Alan Faneca released

The Jets have reportedly released LG Alan Faneca.
The headline here reads "Jets release Pro Bowl G Alan Faneca." A Pro Bowler Faneca was in 2009, but he sure didn't play like it. Second-round pick Vlad Ducasse now looks to be locked in at left guard. Faneca, 33, should draw some interest, but won't approach the $7.5 million he was due from the Jets.

I know we don't really need a Guard anymore, but I was all over getting this guy when he was available. Was his play really that poor? That Jets line was sick last year.

Hammock Parties 04-23-2010 10:20 PM

We should pick him up, he'll make Cassel look even better.

notorious 04-23-2010 10:21 PM

I am spent.

Anybody know if Faneca is still worth a ****?

Rausch 04-23-2010 10:22 PM

Yes.

**** yes. He's not what he was but he's hella' better than what's opposite Watters...

buddha 04-23-2010 10:22 PM

There's Jets poor, and there's Chiefs poor. I'd sure bring him in. Pro Bowl guards don't grow on trees.

Buehler445 04-23-2010 10:43 PM

Good thing they busted their cap to get him.

Better than Lilja?

Can Lilja or Faneca play RT instead?

KCrockaholic 04-23-2010 10:52 PM

I would say let's do it, but idk....

If he's not a Chief, he's automatically better.

I'll go check on madden 10

Quesadilla Joe 04-23-2010 11:55 PM

Denver will sign him.

An old overpaid veteran who was released by his team for not living up to his contract?

You're probably right.

Why? You always talk about your "pro bowl" caliber guard and just drafted another guard in the 2nd. Perhaps you could be wrong? McD wrong for drafting a guard?

HotRoute 04-23-2010 11:59 PM

he would be nice, but would most likely want too much. he will go somewhere else

Chris Kuper is very good RG but Denver most likely will be starting a rookie center and I just don't think McDaniels wants to start two rookies on the OL. Faneca fits the power blocking running game McDaniels wants to run, and the interior line is a big need for Denver.

HotRoute 04-24-2010 12:07 AM

i would be surprised if he went to denver

BIG K 04-24-2010 12:09 AM

Thomas jones, now fanneca?

Surprisingly reasonable post. Faneca probably has enough left for a more than a one year place holder but some vets have not fared well this offseason.

The Bad Guy 04-24-2010 05:35 AM

No room for him. The Chiefs should cut Waters now too. Let Lilja move to LG and play the 3rd rounder at RG.

Faneca is pretty much finished.

Absolutely. I was really surprised the Chiefs paid Waters his roster bonus back in March.

He's not where Asamoah will be and yes, he's much better than Lilja ever was...

Maybe they use Waters to get into the 4th round.

I think a lot of guys are gone after this year.

I hate to see it. This is the part of the business that pisses me off. You hope the franchise is loyal but everyone pulls an Ali and stays 1 or 2 or 3 years beyond their ability.

Waters is beyond his usefulness but...

Braincase 04-24-2010 06:29 AM

What's the status of the Will Shields cloning project?

That's how I see it.

But my lack of confidence in Pioli tells me that Scarl will trade the rights to Jon Asamoah to someone today to recoup the 4th round pick.

Okay, I don't actually believe that, but that tells you how I feel about Pioli.

Do you believe that anyone would trade a 4th round pick for Waters at this point in his career?

I would be amazed, but stranger things have happened.

I'd do a happy dance if we could get a 6th for him.

They will try to get a 6th or 7th for him, but will likely end up just releasing him...as I said they would in the original Lilja thread.

I cant foresee a situation where Lilja is our day one starter at RG.
