<!-- end mod-article-title --> <!-- begin story body --> Mark Mangino will not return as Kansas football coach, a source close to the situation told Joe Schad of ESPN Thursday night.
The team is scheduled to be told at a meeting Thursday evening.
Athletic director Lew Perkins launched an investigation into Mangino's treatment of players three weeks ago. The Jayhawks won the first five games of the season before going on a seven-game losing streak. Mangino was 50-48 in eight years -- two wins shy of the school record for a coach.
After going 12-1 in 2007 and winning the Orange Bowl, Mangino was given a raise and a contract extension through 2012.

Your thread will and should get more attention however, since your title wasn't cryptic and cuts to the chase.

Just came home, turned on the TV, and wrote what I heard from Neal Jones.... Supposedly, he felt, there was an unexpected meeting. His words, I just carried them over.

Yeah, once Kansas hires an aesthetically pleasing head coach, you'll all have to go back to bashing other things, like on field performance... ha!

You're right, it is pretty much all the same... doesn't matter if it's KU, KSU, Mizzou, the Chiefs, CP jokes, whatever, 90% of it is recycled stuff that may or may not have been funny the first time, or the first 100 times.

Hell, I got tired of the "Imma let you finish" the day after it happened, and just saw someone use it on Twitter today.

That's on Perkins, isn't it?

I mean, He knew all along what was going on. But I guess you can't fault the guy too much.

As long as the team was winning, Mangino had him by the balls. The fan base would have crucified him if he'd done anything sooner.

The contract extension though... that's tough to defend.

This is a foregone conclusion, but the whole ****ing mess is a bad deal for KU. Seriously, who is going to want to coach KU football if you get fired for poking a kid in the chest?

Someone is going to get a hell of a good coach in Mangino.

BWillie 12-03-2009 09:20 PM

I don't think any KU fans were banking on Briscoe coming back anyway. It was a foregone conclusion. I hope he shows deceptive speed at the combine to get him into the 2nd round.

Lzen 12-03-2009 09:21 PM

When ESPN broke the story earlier this evening I happened to catch it and the college football analyst (I can't remember who it was to be honest) threw a few names out there as potential replacements for Mangino:

-Randy Esdall - UCONN Head Coach
I believe Lew Perkins originally hired him at UCONN and he's supposed to be a potentially hot commodity right now.

-Kevin Sumlin - Houston Head Coach

-Brent Venables - OU Associate Head Coach/ Def. Coordinator/ LBers Coach

Harbaugh wouldn't be a bad choice either assuming he would agree to leave Stanford, which I don't really see him doing.

I'd be willing to bet he does at some point. I strongly do not feel he'll get that opportunity right away though. I think he'll have to prove himself all over again at least to a certain extent, that's for sure.
