Chan Gailey next Bills head coach

Wow

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ls-head-coach/

We have a new leader in the clubhouse to be the next Bills head coach.

Jay Glazer of Fox reports that Chan Gailey is expected to meet with the Bills for a second time in the next 24-48 hours. Barring a breakdown in talks, he's expected to be named the coach.

Wow. Gailey secretly met with the Bills last week.

More on this story in a few minutes.

TigerPig 01-18-2010 04:27 PM

The deal is done.

kcxiv 01-18-2010 04:28 PM

nice Chan. I didnt expect that

Deberg_1990 01-18-2010 04:28 PM

Wow.....It must really suck to be a Bills fan these days...

Marv Levy, Thurman Thomas and Jim Kelly seem like a few ice ages ago.....

Mr. Flopnuts 01-18-2010 04:29 PM

Good for him. I wish him luck.

RedThat 01-18-2010 04:29 PM

Wow. That was unexpected. It'll be interesting to see how he does his second time around.

Smed1065 01-18-2010 04:29 PM

Wowser. I wish him luck.

dirk digler 01-18-2010 04:29 PM

How desperate are the Bills and\or how cheap are the Bills?

KCrockaholic 01-18-2010 04:30 PM

Tough. I don't think this is a move the Bills should be excited about at all. But it is better than Mike Solari.

kstater 01-18-2010 04:31 PM

Another great talent that Pioli's ego let get away.

JD10367 01-18-2010 04:31 PM

He'll have a good season, then they'll announce the team is moving and it'll go down the toilet, and the fans will blame Chan for everything. Oh, no, wait, that was Belichick and the Browns. :D

Deberg_1990 01-18-2010 04:32 PM

Are the Chiefs still paying him?

RealSNR 01-18-2010 04:32 PM

Hey, look. A coordinator with former NFL head coaching experience.

This hire is Dick Jauron part deux

LaChapelle 01-18-2010 04:35 PM

Is Herm the next GM

I'll bet those Bills fans have developed a severe case of Chiefs Envy since those guys were playing in Buffalo. We have been on a real roll since then.

Sure-Oz 01-18-2010 04:45 PM

Wow, very surprising...

Why be so quick to jump the gun and judge? Its better to wait it out and see how he does before making such predictions. Sorry SNR.

Sure-Oz 01-18-2010 04:49 PM

I expect thiggy to get traded for a 2nd round pick to buffallo now

Marcellus 01-18-2010 04:50 PM

Must be nice being the 4th or 5th choice when the others all turn down the offer.

I do believe we can quit paying him when the Bills start paying him.

Ummm, he has already been a failed head coach, in Dallas. No need to wait.

Icon 01-18-2010 04:51 PM

I'm glad Chan is getting another chance to be a HC. He seems like a class act. That said, I'm not sure I'd want to coach in Buffalo.

Nah can't see the dolphins dealing w/ the Bills. That would be like the Chiefs and/or Raiders or Broncos dealing with each other. Divisional trades are a rarity nowadays.

I'm referring to his head coaching stint in Dallas.

Al Saunders is in the same boat. Some guys just aren't head coaches.

Another failed hire.

Hammock Parties 01-18-2010 05:20 PM

It will be embarrassing if Gailey turns the Bills around and the Chiefs stink.

jettio 01-18-2010 05:23 PM

If Chan, or whoever gets that job, makes the Bills a good team, that would be a great accomplishment since the other AFC East teams look like they are going to be solid for the next several years.

Gailey's going to need some serious help to make that happen. For starters, a quarterback.

I don't know why they don't just wait and hire Leslie Frazier.

awesome

From Dick Jauron to....this?ROFL

Micjones 01-18-2010 06:03 PM

Now everybody can stop crying over him.
If he'd coordinated the Chiefs offense this season he might not be in this position.

Good for him. I hope it works out.

I hope he does well for himself!

I'm happy for Gaily, but IMO he's one of these guys that's better suited for an OC position rather than a HC, much like Norv Turner.

DaWolf 01-18-2010 06:25 PM

Considering he couldn't do much at Georgia Tech either, this is surprising to me.

Guess that's what happens when you have a 70 year old GM and a 100 year old owner...

Good luck to Chan, but talk about Dick Juron part two? I'm sorry, but this has fail written all over it. As mentioned many of times with Chan... some guys aren't meant to be Head Coach.

If I was them, I would already be on the phone with Mike Nolan for DC and hire a OC that would mesh well with Gailey. Let Nolan have the defense and let him focus on the offense. That is how SD has been able to be good even though Norv inst too good a HC.

They also have Brohm, but yeah, point still stands.

Friends in Buffalo say there are rumors they could go after Vick to play QB. Might be a good gamble for Vick if he wants to start again, and Gailey would get his mobile QB.

That is a very good point. I could see Vick landing in Buffalo. Gaily should be able to do wonders with Vick, and add Fred Jackson to the mix, they may be on to something.

Interesting. Gaily was the only guy who ever got decent production out of Korell Stewart at QB.

Like he was even given a chance in Dallas. Jones is even on record stating that he made a mistake getting rid of Gailey so quick. Besides, there are plenty of guys that just arent head coaches that keep getting shots. Hell Norv Turner certainly fits that description, and not only has he had 3 head coaching jobs, he just got an extension. I would take Gailey over Turner, or Wade Philips any day of the week.

BossChief 01-19-2010 11:20 AM

Wouldnt it be something if Chan and Nolan paired to win a championship in Buffalo?

I guess you missed the part of Nolan going to the Dolphins.

And I'd put the possibility of Chan Gailey going to a Super Bowl at 0.0%

I knew that he wanted to interview for their job and that was the reason he essentially quit, but I didnt know he had already signed there.

I wasnt saying it would happen, just that it would be kinda funny to have 2 coordinators that us and denver couldnt make work with our head coaches and to have them win elsewhere.

Nolan took Denver from one of the worst defenses to #7 in one year... how did he not make it work?

Enh, it's a deceiving stat... much like the 6-0 start was deceiving.

After the bye week, the defense and the team fell apart.

Denver did rank:

7th in yards allowed (315 ypg) compared to 29th in 2008 with 374.6 ypg
12th in PA (20.2 PA) compared to 30th in 2008 with 28 PA

Yes, overall they improved, but the final 10 games were more like 2008.

My argument would be - who cares? Nolan was working with scraps on the defensive line. It was year one of a total defensive overhaul...he did a good job on short notice and deserved another year to see if he could take it to the next level.

McDaniels should fire himself....his offense was shit.

He was handed a secondary that basically had an average age in the mid 30's and an undersized DL.

Shocked, absolutely shocked, I tell you that the defense fell apart.

I don't know that I'd ever want Gailey as a HC, but as an OC, he's gotten more production out of crap than a lot of the more highly touted offensive minds out there.

He's a bit too conservative for me, but the fact remains, he's a pretty effective OC.

Go ahead and talk to Buck about Norv Turner. I can't even begin to describe how bad of a coach he is.

Gailey's better than Turner and Philips? WOW!!!! WHAT A GREAT COACH!

For what it's worth, I can name several coaches that would be better than those two. I can also name better coaching candidates out there than Chan ****ing Gailey.

Leslie Frazier, for one, who as far as I know, did not turn down an interview with the Bills

Obviously, you didnt read what I was responding to. It was stated that Gailey didnt deserve another shot at head coaching. I was merely pointing out a couple of piss poor coaches that have had 3 head coaching jobs.
