Ultimate Madden

Anyone download this yet? Pretty fun.

I dislike the contract thing with the player cards. If you got the player, you should keep him? I got Harrison from the special deals on the PS3 and he's racked up tons of yards online for me against defenses. (Jamaal Charles and Derrick Johnson will be released cards soon, which I thought was cool.)

I got a contract card and added it to Harrison, but he only has four games left, which is stupid.

Overall, pretty fun. Especially since players are forced to BUILD a team rather than go and select the Patriots, Saints, Colts, etc.

I'm guessing you haven't heard. I just discovered this today when I turned on my PS3.

Your being given football cards of players. All players are consisted of backups. The only Chiefs player I have is CB Mike Richardson. At the start, you are given a free set of cards. I also got former Chiefs, Michael Bennett (pretty damn good against backups) and Jordan Black.

No one will receive a Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Jared Allen, Brett Favre, or Randy Moss type of card at the beginning. You are also given an offensive and defensive playbook, along with a home stadium, away and home jerseys and a head coach (I was unfortunate enough to get Tom Cable, but the 49ers playbook has been good for me.)

Once you have the football cards you have to win games. If you play online against other real players and win and perform well, you'll get lots of coins, depending on how well you do.

You can use the coins to buy a set of cards. You can also spend them on "special offers." The first special offer release is Jerome Harrison for his monster game VS KC. I had enough coins to buy him (his rating on Ultimate Madden is a 98) with a high speed. Since most teams have crappy players on defense, I was able to rush for over 400 yards with Harrison recently against another Ultimate Madden team. There are only 162 cards of Harrison remaining on the PS3 version. Jamaal Charles will be the next "special offer" card for his performance vs Denver. His card is worth 1000 coins. Derrick Johnson will be a week after Charles for his week 17 MVP performance (which is what the description says for DJ.) A week after DJ, Brian Cushing comes out for his DROY. After him, it's Percy Harvin for his OROY.

Pretty fun overall. Like I said earlier, I just hate the contracts.

MMXcalibur 01-07-2010 03:42 PM

Yeah, I'm lost too. What the hell is "Ultimate Madden"?

Farzin 01-07-2010 03:43 PM

Here is a better description..

Do you only get coins for winning games against online opponents?

Does the game cost anything to start?

Buck 01-07-2010 03:52 PM

They did the same thing with FIFA 09 I remember.

You'll get a couple hundred if you win. Thanks for Harrison, I haven't lost. You can play online or against the CPU. But if you defeat the CPU on the easiest level, you will not receive as much points. The more points you win by, the more coins you will receive after a win. I won my most recent game by 45 points. Giving me 400+ coins.

The game does not cost anything to get started, but if you want to improve your team ASAP, you can spend real money.

I just discovered you can sell your cards. I searched to see if any Chiefs were available. Tons of people are selling their Todd Haley cards. LJ (who is still considered a Chief) has been on sale by a lot of people. Other players can bid on the cards. I saw an LJ card go for 1000 coins. Even though LJ's speed sucks on the game, he'll dominate against most teams right now since everyone has a defense that consists of backups. I played one person early who had Maurice Leggett and Andy Studebaker on his team.

When you play against the computer.....are you playing against actual NFL teams or are they backups like a real player would have?

You will play against real teams. Ex. The Chiefs will have Cassel/Charles/Chambers, etc. But for some reason, Dwayne Bowe and Leonard Pope are both 82...

On a side note, I hate how you are given a separate home, separate away, and a separate home stadium. I just played against someone who had a Chiefs home jersey and his home stadium was the Raiders.

Same for the coaching--If I have Tom Cable, let me have the Raiders offensive/defensive playbook.

I was really surprised I didn't see a thread on this. I'm curious to know what other people think of the contracts. I can only play Jerome Harrison for only four more games. My backups all have an eight game contract left. I bought a new set of cards and those players have 12 game contracts. Pretty stupid. I never knew the previous Madden games had this feature, so I'm new to this.

Farzin 01-07-2010 04:10 PM

Also, you won't have a lot of players early on to fill up 53 players. Some of my offensive players came in to play defensive back. Michael Bennett even got me an interception. But as I got more coins, I got another set of cards, giving me more defensive players.

The Franchise 01-07-2010 04:58 PM

How many cards do you get to start off?

How many cards come in a "pack" and how many coins does each pack cost?

DBOSHO 01-07-2010 05:12 PM

This sounds fun but where do you get it? Is it an add on for madden? And is it only on ps3?

DBOSHO 01-07-2010 05:18 PM

Nm found it

I inserted my Madden 10 disc, and an update alert popped up. After I let my PS3 do the update, I went on Madden's main screen and noticed "Ultimate Madden" was an option. I believe it is also on the 360.

1. I'll re-edit this and double check if I'm wrong, but you start off with 35 cards. That includes a head coach, jerseys and play books (all are separate.) Chances are, you will have wide receivers play defensive back and vice versa. I recently discovered an "injury card." If your player gets injured, he will stay injured for however long he will need to sit out for. You can get him back on the field by powering him up with the injury card. My guess is that puts the player back on the field immediately.

EDIT: I got a silver pack..pretty BS. I got a couple good players who have an overall around the 73s .. ten I got playbooks and jerseys. I wonder what you get for 9000 coins, or $3? I would be afraid to do that..

2. There are different types of packs, each go by ranking.

You can spend 500 on the bronze pack, 1500 on the silver pack, 3000 on the gold pack and 9000 on the platinum pack.

You can spend real money if you want to on those packs. 25 cents for bronze, 50 cents for silver, 99 cents for gold and 2.99 for platinum.

Also, your only allowed 100 cards total at once, I believe. You can have 53 while playing, the others are basically your "practice squad" except its a "47 man practice squad" .. if that makes sense.

Another good thing to share--I opened a total of two packs so far. I have three kicker cards. Two Lawrence Tynes and one Shaun Suisham. I believe each pack comes out with at least a kicker, so it would be in your best interest to discard the card and gain coins, unless someone is stupid enough to bid coins on a kicker, place them on an auction list.

This is Madden, fantasy football with NFL Europe type of players, card collecting and eBay all in one.

DBOSHO 01-07-2010 05:44 PM

I mightve gotten the same team as you lol.

I got richardson and bennett as well

i also got the chiefs away jerseys and their defensive playbook

Haha. Let me know when you get two Lawrence Tynes haha.

Normally, I don't spend real money for online games much, other than xbox live. But this is quite cheap, so I would not mind spending a little bit on this. It's pretty fun and it makes you feel like your an NFL GM/coach. Kudos to EA on this one.

DBOSHO 01-07-2010 06:16 PM

Lmao im making richardson into a shutdown corner. He had 3 picks in the first game.

Db coach in the making

Sounds like they are taking a cue from Zynga on their game styles.. So you have to pay for the game, then pay more if you want to be great faster.. Or cheat the system.. Create a fake online account and lose on purpose to yourself..

That would require at least two 360's or PS3's....

Farzin 01-07-2010 07:37 PM

Man, part of me does not want to play this game, just so I can keep Harrison. I think the contract rule is pretty stupid. I know I've been complaining about this, but there are supposedly only 300 Harrison cards. Eventually, they'll all run out...

ChiefsRoyalsMizzou 01-07-2010 09:29 PM

lol im 2-0 but my team rating is like 65

Farzin 01-07-2010 09:35 PM

Tom Brady is now available to unlock. I can guarantee one thing, once Derrick Johnson and Brian Cushing are available, tons of people will go after them.

To be honest, this is a pretty cool feature for the most part. Enjoyed playing this on my day off.

My friends have better things to do, probably work on their own games online..

But if someone is that desperate and want to create multiple accounts to cheat themselves through, well, its their call.
