Hard Knocks - Jets Edition

Anyone watching?

Or is most the board boycotting because of the QB?

Good first episode. Rex Ryan is ****ing hilarious.

Matt Cassel has competition when it comes to hitting the crossbar.

John Connor, rookie FB from Kentucky is laying the ****ing wood.

Joe Willie still looks/sounds drunk.

Bart Scott is a BAMF.

Should be a fun season to watch.

LaChapelle 08-11-2010 09:13 PM

I'll wait for the Sharks edition. Those Puerto Ricans make much better dancers.

Love it, except for the Bill Callahan interview.

Revis... Revis...

As a JETS fan, I loved the first episode. Ryan was hilarious!
But Revis situation seems really bleak... Our GM's comment does not instill any confidence that Revis will play this season.

Hopefully Cromartie and Kyle Wilson will do a good job. Looking forward to next week's episode.

mcaj22 08-12-2010 12:27 AM

Bart Scott is awesome for this.

Red Dawg 08-12-2010 06:25 AM

No Revis? Who cares about that show then.

Ryan gets one draft pick,no questions asked and this kid is it,looks like he's well on his way to sending T-Rich to unemployment or possibly another team.

Farzin 08-12-2010 07:02 AM

Is Bobby Sippio in it?

I had a hard time figuring out whether or not they really all act like that, or if it was just show for the camera.

I've noticed over the years the increase of F-bombs,so I've got to think the producers have said hey it's HBO,let if fly.

gblowfish 08-12-2010 08:21 AM

I saw it. It was nice to see T-Rich and how respected he is by everybody he plays with. He's been in the league 16 years, and he'll be blocking for LT in the Jet's backfield. Pretty good lead blocker, just ask Marcus Allen. Revis will play, he just wants to miss some training camp. Players hate training camp. Marty was at Jets camp hanging out with Coach Ryan. I was surprised to see him there. Perhaps they needed a "gleem."

Don't forget his son is there too. Probably part of the reason he was there. Or maybe he just wanted to see defense being played. Lord knows I do.

Have to agree with this. They have signed a bunch of dudes, talked the talk, and all that shit. Now, let's see what they can do. He went from seeming kind of out of it about the even making the playoffs deal at the end of the season to king of the hill. Now, they are just world-beater locks for the SB the way he talks at times. The deal with him trying to get Revis to sit down with the entire team to negotiate is pretty funny also. They better win.

kcxiv 08-13-2010 02:54 AM

I just seen it earlier as well and i loved it. ITs Far far far more entertaining in that 1 episode then the Chiefs were for the whole damned thing(cept for Pollard's dancing).

TRich may be getting replaced if the terminator dude keeps knocking guys around the way he has been. There is no way that dude gets cut.

Really enjoyed the part with Broadway Joe at training camp.

It was awesome to see how everyone in that room was glued to his every word - and he was talking about hand placement under center.

Joe hasn't lost any passion for the Jets, thats for sure.

Here's the thing. the Jets had the same exact record under him as they did with Mangini. including a collapse, manginis was at the end of the season and Rex's was in the middle of the season. he has done a great job with the defense, hes a great defensive coordinator. but now I see why he was turned down for all those head coaching jobs. you can talk that shit after you win a super bowl. he hasnt won shit.

He's just like his father. a loud mouth that never followed through on anything. Rex also has gastric bypass surgery in the spring and vowed to be at TC in tip top condition..LMAO..I hope his commitment to winning a super bowl is better than his promise to lose weight.

Buck 08-13-2010 01:21 PM

It saddened me to see LT and Cromartie Thriving. Especially with Cromartie, if he has a good season, I will lose all faith in our coaching staff.

Cromartie's season will have to do with the Jets front 7, if they get major pass rush he'll get picks because he takes chances, if they don't he'll look like he did in San Diego.

As the Chargers pass rush declined so did Cromartie's play.

lol, I said the same shit about LJ i was wrong. While you need a decent line, he's just not close to the same. Our running game was ass with LJ. Then he got the boot and Charles came in and just tore it up. Running inside, outside, didnt matter.

Sorry Dude, this is just plain silly.

Rex Ryan has been an excellent position coach and defensive coordinator and I have no reason to believe he won't be an excellent head coach.

As long as his defense is in the Top Five and his offense ascending, he can talk "shit" all he wants.

Maybe you're not getting as much of him as I am ;) he was calling Revis the greatest defensive player in the history of football last year. isnt it shocking that he's holding out this year, and Rex is only saying now that hes the best cb ive ever coached.

He's a great defensive coordinator. no doubt about that, I agree. but he's a buffoon because of his big mouth.

I don't see speaking your mind and pimping your team as "talking shit."

Now, if he were to make derogatory comments about another team, maybe.

Dude, Revis was going to holdout regardless of what the head coach said about him. That was without question.

He's the best cornerback in the game and he wants to be paid like it. Just be happy that Rex Ryan is a player's coach and not a dickhead like Tom Coughlin because I guarantee, it'll make the negotiations a lot less contentious.

Mangini was a dick, and Revis held out as a rookie. Revis will cave. he has 3 years left on his contract and if he doesnt report it will add another year onto that. If the Jets are smart they will just make him sit out and not trade him. he wont sit out for 4 years..lol

And if you're an employer and you go around telling some of your best employees that theyre the greatest so and so's in the history of so and so. you can definitely expect that employee to stick his hand out and say pay me like one.

Rex apologizes for cursing during 'Hard Knocks'
Last Updated: 4:52 PM, August 12, 2010

Posted: 4:11 PM, August 12, 2010

CORTLAND -- Rex Ryan's mother has already scolded him. A little soap might be next for the Jets' foul-mouthed coach.

After a Rex-pletive-filled appearance in the premiere episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks" on Wednesday night, Ryan got a call from Mom. And, then, like a good son, he said he was sorry.

"Sometimes you get rolling and that's what happens," Ryan said Thursday. "I don't know why. I apologize if I offended more people than I usually offend."

Swearing is nothing new for NFL coaches - or coaches in other sports, for that matter. It's just rare for fans to hear it on national TV. "Hard Knocks" is an uncensored look at the Jets through training camp.

"You don't even realize you're saying it," said Ryan, whose father, Buddy, was known to toss around a choice word or two during his NFL coaching career.

"My Mom's the only one really disappointed that I care about."

It didn't bother any of the players, who said that's just who Ryan is.

"Skip the F-bombs and everything else," defensive lineman Sione Pouha said. "You can really feel that this guy is passionate about what he does and is passionate about his players."

The curses aside, some viewers may have been more offended by some explicit scenes in the HBO vampire series "True Blood," which aired just before "Hard Knocks."

"Can't blame that one on me," Ryan said, laughing.

The first episode of the five-part "Hard Knocks" series touched on several topics, including star cornerback Darrelle Revis' holdout, the team's newest stars, players trying to hook on and playful banter between the coaches and the players.

"I watched it in my dorm room," Pouha said. "Had a couple of brownies - that's probably a $5 fine - but watched it in the room and the encore as well. It was quite entertaining."

Veteran pass rusher Jason Taylor, one of the newest Jets, was one of a handful of players who didn't watch.

"We're living it," he said. "We go through training camp all day. The last thing you want to do is watch training camp on TV."

One of the more entertaining scenes included Ryan going up against general manager Mike Tannenbaum in a punt-pass-kick competition. Tannenbaum went head-over-heels while unsuccessfully trying to field a punt.

"There's some people who probably watched it over and over," a smiling Ryan said - likely referring to Revis' agents.

"I don't know if people get used to seeing coaches and the GM having fun," linebacker Bart Scott said. "You're not used to seeing fun. So, we like to have fun. I think (people) get a greater appreciation of how we go about our business."

Dude, the guy took a shit team and re-made it in one year. He took a rookie QB that had only started 16 games in college and made him the starter from day one.

The team had its ups and downs last year but hit a stride late in the year and rode it all the way to the AFC Championship game. If Brian Schottemheimer wouldn't have shit his pants in the second half, the Jets would have been in the Super Bowl.

Barring injuries, the Jets will be a VERY good team in 2010 and in years to come. They're drafting well and blending veterans with young players nicely.

The last thing I'd call Rex Ryan is a buffoon. Those words are reserved for guys like Gunther and Herm.

In one scene, Ryan says he spent hours negotiating with Revis agents: "Frustrating ... I almost quit."

You're silly ... Ryan' a good guy.

Hell of a coach, so far.

The last thing I'd call Rex Ryan is a buffoon. Those words are reserved for guys like Gunther and Herm.

a shit team? lol Dane. the Jets had the same record the year before under Mangini. Sanchez had a rocky middle of the season. but they played defense and ran the ball.

I just hate all the shit talking. maybe im old school. I never said he was a bad coach. he did a great job with the defense last year. His big ****ing mouth is embarrassing. he should talk less and eat more. its all fun now, but when he said ''the season's over'' when they were 7-7 last year he wasnt smiling or kidding around at all.

He's the best cornerback in the game and he wants to be paid like it. Just be happy that Rex Ryan is a player's coach and not a dickhead like Tom Coughlin because I guarantee, it'll make the negotiations a lot less contentious.

Hey, hey, hey, now ...That "dickhead" helped the Giants win their third Super Bowl. http://www.icecaves.net/community/smilies/sparkle.gif

Sorry Dude, this is just plain silly.

Rex Ryan has been an excellent position coach and defensive coordinator and I have no reason to believe he won't be an excellent head coach.

As long as his defense is in the Top Five and his offense ascending, he can talk "shit" all he wants.

I totally agree. QFT

I only caught the tail end of this week... but it was great when the Jets coaches were asking who #3 was for the Giants when he stepped on the field.

I like the guy, but he reminds me alot of his Dad from the late 80's and early 90's with the Eagles. Hopefully his offense will be better than his Dads teams. Alot depends on Sanchez's development.

Introducing the Pizza Hut Pretzel M&M stuffed crust pizza. We had cases of them yesterday and they're all gone now, because Rex Ryan loves 'em and the players do too. That's the Pizza Hut Pretzel M&M stuffed crust pizza. Buy yours today.

I enjoyed Bart Scott's line about Joe McKnight and USC, "He's just mad he has to take a paycut!"

I really dont see the big deal here with what he said.

He's setting an expectation for his team. "I want to lead the league in wins."

What is he supposed to do in a meeting like that? Tell the players he wants to try to squeak into the playoffs again like they did last season?

As for the "We can beat any team we play" remark, Im pretty sure any team that actually considers themselves able to win a championship damn well better have that mentality approaching the season.

The alleged "shit talk" is only shit talk because its getting aired on HBO. From what I understand the organization is supposed to go about things as if the cameras arent even there.

Anyone calling Ryan a buffoon for setting an expectation that he wants to win every game they play, and instilling a mindset in the players that they can defeat any team that they play needs to wake up and smell what they are shovelling.
