Walter Football 4 Round Mock Has the Chiefs Selecting...

Berry goes 6th, FWIW.

What I would have done:

1) Berry
2a) Spikes
2b) Pouncey
3) Kindle
4) Ciron Black

http://walterfootball.com/images/fball/chiefsb_logo.gif Kansas City Chiefs: Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State http://walterfootball.com/college/Ok...State_logo.gif
Branden Albert improved over the season and was pretty flawless in the final month. But I'm not convinced that he's a franchise left tackle. There's a chance that he could be, but I don't think anyone can seriously say that he's a lock to be one.

Scott Pioli invested $63 million into the noodle-armed Matt Cassel. He can't afford to have Cassel sacked 42 times again next year.

Fortunately, Pioli, who is a big believer in positional value, can take Okung without sacrificing too much of his team's payroll into the left tackle position. Albert makes less than $1 million in each of the next two seasons, and was a guard at Virginia anyway.

Okung is the real deal. He could take the Chiefs' offense to the next level, though the team will ultimately struggle in the playoffs because of Cassel's limitations.

Eric Berry is the other option here, but it would go against everything Pioli believes in if he were to take a safety without having his offensive and defensive lines finished.

By the way, pretty cool stuff - Okung is currently ranked third in the DraftDebacled's Average NFL Draft Position - even higher than Berry. If you click on the names, you can read all of the mock draft analysis for that player and see the percentage of teams targeting each prospect. You can also create your own 2010 NFL Mock Draft to possibly have it listed in the 2010 NFL Mock Draft Database.

http://walterfootball.com/images/fball/chiefsb_logo.gif Kansas City Chiefs: Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida http://walterfootball.com/college/Florida_logo.gif
Inside linebackers like Rey Maualuga and James Laurinaitis have fallen into the second round before, so don't be surprised if Brandon Spikes takes a tumble as well.

For some reason, Todd Haley had a major problem with Derrick Johnson the entire year and started him for just three games. Even if Johnson is in the lineup next year, the Chiefs will need an upgrade at inside linebacker.

http://walterfootball.com/images/fball/chiefsb_logo.gif Kansas City Chiefs: Maurkice Pouncey, C/G, Florida http://walterfootball.com/college/Florida_logo.gif
Even when Kansas City's offensive line improved toward the end of the 2009 season, the center position was still a glaring weakness. Scott Pioli will continue to upgrade the trenches.

Pick change; previously Taylor Mays, SS

http://walterfootball.com/images/fball/chiefsb_logo.gif Kansas City Chiefs: Marshawn Gilyard, WR/KR, Cincinnati http://walterfootball.com/college/Cincinnati_logo.gif
The Chiefs need a slot receiver for their offense, and they might think Marshawn Gilyard would be a great fit for the system they run.

Pick change; previously Jordan Shipley, WR

http://walterfootball.com/images/fball/chiefsb_logo.gif Kansas City Chiefs: Darrell Stuckey, SS, Kansas http://walterfootball.com/college/Kansas_logo.gif
Remember when the Chiefs had a solid strong safety in Bernard Pollard? Hmm... I wonder what happened to him...

ToxSocks 01-21-2010 12:05 PM

I think he had it right initially with Shipley over Gilyard

KCrockaholic 01-21-2010 12:06 PM

Not bad at all. I like the Gilyard pick and I love the Florida picks. But I think I would rather go with Hamas' picks. Berry with our 1st is important if you ask me, if he is available.

tyton75 01-21-2010 12:07 PM

I'd rather have Shipley in the slot instead of Gilyard... guessing in the new Mock, Shipley is already gone?

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-21-2010 12:08 PM

Gilyard's a good player, but I'd rather have Sergio Kindle. I don't know if I'd want kind with our 2a pick, but anything past that is going to be good value.

That said, I expect his stock to vault after the combine.

KJROD20 01-21-2010 12:09 PM

If Spikes falls to KC, which it sounds like he will, I will jump for joy. He got some bad press for the eye gouging but he's a fantastic player. If he came out last year, he would have been top 10.

But why? Have you seen Gilyard play? He has tremendous speed and agility. Close to the likes of DeSean Jackson. I like Shipley. But he is not the talent of Gilyard.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-21-2010 12:09 PM

Here's the problem with Walter's analysis:

"Branden Albert improved over the season and was pretty much flawless the last month."

Well, given that he's a second year player who was working on technique and dealing w/ weight loss, wouldn't that lead you to believe that "flawless" is a pretty good indicator of his ability?

big nasty kcnut 01-21-2010 12:09 PM

I like the top pick we do need to get our offenseive line stronger

It's way too early to determine fallers man.

Kindle has some major character concerns. He was arrested several times, only to have the charges dropped.

Chiefnj2 01-21-2010 12:17 PM

I am 100% convinced that whoever does the mocks for them reads the Planet for info on the Chiefs.

Nightfyre 01-21-2010 12:19 PM

I prefer your spin on it, hamas. Although, truth to tell, I'd really prefer a trade down out of the top 5. I think taylor mays is better value between 10 and 15 than berry is at 5. Maybe we pick up another second in a deep draft. Meh. It will be what it will be.

I get the feeling that a lot of sites and people use ChiefsPlanet that we don't know about. I think we are secretly famous. If that makes any sense.

Here's the problem:

If we, with so few impact guys, are willing to trade down, who then is willing to trade up?

Really? If anything, he needed another year to recover from the manhandling he received from Alabama last year.

not bad, I would be content with this... I like Pouncey pick alot actually.

He would be a perfect fit as an OLB in our 3-4. I would say drafting Kindle in the 3rd would be worth the risk.

Marco Polo 01-21-2010 12:33 PM

Did he mention Chiefs and playoffs in the same sentence or am I dreaming?

He had one official DUI arrest last year and then this year he crashed into a building at 3:00 a.m. and left the scene of the accident, which isn't a crime in TX because it was only structural damage to the building. His attorney claimed he was "texting" and not drinking.

Well, I can't seem to find the link to the actual mock on my blackberry, but I would suggest that one of the QBs could tempt some teams.

The only real chance to trade back is if some team overvalues Bradford or Clausen, or McCoy is available. From everything I've read, the scouts think just as highly of McCoy as they do Suh.

KCUnited 01-21-2010 12:43 PM

In this scenerio I hope Denver and Marshall can't work it out and they take Bryant. I don't want to see Marshall and Mcclain twice a year.

Since we are using the Patriot offense... IMO.. Shipley would work perfectly in the slot... he's fast and tough

DaKCMan AP 01-21-2010 12:47 PM

Hopefully Tampa or Detroit will take an OT with their first pick to protect their 1st round QBs from last year's draft.

That would be Awesome, like DaKCMan AP.

Riley Cooper would fit well as a 5th or 6th round pick. He has great straight line speed and is an absolute beast of a run-blocking WR.

DeezNutz 01-21-2010 01:07 PM

I dislike their third-round pick because I'm really hopeful that we can get through all of our traditional day-one picks without selecting a single playmaker.

This should be our goal.

Titty Meat 01-21-2010 01:16 PM

Okung? JFC he's less physical than Jason Smith. I'd rather draft a guy like Vladmir Ducasse if he's there in the 2nd and play him at right tackle than waste a 1st round pick on an o-linemen.

Micjones 01-21-2010 01:18 PM

That's a pretty good mock.
I don't like the 5th overall selection though.
Definitely would've gone with Berry.

I know... instead of Gilyard maybe another lineman? :shake:

Boy Walter's wasn't saying that about Matt Cassel last season after he was traded.

That site is a joke and the guy who runs it is a douche. He never has a good thing to say Pioli. Pioli still needs to prove himself but "Walter" uses every chance he can get to bash Pioli. It's like Scott slept with his wife or something. And calling Cassel a noodle arm? I very seriously doubt that. Mark Sanchez certainly doesn't have the strongest arm and I've seen him struggle on deep throws in the limited times I have watched him yet I doubt you see this douche calling him a noodle arm. Cassel certainly won't be mistaken for a Cutler or Favre but he isn't anywhere close to Pennington either. Calling him a noodle arm is just another example of the trash that comes out of that website.
