McCluster Making a Name
|
Great read, thanks for posting it.
|
Nice to see our players with the right mind set. I can not wait to see MCCluster hit the field.
|
I'm not a big fan of the McCluster pick, but I do like his dedication.
|
On a side note, DBowe could probably benefit from some of those eye/focus exercises.

Wasn't a big fan of the pick at the time but he has certainly grown on me. Every single thing I've read about the guy this offseason has been awesome. I hope it transfers to the field.
|
I'm like others. Hated the pick but starting to love and believe in the guy. I RARELY change my mind on a pick without the guy proving it on the field, but everything -- every damn thing -- I've read, seen or heard of the guy is positive, often extremely positive. I have to admit to barely even thinking about him in the draft build-up, so on draft day it was like, "WTF?!" But simply watching his highlights or game tapes tells you a lot. It ain't Mountain West defenses he's running away from or otherwise clowning. Numerous draft picks including our very own top-5-once-in-a-decade prospect looked all kinds of silly trying to defend McC in the open field.
It's the total yardage I'm not sure about, but would anyone really be surprised if he moved the chains 6-8 times on opening MNF? Any time I think abour out 3rd-down offense, I think about questionable pass pro, a questionable QB and questionable outside WRs' seperation skills; McCluster running a shifty flag or quick slant route and getting open for the "easy" Cassel pass seems like the best outcome. |
I liked the pick. I like the pick. I will continue to like the pick.
|
i wish more of our players were going to these types of camps.

From what I understand, most, if not all the players are already in or at least preparing to be training camp ready. Don't be such a sourpuss- this is the BEST offseason this team has had in a very long time. |
What's his new name? McLackLuster? McThirddownLuster?
Trying to stay ahead of the midseason nicknames to be given. |

I think Pioli going with character guys and guys who were captains and good guys off the field will pay off because you see the work ethic these guys have. That's what I am hoping anyway. |

Serious? Other teams don't do their due diligenge? You mean like the SB Champion Saints? Or the AFC Champion Colts? Or playoff teams like the Vikings, the Packers, the Chargers, the Jets. Yep, they all must be doing something wrong. |

A lot of these guys, particularly the lineman do something in the offseason to prepare improve their physique and their game. I was just alluding to the fact that every member of our team showed up to to OTA's which is not mandatory and that shows a lot of character for a team. I also thought I read somewhere that Waters was doing something like this too and I was reminded of this while watching the new documentary on the band, Rush, and how Neil Peart took drumming lessons from some guru a couple of years ago. Even Neil Peart, arguably one of the best drummers in rock, wanted to look for ways to improve his skills. |

first year i've hear of Bowe doing that though ... maybe he did and we just didn't hear about that. imo Bowe is a primo candidate for these type camps. |

As strong as all the hate for Haley is on here I have to say I'm quietly becoming impressed with the direction Pioli and company are headed.
|
it's insane the commitment it takes to be even an average nfl player....

If you can show me proof I might believe you. But This is the first time they've worked out. |
I loved the pick.. but i'm an ole miss homer

Measurables are important, but not everything. This administration seems to not place combine measurables at the very top, but rather game speed, personal makeup, integrity, etc. |

I've never read any stories about NFL teams starting out a draft search with 2000 names like the Chiefs did last year. As I stated in another reply, there was the story about McCluster where his 40 time was off a bit from where the 'analysts' thought it should be, and they were proclaiming he would drop in the draft as a result. Pioli stated he thought he played faster than that, so when they investigated they found he was coming off of a small injury which slowed him down. Stuff like that is what I was talking about. Do they investigate the guys character, his heart, or just use a spreadsheet to compare combine measurables? |
I think it's pretty cool how players from different teams work out together and do these camps together. They're trying to up each others' game, and as a result the talent level of the entire league goes up, and games become that much more exciting and fun to watch. I mean, McCluster and Washington could very well end up going against each other in a real game situation, and McCluster will try to use what Washington taught him to beat him. That's a pretty cool aspect of the NFL that you never really think about.

In all honesty McCluster wasn't passed over by anyone. He actually went a basically half of a round earlier than expected. Most saw McCluster as a late 2nd guy and we took him early 2nd.
I liked the pick from the beginning. I say that because I felt he was a excellent football player regardless of measurements. What this team has been sorely lacking is a big number of playmakers and McCluster was one of the most dynamic playmakers in this draft. I'm not scared of his size one bit. I guess I've been in the dream world of thinking what it would be like if the Chiefs had someone like Darren Sproles or Percy Harvin on roster... now we have that type of player and I'm so excited to see him perform! |

It's a Chief's second rounder
come on if he's stll on the team in 3 years it's a success |
If he turns out to be a stud, no one will lament the passing over of LB's in this draft.
At least I won't. There wasn't anyone that great anyway. |

I don't at all see that as proof when most other sites I've found claim Dwayne Bowe working out with Fitz as a "surprise". If you type in "Bowe Fitzgerald 2009" you will find little to nothing about them working out. Try 2010, and you will find a boat load of articles and quotes. |
We are doomed...

It's encouraging that we have guys on the team that are doing these kind of things, not because they have too... just because they want to. |
My glass is definately half-full right now. Got my fingers crossed for McCluster & Berry being in contention for 'Rookie of the Year' & the Chiefs getting at least one playoff game this coming post-season.

If he proves us all wrong, I'll still like the pick. Playmakers are what bring championships. |

This team has a long way to go in terms of personnel before it can consistently compete for the playoffs, let alone a championship. A LONG way to go. |

At this point, I will take "competitive" and read it as a sign of improvement from the 2009 season. |

The growth of the team hinges on these guys mainly: Cassel, Cassel, Cassel x 1000 TyJack Dorsey Bowe Berry Albert Charles DJ and Hali Flowers and Carr Hey, at least we seem to have a core of players with alot of upside potential. |
