Car Back-up Cameras, do you use them? Which do you recommend?

With Norooz coming up next week, I'm out of ideas about what to buy for my wife. I've done jewelery, dresses etc. Yesterday at an Auto parts store I saw a Back-up Camera system which caused this curiosity. I checked CNET but so far have not seen any informative review. Who among you uses one? And are you happy with it? What links can you suggest for informative (comparative reviews?)

Mark One Mod Zero Eye Ball works well for me.

Alright Frankie, listen very close. DO NOT buy ANY kind of electronic - techy kind of stuff for your wife.
Three rules to live buy when buying for any woman.
1. It better feel good or
2. It better smell good or
3. It better taste good

Thats it !

You can thank me later.

What kind of freaking tard needs a camera to back up their vehicle?

Oh wait, never mind, that would be Donger.

Is your vehicle not equipped with mirrors?

Maybe his head doesn't swivel?

Yes. I take it you didn't understand my reference?

Thank for the advice Mr. S., but

(1) I am considered, among people who know me, in possession of good taste in that department, but it has become a bit repetitive. This time I would like to branch out of the norm and get her something functional.

(2) She is pretty cool with functional gifts too.

This sounds like a brilliant idea. "Hey honey, the stereotype of women can't drive is true, here's a camera to help your bad driving back up."

She drives well. But she freely admits to not be very good at parallel parking. And she is very down to earth. If I didn't have confidence about her attitude about it I would have never entertained the thought.

I was curious who would come up with the first vibrator joke. This place has become predictable.

LMAO I bought one for my wife, she chewed my ass, now I need to sell it on craigslist. Good luck buddy. :thumb:

No, I didn't, and Google isn't helping much either, is that a WWII reference of some sort?

Bugeater 03-14-2010 02:50 PM

And I suppose I can see where such a device would be somewhat helpful for parallel parking, I didn't think about that because us suburbanites don't have to deal with it very often. Maybe buy her a smaller vehicle that's easier to park?

I was talking about a massage device. She is constantly asking for foot rubs. That foot massager was the best $30 I ever spent.

TrebMaxx 03-14-2010 02:54 PM

We just purchased a 2010 Murano for Mrs. TrebMaxx which came equipped with a back up camera. I still find myself using the mirrors and not even paying attention to the display while backing up. My wife seems to dig it but I think it is just novelty at this point. I haven't had the chance to parallel park the new rig yet but that is a time that it might come in handy as another eye for you to use. To the OP, sorry don't know what brand to recommend.

Sort of, yes. A military reference to "eyes."

teedubya 03-14-2010 03:22 PM

Neither I nor my wife have EVER backed into anything. So, this is a waste of money.

If you want to get her something cool, get her an Android phone or an iPhone... smartphones have way more functionality.

I understand her point. But one of Fariba's qualities that Charmed me three years ago into marrying her is the fact that she really does not care about these things. Sure she is a woman and I'm sure she loves the typical niceties that women want. But she also gets excited about "toy" gifts. I'm pretty sure I'm safe there.

Fariba has a problem with her neck and constantly complains about the concentrated pain at the base of her neck. She wants me to massage it a lot, but I'm too clumsy with that. Ironically she likes to massage my aching back and feet and hands and she's great at it. She's an angel, I tell you. Diametrically opposite of my ex.

She drives a Saturn ION. But she is petite and even that is not a really small car for her.
