ESPN: Rank Top NFL Running Backs
Jamaal Charles is ranked 14th out of 15 running backs. Only Knowshon Moreno is ranked lower. It is clear that a lot of people have not watched Charles play yet. Help him out!

Id rather he stay underrated.
It will hurt more for opposing defenses that way. |
The last thing any running back, or boxer, ever needs to think is that they've gotten there.

What Charles did in the second half of last season was exciting and gives one hope that we have a stud.
I was pretty happy with the pick when it was made and felt that he had the potential to be an outstanding RB in the NFL. That being said, it was only a half season and until he shows that he can be that kind of player over time, that ranking isn't really out of line. |
That's how I rated them, although, there's no way that I would have Williams, Moreno, or Grant in the top 15.<!--begin submit button--> <!--end personal rankings--> |

Cedric Benson has had like, one good year since being utter shit in Chicago?

Where's Jerome Harrison at?
|
My ratings:
1. Chris Johnson 2. Jamaal Charles 3. Adrian Peterson 4. DeAngelo Williams 5. Ray Rice 6. Maurice Jones-Drew 7. Steven Jackson 8. Frank Gore 9. Michael Turner 10. Jonathan Stewart 11. Rashard Mendenhall 12. Ricky Williams 13. Cedric Benson 14. Ryan Grant 15. Knowshon Moreno |

This is how I ranked them.

Here's the key, though:
The degree of separation on that list between 1 and 10 isn't all that demonstrable. It's one of the many reasons why RBs are overvalued. |
Ray Rice at 8? He's a damn good back then again I guess theres alot of good ones.
|

The only thing that is clear is that Knowshon Moreno sucks. |

Benson has played more games, and had some productive games in his first two seasons. I think Charles is better than just about every one on that list, but until he does it over time, I ranked him where I think his production and games played combined, should have him ranked. |
Lol. I only laugh at the people that don't know who Jamaal Charles is.
They will see this year. |

I dont know why Ray Rice is so low on some peoples rankings. 2000 yards from scrimmage last year. Runs great and can turn chicken shit into chicken pot pie. I don't think he should be any lower than 5 on any ranking.
|
Benson and Ricky over Charles.
|

He averaged over 4 yards a carry. Had a couple of down season, but bounced back last year. And once again, I only rank Charles that low because he has to prove it over time. I am in the Charles bandwagon. I have been since he was drafted. But I am not simply going to crown his ass because I think he can be one of the top 3 RBs in the NFL. He has to prove it over time. |
Anyone remember Tony Reed?

Have to see what this full season brings .. but I think Charles should be in the top 10 if plays like last season ....

Then he just dropped off a cliff. |
Okay, here it is.
http://www.pro-football-reference.co...R/ReedTo00.htm This is why one needs to produce over time. I thought that kid was going to be a star. |

But that's part of the game, and why I say production over time has to be considered when rating players. |

little different these days |

However, he's a smallish RB that has suffered some minor injuries, and until he can get through a full season and produce at a high level, I simply am not ready to list him at the top. He has the talent to be there. I've believed that since the day he was drafted. But I won't put him there until he actually proves it over the course of a season. |
This is how I ranked 'em
1. 1.Chris Johnson 2. 2.Adrian Peterson 3. 3.Ray Rice 4. 4.Maurice Jones-Drew 5. 5.Steven Jackson 6. 6.DeAngelo Williams 7. 7.Frank Gore 8. 8.Ricky Williams 9. 9.Michael Turner 10. 10.Jamaal Charles 11. 11.Cedric Benson 12. 12.Ryan Grant 13. 13.Rashard Mendenhall 14. 14.Jonathan Stewart 15. 15.Knowshon Moreno Uh idk why the numbers got copied twice. Yeah that's right, I put Rice down at 3. |
JC is going to be a 2nd round steal in a shit ton of FF drafts.
|
I don't know, but Knowshown Moreno is definitely last until he proves he's worth a shit. I don't think you can put Charles into the Top 5 until he plays a full season. Hell, if he plays like he did at the end of the year he could be #2.
|
At this point give me Ronnie Brown or Chris Wells over (average-joe) Knowshit.

Charles is in 9th place for #1 votes.

I traded my first round pick in a keeper league for Ray Rice. I now have Rice & Tom Brady and still have another first round pick. Me>>>>> Pioli

Homer goggles. The guy's propensity for putting the football on the ground notwithstanding Id take him over Charles any day. All he has to do is go to Tiki Barber's school for holding onto the football and he will be the best back in the league. How the heck did Ricky Williams make this list? Is there some sort of stat for most joints smoked between downs or something? |
Matthews will be a better RB then a 1/4 of that list too.
|
I'll take Jamaal over AD if Jamaal can duplicate the season he had last year over a full season.
|
Quote:
|
In terms of pure running, I think AD is the 2nd best RB in the league. In terms of value to a team, Ray Rice would have to be 2nd on that list.
|
And Mr. Thomas Jones didn't make the list ????

These guys are homeristic on this, but they aren't nearly as blindly, stupidly homeristic as KnowShit. |

ESPN fudged up again. But if Jones had gone to The Giants or stayed with Jets his name would be towards the top. |

I don't know what's so crazy about thinking Charles is one of the best (if not the best) back in the NFL. He ran for nearly 6 yards per carry behind the same offensive line that Larry Johnson repeatedly ran up the ass of. Charles is a phenomenal player. It has nothing to do with homer goggles. It's not like he's Greg Hill or something. |
Charles has yet to prove he can play a whole season.
|
And it's just about time for KnowMo to sho.
|

B) Who gives a shit? Chris Johnson has only played 2 seasons. Does that mean he cannot be considered a great player yet? |
Billay is just mad cause Jamaal Pwned his Cornhuskers in college.
|
Peterson is one hell of an overrated back. Injury prone, puts the ball on the ground like he's playing basketball. Yeah he's uber talented but he has some serious negatives in his game.
|
Quote:
Don't forget what he has done. |

A guy who hasn't played a full season can't be considered the best RB in football. You all are ****ing morons. |
I agree with Billay. A guy without a full season can't be the best at his position.
However, Charles doesn't need to have 5 great seasons to prove he's the best either. With the running back position you generally can play or not. You don't need years to establish yourself like at WR or QB. Charles has all of the skills to be the best, he just needs to prove it this year. He doesn't need to prove it year after year after year. Other positions? Yeah. Running back? No. Backs can come in and dominate as rookies because it is an instinctive position, like linebacker on defense. So if Charles comes out and blows everyone away this year it's not out of line to talk about him as the best back in the league AT THE MOMENT. |
Quote:
These rankings don't mean shit. Since JC started, the only RB in the league that compared to him was Chris Johnson from TEN. |
Quote:
It's the reason, I believe, someone said that billay was reposting. |

Quote:
I made a joking statement, about Jamaal single handedly beating the Cornhuskers. |
Who ****ing cares dude, the only thing that matters is he keeps producing like he did during the second half of the season.
|
I hope he doesn't have to look all that great this year. With TJ being a solid proven vet, that will take pressure off. Should both be able to rock if the offense can start finding ways to make the opposing D have genuine concerns about stopping it. A lot of this rating shit is fantasy football stuff. Where are the Colts and Saints RB's ranked there? Charles is a special player regardless.

Christ, this looks like a WPI thread.
Dude's had 5 great games against run defenses ranked 26th or worse. Let's make sure he can repeat that for a full season, against all opponents before we crown his ass. I think the kid has all the potential in the world - have since he was drafted - but some of you are being ridiculous. |
Baited for Rainbows
and caught gars |

Hopefully with a shored up O-line and some new toys on offense, the passing game can help Charles perform better against those stout defenses. But to call him the #2 back at this point is teh homerism. |
