Jose Guillen DFA'd
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Jose Guillen(notes) has been designated for assignment by the Kansas City Royals.
The outfielder-designated hitter was signed three years ago to a $36 million, three-year contract that made him the Royals’ highest paid player per year in team history. He was leading the Royals with 62 RBIs and 16 home runs, and he is owed approximately $3.93 million from his $12 million salary this season. Kansas City is Guillen’s ninth major league stop. The Royals have 10 days to trade or release him. The Royals also selected the contract of right-hander pitcher Philip Humber(notes) from Triple-A Omaha. LINK About time. |
If only there were some sort of a thread in which we could, y'know, compile Royals news like this. If we did have such a thread, I'd bet this would've been posted by now

Why even have new thread posting abilities if everything was to be combined into a general thread. The 15000 different discussions per thread thing gets old. |
Stay down, bitch!

Jose is just misunderstood. Bet in the next two weeks we'll see an article where he trashes KC, the fans, the team, the whole situation, and will blame everybody and everything....except himself...for the losing.
When you get paid $36 million you're supposed to make a difference. He's just been stealing from the Royals, like Gil Meche, and Mike Sweeney, and Juan Gonzalez, etc etc etc etc etc. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. Same as it Ever Was. |

I totally agree with this. He's gonna trash everybody and everything just like the douche-lord that he is. |
Best Day Ever

I wonder who we are going to trade him to. And what are we going to get?

There is a god.

The guy has gone like 2 for his last 36 AB's or something. I hope we see Kila now as the DH and not Bloomy or someone else. It's Kila time. Give the kid a ****ing chance.

Correction: When you pay a player $36 million, you should probably ensure he's capable of being a difference maker. Moore offered him the money - he took it. In the meantime, he's been pretty much exactly what he was for his entire career. If Moore offers you $5 million to pitch for the Royals, you'd be an idiot not to take him up on it. When you throw 50 mph and can't get anyone out, we'll it's Moore's fault to have expected you to do so. When you sign a guy on the backside of his prime who was never an elite player to begin with, you have nobody to blame but yourself when he doesn't live up to the exorbitant sum of money you agreed to give him. |

He's leading the team in Homeruns and Rbi's and we are glad he is off the team. Odd. I understand why people want him gone, he is blocking the youth, and we see what he can do. I think the signature moment in gulliens career came in his first year, where we were down by 2 in the bottom of the 9th, he hits one that any other staduim any other night would have been the game winner, but it gets caught on the warning track.
Denny Matthews : *crack* there it goes, .....to left and deep.........................................and it caught up against the wall and that's the game. It looked for everything in the world, that it was gone. |

His signature moment occurred at Fenway when he was responsible for a force out at home...on a ball hit to right ****ing field. Or When WTI ripped his ass for missing the cut-off man. |
I liked a couple weeks ago in Yankee Stadium where Guillen is jogging home from third on a shot in the corner, Betamit gets thrown out trying to stretch a double for the final out of the inning, and gets tagged out a step before Guillen hits home, so he doesn't score. Loafing can't be tolerated when you're on the field, ever, ever, ever. My dad used to say "Hustle makes up for a multitude of sins." I believe that.

Meche is more Hillman's fault than anything. I wouldn't say he was a real mistake.

Guillen could've slid into home while the OFer was laying in LF dead and nobody would've remembered it a day later. Meanwhile his loafing left an indelible mark. Is it too much to ask for a professional athlete to run 90 feet. 90 feet?!?!? The Cards have our share of this as well. And I'll get tagged for this, but the worst are always the latins. Molina, Pujols and Lopez dog it all the time out there, especially Molina. It appears you guys have the same issue with Guillen. I don't get it but it absolutely pisses me off. |

you would think with how many homers pujols has hit he wouldn't act so ****ing amazed at what he just did

I never understand the hate for Meche. He didn't steal anything... we signed him to a huge contract then abused the daylights out of him. What do you think is going to happen? At least he actually performed well when he was healthy.

That is actually good to hear what he said about Kansas City.

after that first year when he called people babies and tried to go into the stands he really was pretty good. I wish he would have charged the mound or did something really crazy. We haven't had a guy try to go after a pitcher since sweeney

Giants are 'discussing' Royals' Jose Guillen
Guillen Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports that the Giants are "discussing" Royals outfielder Jose Guillen. The struggling and overpaid Guillen was designated for assignment by Kansas City on Thursday afternoon after batting .255/.314/.429 over 396 at-bats and .151/.198/.260 after the All-Star break. He's a liability in the outfield and would not do well in San Francisco's spacious AT&T Park, but the Giants want to beef up their bench and Guillen at least boasts a hint of power. The Royals should part with him easily. Aug. 5 - 5:50 pm et Source: San Jose Mercury News |

And Dayton Moore signed him. I'm not sure how to describe that kind of stupid. |
