NewChief 07-06-2010 01:22 PM

Kind or schwag?

blaise 07-06-2010 01:22 PM

I wouldn't call the cops. I don't want to tell you what to do, but I wouldn't do that.

Mile High Mania 07-06-2010 01:22 PM

First, you smack him in the head for not being smart enough to conceal it... I doubt you want to involve the cops as a scare tactic, that could backfire on you. I would imagine it depends on the situation... has he ever been in trouble before? Is he a good kid that is just experimenting?

You obviously want to nip this one in the bud (pun intended), but how you approach it really depends on the kid and other factors that none of us know anything about.

luv 07-06-2010 01:22 PM

Might not be a good idea if he has a lot on him.

I think it comes down to the kid. I know plenty of people where weed negatively affects their lives and i know plenty of people where smoking weed doesn't affect them at all. I wouldn't call the cops though. That sounds like relationship suicide. You would lose a ton of trust.

Gracie Dean 07-06-2010 01:25 PM

I do not think I would call the police, but I would put the kid on lock down

bust balls for not having the decency to smoke it somewhere else.

Bugeater 07-06-2010 01:30 PM

Definitely don't call the cops. What I would do is confiscate his stash and...uhhh...flush it down the toilet. Yeah, that's it. I definitely would not keep it for myself. Wouldn't even consider it.

This.

Then I would beat the crap outta him for doing a drug that will make him dumber than he already is.

tyton75 07-06-2010 01:32 PM

Beat his ass, smoke his stash

Jilly 07-06-2010 01:35 PM

Doesn't it kinda depend....is he smoking it all the time or was it a one time deal? Does he buy it himself or does he use his "allowance" to buy it?

NewChief 07-06-2010 01:39 PM

Lace his weed with PCP.

Id tell him to puff, puff, pass.

ForeverChiefs58 07-06-2010 01:43 PM

don't call cops, esp if you support him and would have to pay to bail him out, cost of lawyer etc. have serious talk with just you two, maybe do a weekend getaway just you two where you would have the time to explain your feelings in detail to them. JMO

If you really have no problem with him smoking it......then tell him that he needs to be smarter and smoke it somewhere where he can't get easily busted.

If you have a problem with him smoking it.....then tell him that.

Frazod 07-06-2010 01:49 PM

Wow. That's just brazen. I hope he was already stoned before doing something that stupid. Had I done that, my dad would probably still be in jail for his response.

I'd say it's up to you to come down on him like the Anvil of ****ing Death, and it should be his friends place to say "Don't smoke pot where your dad can see you, dumbass!"

Jilly 07-06-2010 01:51 PM

I would think that if it's an issue that's affecting his daily life - poor grades, disrespect, holding a job.... then more needs to happen than just a "talk". Don't know if I would call the police though.

But if it's a one, two time deal....just have a talk with him about why and how often.

Mr. Plow 07-06-2010 01:52 PM

My first question to you would be what is your opinion on your 17 year old son smoking weed.....then I'd go from there.

sedated 07-06-2010 01:52 PM

only call the cops if you have bail money and are a complete asshole. Cops don't play along with parenting "scare" tactics, they will take his ass to jail and not think twice about it.

This.
Granted I'm a 19 year old boy so take it for what it's worth.

tooge 07-06-2010 02:25 PM

I'd have the long talk about why he never approached me to tell me that he was curious about it so we could talk about it. It's all about communication IMO. I'd rather my kid come and tell me that they would like to know about the stuff, then I can at least get my crack at educating him before his peers do. Since that didn't happen, I'd have the talk now and probably go easy if he is a good kid in general. If not, I'd bust his ass and take away whatever he values the most for a while.

MOhillbilly 07-06-2010 02:37 PM

i busted my 13 year old daughter smokin a few weeks back. Brought the hammer down hard and heavy for two weeks. On top of this i told her she was grounded for 30 weeks and we were gonna send her to a christian school.
she will be ungrounded from making big rocks into little rocks in acouple week or so.

tooge 07-06-2010 02:40 PM

I love it man, you got the chain gang penalty there. I'm gonna have to consider that one in a couple of years

Wow, I didn't think any 19 year old would consider themselves a boy still. Keep that attitude, it will help a lot in the next few years.

sandynme 07-06-2010 02:51 PM

you are obviously from johnson county, give him some makeup and a newspaper to read and send him out driving on the missouri side...and btw,if you seek parenting advice often online, consider pulling out next time

notorious 07-06-2010 02:51 PM

Communicate.

If that doesn't work, apply "Foot to Ass".

RJ 07-06-2010 03:18 PM

Sure, it would be hypocritical to confiscate his stash and then smoke it. But sometimes hypocricy is just a part of parenting.

Do you want your kids to trust you? Then don't call the cops. Talk to them. Talking to your kids never harmed a parent or child.

Mr. Flopnuts 07-06-2010 03:31 PM

You want to give your kid a record for the rest of his life over some pot? Are you ****ing stupid? 20 years from now, who knows if juvenile records will stop people from getting jobs? We had no idea 20 years ago that minor misdemeanors would prevent people from good paying jobs. You could **** his whole life up over some pot. Unless you hate your kid, find another solution.

This. I had an acquaintance try this little strategy one time. Thought they'd call the cops and teach their kid a lesson. And they thought that since they were the ones calling it in, that the cops would go easy and use it as a learning experience and that would be that. Well the cops felt a little differently about somebody calling 911 and wasting their time. They were furious. Told the parents that the next time they wanted to use the justice system as a parenting tool, that they'd haul the parents to jail as well. Took the kid down to the station, and ended up requiring the kid to do treatment, community service, etc. Cost the parents a bloody fortune.

Asking for parenting advice on here can give you some decent ideas on how to handle this type of thing. Be forwarned though....

Eventually, some ****ing idiot douchebag who thinks he's funny will say something completely reeruned.

Hammock Parties 07-06-2010 03:56 PM

I'd sit down and smoke the bud with him. And have a good laugh.

Then when we were done, I'd say.

"If your grades drop this fall, you will be grounded for the entire following summer. You won't even be allowed to watch TV. Weed is more fun, though."

stevieray 07-06-2010 04:03 PM

depends..if you think they are going to party regardless, follow mo's advice and let em know your rules and opinion...if you think they are just experimenting...roll a couple of hooters and make em smoke it...back to back to back hits...they might get so high or nauseous, they won't touch it again...you gotta know your kids and how to push their buttons..

technique used on kids who wanted to start smoking cigarettes...risky though.

stevieray 07-06-2010 04:05 PM

I LEARNED IT FROM WATCHING YOU!

bevischief 07-06-2010 05:17 PM

Fail, bad parenting for not teaching him to smoke it where there is no one to see his dumb as# do it...

Next up his girlfriend will be giving him things in the living room...

Iowanian 07-06-2010 06:26 PM

Get a half pound of bad weed and make him smoke it until he's sick.

Definitely not in an old coffee can out in the shed on the corner of the small shelf that you can hardly see because it's tucked under a bigger shelf and even if you did see it you'd just think 'hey, that's just an old coffee can in a shed, there's probably no need to look in there'.

ROFLROFLROFL

But if you're considering calling the cops for something as small as weed...then damn...

I think the bigger issue isn't that he smoked weed...it's that he smoked in the ****ing driveway. I mean, really?

Mr. Flopnuts 07-06-2010 07:57 PM

I don't know what's so significant about the driveway. Mr. Flopnuts smoked reefer in his parents driveway some 20 years ago. It was a natural spot.

Mr. Plow 07-07-2010 09:25 AM

Ok - I'm just curious....what is the planets opinion on smoking at 17, period. Not weed necessarily, just smoking.

Bugeater 07-07-2010 09:26 AM

I don't see how a 17 yr old can afford to smoke these days.

My goddaughter smokes, which really isn't surprising considering both her parents smoke. I don't like it, but there really isn't much I can say about it without feeling like a major hypocrite.

Bug's right about the price, though. A pack-a-day habit up here is the equivalent of a car payment.

TrickyNicky 07-07-2010 09:42 AM

Have them get robbed and pistol-whipped in the worst part of town after they overpaid for an eighth of ditchweed. That'll scare em straight, or at least worked for me.

Consistent1 07-07-2010 11:15 AM

It has been said many times, but the cops would be stupid. Years and years ago that might have worked. The world has changed. It does seem like if the parents call to be "responsible" that it would be let go at some point. That won't happen in 99% of places anymore with no-drop policies, etc. The people that consistently vote and influence elections are ignorant older people that think drugs are terrible, etc. They like see convictions no matter what the charge is, and these SA pricks go for it. If the kid is 17 and working, to me they have just as much right to smoke pot as anyone else. As a parent that may make you upset, but you don't see most of the things they do anyway. I am not a big pot fanboy, never really enjoyed it, but NEVER use the police to try to control situations unless it is absolutely out of your hands to fix it. It's not a "meet ya down at the bar later for a beer, thanks for scarin' the kid" deal.

Mr. Flopnuts 07-07-2010 11:19 AM

Child smoking is going to be non existent in 5 years. Hell, smoking may be non existent in 5 years. By the time they hit $20 a pack (does anyone doubt they will?) everyone but the elite are going to have to quit.

smack him upside thew head take his weed
and remind him whose house and who's rules they are

tell him you have violated my trust
guilt the **** out of him

then have him pack up everything in his room
including the door

then tell him to earn it back

I have no problem with weed but it, like booze and tobacco should not be used until a certain age
