While in Oklahoma over the holidays we went to a little Mexican joint and I decided to order their Monster Margarita,the following is the pic my nephew snapped when the waiter brought it to the table.I might add it was damn tasty.

There's a place on The Hill in STL (the Italian neighborhood) that serves beer in frozen fishbowl glasses that size.

Only one and got a helluva good buzz.Nephew drove us back to the house and I started on beer,slept like a baby that night.

Agree on the color. Can't stand when I get a marg, and it's lime green. They should be either gold/orange in color (anejo) or close to clear (silver or reposado). Lime green means pre-mixed.

I got pretty buzzed that night,all I can tell you is they tasted a lot like the VIP ones you and I had in Vegas.

You'd be surprised how far a guy's standards can fall after drinking a half dozen of those things.

Nzoner, if you know Grove, OK you should know Jay as well...I went to school there a bit as a kid and have many relatives living in that area. My cousin's son was killed there, over Christmas this year, as the pickup he was in rolled. One car accident that killed two and seriously injured two others. You probably heard it on the local news there. It was a hell of a storm there over the holidays. I was stranded in Vernon TX for two days trying to get to Dallas for Xmas, from that same storm system. So we spent Xmas in Vernon instead. Nice people there. Anyway, its nice to see someone who knows where that little piece of OK is.

So sorry for your loss.

As for Grove,I've got family that own property on Grand Lake and have only been there twice,unfortunately my most recent visit was during the storm which you mentioned.

I miss the margaritas and tex mex of OK and TX. That was the greatest thing about living there....that and on days like these when I've shoveled myself out of the driveway I might miss the TX weather.

Thank you Nzoner. Jay is about 10 miles from Grove. I didn't really know my cousins boy too much. My cousin adopted him when he was 4 and he was 21 when the accident occurred. I have many great memories of Grand Lake...Might have even met one of your kin down there without knowing it. Enjoy. :toast:

Jilly, it was not that good over the holidays. Roads closed for black ice and a blizzard in Wichita Falls (I was about 25 miles from there and had to turn back after finding the road (Interstate 287) had been closed for the last 7 hours. But mostly yeah, nice weather usually.

Do you prefer your margaritas frozen or blended?

The best one I ever had was at a San Antonio mexican place. Frozen. It was like candy, but packed with alcohol. I don't know how they did it.

OK has more of it, but the thing about bad weather in TX is it's so fleeting. One day it snows and the next day it's gone.

The problem with frozen (other than the fact that they're for pussies), is that they are very often from a machine. That means that it's pre-mixed. That means that it's inferior to a hand crafted cocktail.

Actually, there are people who like their cocktails to mask the flavor/presence of the alcohol and there are people who like their cocktails to enhance and highlight the flavor of their cocktails. I'm firmly in the latter. My preferred cocktails are usually things like maker's on the rocks, scotch neat, or martinis. I like to taste my booze (probably too much). I think that frozen drinks are intended to hide the presence of the booze. That's not what I want out of a drink.

I tried giving my vagina a frozen drink once.

Rigazzi's famous for those. haven't been since they had a fire few years ago.

I don't have much a preference either way. At Carlos O'Kelly's, the half price are blended, so that's what I get.

Oh my God that is too Funny. I have a lake place about a mile from there. I eat there about once a month. Make sure you order the Gold Margaritas and anything made with
Chicken off the menu. I have said that they need to change the name of them to simply " This shit will **** you up". There is another place in Grove that is nicer as far as ambiance on the main drag down town but for the money this place is great. The German restaurant down the street is also very good.

Speaking of Grove my Aunt and Uncle have a place there and most recently my mrs and her sis and hubby got a place there,maybe we'll have to get together for a Gold Monster Marg someday.
