gone.

I mean, He knew all along what was going on. But I guess you can't fault the guy too much. As long as the team was winning, Mangino had him by the balls. The fan base would have crucified him if he'd done anything sooner. The contract extension though... that's tough to defend. |

This is a foregone conclusion, but the whole ****ing mess is a bad deal for KU. Seriously, who is going to want to coach KU football if you get fired for poking a kid in the chest?
Someone is going to get a hell of a good coach in Mangino. |
I don't think any KU fans were banking on Briscoe coming back anyway. It was a foregone conclusion. I hope he shows deceptive speed at the combine to get him into the 2nd round.
|
Sounds like it was a lot more and a lot worse than just poking a kid in the chest.

The End of an Era.
Those 2.5 years of KU football relevance was AWESOME!!!11 |

I think after all that's come out, KU's better off without him. |
Damn, now all we got are Lion and Cheeta Woods jokes.

Found an article with some candidates.
"Possible candidates include Texas A&M offensive coordinator Nolan Cromwell, a great wishbone quarterback at Kansas in the mid-70s, Houston coach Kevin Sumlin and Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen" http://www.hdnews.net/Story/Mangino120309 |
Quote:
-Randy Esdall - UCONN Head Coach I believe Lew Perkins originally hired him at UCONN and he's supposed to be a potentially hot commodity right now. -Kevin Sumlin - Houston Head Coach -Brent Venables - OU Associate Head Coach/ Def. Coordinator/ LBers Coach Harbaugh wouldn't be a bad choice either assuming he would agree to leave Stanford, which I don't really see him doing. |
I'm waiting for the move Mangino to center thread.

I wonder if Mangino will end up getting another head coaching job after all of this.
