Cost to trade up?

lets say the Chiefs want Clausen and are worried about Cleveland and/or Buffalo trading up.

what is the cost to trade with the Rams? or do you just risk him falling to us?

I think the cost to trade up now is more than it would have been to jump into the end of the 1st round because so many teams have the opportunity to sit down, think about it, put together the best package and start negotiating against each other.

Vegas_Dave 04-23-2010 10:31 AM

I would love to see Clausen in the 2nd round. I personally would like to see the Chiefs trade up with the Rams because frankly I dont think there is any way in hell that the Vikings dont take him at #34.

OnTheWarpath15 04-23-2010 10:31 AM

There's a 40 point difference between 33 and 36.

Our 5a pick is worth exactly 40 points.

The question is, will someone offer more than that to get their guy? I think so.

ToxSocks 04-23-2010 10:32 AM

With so much talent left on the board i wouldn't be terribly upset if the Chiefs elected not to trade up. I'd be ****ing ecstatic if they did though. I wouldn't give up more than a 4th, a 5th prefered. Probably to the Rams.

Hell, it could be us. Maybe we ship 2 fifths. I wouldn't be opposed.

It will be the Bills or Browns that jump in front of us (and minny) to get him...

swayy07 04-23-2010 10:40 AM

there was alot of talkin goin around last night that the vikes dont wana draft a QB because they dont wana scare favre into thinking that they are moving on without him.

beer bacon 04-23-2010 10:43 AM

A team moved up 3 or 4 spots at the end of the 1st round yesterday by swapping their third for another team's fourth rounder. If we absolutely have one guy left on our board that is heads above everyone else than the most we should consider trading for him is our fourth. At most. If the Rams aren't interested in that then screw them. There are too many good players in this draft to waste picks in bad trades.

Schefter just updated and said they both have called the Rams.

I'd send them Croyle & our 5th and I'd do it quickly.

Their depth chart right now is:
Bradford, AJ Feely, Keith Null & Mike Reilly.

Not that Croyle is really worth anything via trade, he just sweetens the pot and gives them some experienced depth that they don't have in Null or Reilly.

if it takes our 3rd round pick to get Clausen in a trade...I'd do it in a HEARTBEAT.

If I'm on the phone, I try to make a big deal about going no lower than my 4.

Then I offer my 3 and 2b if necessary.

And if nut-cutting time approaches, I'd give up 2a and our 3 in exchange for 2 and 4.

I'd have to swallow very very hard before giving up 2a and 3 for Clausen.

rockymtnchief 04-23-2010 11:02 AM

Talking to a Viking buddy, he thinks Minn. is holding that pick in hopes of another team wanting Clausen bad enough to wheel and deal. If it doesn't happen, he thinks Mays is their pick. FWIW

Agreed. That is why I was hoping they would pull it off last night.

With Cleveland and Buffalo already contacting the Rams, it might drive the price too high. On the positive side though, that would help push additional talent down to us at 2a.

KChiefs1 04-23-2010 11:07 AM

I wouldn't move at all...if Clausen falls to us fine & if he gets picked before us then that leaves A LOT of talent on the board for #36 & #50.

Warning bells should be going off for Pioli right now. If we want to trade up we should offer what we think is fair to move up three spots in the 2nd round and no more. We can't get suckered into a bidding war.

the Talking Can 04-23-2010 11:16 AM

you could have had him last night for a 4th, maybe even a swap in round 3 and a 5th

which is why I don't think the Chiefs are serious about him unless he drops in their lap and then maybe....

Chiefnj2 04-23-2010 11:23 AM

I don't think Cleveland is interested in Clausen. If they wanted to give more time to a Weis disciple they could have kept Quinn. They also have enough picks to move around and get something done yesterday.

same could be said for Cleveland and Buffalo(or anyone really)

if they were serious about getting Clausen why didn't they trade back into round 1 and get Clausen last night?

That makes sense to me. Picking Clausen just gives Favre even more reason to retire, and the Vikes want to take one more shot with him.

If you swallowed well enough... you may not have to give up more than a fifth.

I vote gamble the Vikes don't trade up.

That is a good gamble.... since they are already ahead of us.

Mr. Laz 04-23-2010 12:04 PM

Clayton is now saying that the Rams don't want to trade down too far and miss out on a Wide Receiver which probably means Clevenland/Buffalo will have to pay a ton to get up there.

They could trade down to #36 and still get a damn good WR. :D

Mr. Laz 04-23-2010 12:08 PM

Michael Smith is now saying that he doesn't see Cleveland taking a QB today at all. They just have too many needs.

exactly ... it might be KC or nothing because everyone else is too far down.

if that is the case then Minnesota is the only Clausen threat.

The Franchise 04-23-2010 12:09 PM

If that's the case.....then I can honestly see Clausen falling to #36. The Rams should stay put and grab either Tate or Benn. The Vikings can use Mays or a LB. The Bucs could go WR or grab Kindle to play DE. The Chiefs have a TON of options at #36.

Frosty 04-23-2010 12:10 PM

I would have been fine with Clausen at #5, though I am thrilled with the Berry pick. However, at this point, I don't think I would trade up for Clausen. If he drops to #36, consider it there, but if he gets picked, there is still a ton of talent on board. There are so many holes on this team that I hate giving up picks. That 4th rounder people want to part with may turn into a starting ILB or RT.

:grovel:

2a. Jimmy Clausen, QB
2b. Damian Williams, WR
3. Donald Butler, ILB
4. Torrell Troup, NT

If we do grab Clausen then i think i want either Golden Tate or NT Terrance cody/Cam Thomas at 2b.

i wish Jerry Hughes was still on the board :sulk:

ChiefMojo 04-23-2010 12:22 PM

If we take Clausen at 2a, then Tate won't be around for 2b. I think Tate and Benn are going to go very quickly in the 2nd. Someone like Damien Williams might be the pick at 2b if we go WR there.

Frankly I woudn't give up anything more than 5a for Clausen when it comes to draft picks. The most I would give up would be 5a and Croyle to sweeten the package.

i'm ok with grabbing WR Jordan Shipley in round 5

Which is why I'm dumbfounded there wasn't more movement at the bottom of the 1st round. It's likely going to end up that it would have been cheaper to move to 28-32 than to move to 33.

none of these other teams moved up to grab Clausen in the bottom of the 1st round either. Minnesota even traded down.

I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at, but if someone is wiling to pay a premium to move up to 33, then they'd obviously be willing to pay less to go to 28-32, regardless of who they're targeting.

it would have been cheaper, i'm sure they know it too

you have to think they believe he will fall to them, or just don't care that much
