Anybody jacked up to see.......
"The Who" perform at halftime? Although I am a huge 'classic rock fan' I never have been much of a 'Who fan' music wise.
I realize that the baby boomers are still the largest generation to appease along with the "Timberlake/Jackson" sexual assault show debacle a few yrs back and why the NFL just decided to stay with the "safe classic rock standards" for now. But I am surprised that "The Who" were chosen because of the Pete "Child Porn" Townsend controversy. Considering how Gooddell and the NFL supposedly want a 'squeeky clean' image (except of course 'their own players'ROFL) Daltry's voice is gone and Pete will play to (if not with) the children.:) Can't wait:rolleyes: Your thoughts? |
I heard Townsend and Daltry played Pinball Wizard during one of their setups/sound checks this week. It just happened to coincide with one of the media blitzes in the stadium.
|
The Who kicks ASS live. Saw them at Arrowhead a few years ago, and although I wasn't a BIG fan going in, I sure was coming out.
|
I can't remember the last time I watched a SB halftime show.
When I'm watching football, I want to see football highlights at half time. I could not give a rat's ass about halftime shows. |

I miss when they had Celebrity Deathmatch during halftime. I wish they'd do something like that again.

In this case, lip syncing may be in order. Daughtry cannot still have the pipes after 30 years of minimal work.

Should be better than Aerosmith with Britney Spears.
The Who is awesome live but there's only 2 of them and they're in their mid 60's. |
I'm a huge Who fan, so, yeah.

Never liked the Who. I am with Milk on this, lets watch football! I hate the halftime shows.

A lot of people don't know Prince has written a lot of good shit. Sinead creeps me out but Prince wrote the hell out of this song and she sung the hell out of this song. The Who we hear weekly on theme songs from CSI: Las Vegas/ New York/ Miami. I guess the CBS network really does own them now.

A lot of people don't know this? Even I, a man who knows jack about today's culture and music, know that Prince has written a lot of great songs, and is a giant in the field. If I know this, then I can't imagine there are many that don't. |

I couldnt agree more, he flat tore it up. |
Here's a cool look back on 11 of the most memorable Superbowl Halftime Show alternatives over the years. I wish they'd bring a few of these back.

Goddam sportsdink. I could write a dissertation on how big of a clueless dolt you are, but that would take the spotlight off what a blue ribbon, incognizant nipple biter that this board sees. Can't have that.
I saw The Who when they were great in the late 70's at Kemper. Daltry was incredible, screaming and dancing. Incredible show. But the guys are old now and I wish the NFL would stop letting Ralph Wilson pick the band for halftime. |
Looking at the rehearsals, it's going to suck. Doing a medley.
|
I actually am excited to see the show.

The Stones did a good job a few years back.
Frankly, though, for the Pats/Rams SB, the post-9/11 performance of U2 with the names of the victims pretty much put an "/endthread" to the SB halftime performances. |

So excited I just might have to tape the Puppy Bowl. The Who is in my top 5 and, like Springsteen, is renowned for its live shows. I saw them most recently on Oct. 2008 and Daltrey could still belt them. Townshend looked like shit but could still windmill fine.
I, like many prop betters, love trying to predict which 3-4 songs these legends decide to play. My guess: Baba O'Riley, Magic Bus, My Generation, Won't Get Fooled Again. Who Are You misses the cut to the shock of many. |

http://www.billboard.com/news#/event...04061611.story The Who's Pete Townshend, in an exclusive interview with Billboard, has revealed that the band's upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance will feature a "compact medley" of their signature classic-rock anthems. "We're kinda doing a mashup of stuff," the guitarist tells Billboard. "A bit of 'Baba O'Riley,' a bit of 'Pinball Wizard,' a bit of the close of 'Tommy,' a bit of 'Who Are You,' and a bit of 'Won't Get Fooled Again.' It works -- it's quite a saga. A lot of the stuff that we do has that kind of celebratory vibe about it -- we've always tried to make music that allows the audience to go a bit wild if they want to. Hopefully it will hit the spot." |

All the super long halftime garbage and the overhyped commercials are why the Super Bowl drives me nuts.
For the true football fan, conference championship Sunday is much better. Four outstanding teams, two games, no bull**it. |

I'd always liked the Who a lot but I wasn't expecting them to sound lile they were in their prime. I've seen a lot of great bands in concert but to this day that might be the best show I've ever seen. It's funny. Back then I was expecting a bunch of old men on stage giving it a valiant effort but they blew me away. Hard to believe that was over twenty years ago. Now I never underestimate the older bands. I've seen Van Morrison twice and he puts on as good a show as anyone. I've recently seen The Allman Brothers and they rock like nobody's business, too. |

I guess this ought to be the official halftime thread. What say you?
|
A whopping 30 seconds/ song. Thrilling stuff.
|
Damn.... I think Keith Moon looks more alive than any of them.
|
If you look real close, behind the amps on the left you can see where they all parked their Rascal Scooters.
|
Townshend's gonna need some Ben-Gay after that windmill.
|
This is really just a stunt to promote CSI.
|
Awful, out of tune, out of sync, half drunk, can't sing, pathetic. Aside from that it as fine.
|
light show is cool ... better than having a bunch of kids running around the field or something.
i was worried about the vocals at first but he's doing alright now. |

Its more about appealing to the grey hair Who fans who most likely make up the bulk of the stadium crowd. |

They looked uncoordinated and a bit out of sync but it wasn't awful.
Considering how breathless both of them sounded at times I was wondering if Daltry was going to be able to pull off that famous scream in Won't Get Fooled Again. Assuming that it wasn't electronically enhanced it sounded better than what I thought it would. |
I loved it ... nostalgia, you know.
Daltry sounded great for a 70 year old guy and Townsend hit mostly the right notes for being stone deaf and all. The only thing is that their songs need to be performed in their full length for total effect. Other than that, great job, Whos. FAX |

I think it's pretty righteous that they'll be the selection, I think they performed a few yrs. back. They're really a good 'live' choice. Unlike the Stones, The Who actually still sound good. But missed their performance, I was in my car. (relocating @ the half)

I urge my fellow Planeteers to throttle back on the criticism. The Who are rock and roll legends. They were there in the beginning. They helped create the genre. The live ones are each over 100 years old.
Besides, 60s rock isn't about perfection. It's about playing with energy and a "Who gives a crap?" attitude. They accomplished that and I'm proud of the old bastards. You go, Who! FAX |
bill walton
that was hoorrrible |
nothing like nursing home karaoke to celebrate the superbowl....fug me
when the lights are 1000x more interesting than your commercial sized "medley" of 40 year old songs, well... maybe next year we can get a band from the 50's..you know, so as not to offend the old and deceased.... |
I was expecting some black folks with their pants falling down so what a surprise to learn the Who are still alive.
