Larry Johnson and Willie Parker could both get cut
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 24, 2010 12:04 PM ET
Use up all your jokes about the Redskins backfield while you can, because the 2005 fantasy football All Stars may get broken up before the season even starts.

We've said all offseason that Willie Parker had an uphill battle to make the roster. Now Jason Reid of the Washington Post writes that it "wouldn't be shocking" if Larry Johnson and Parker were both cut. Parker also could possibly pass Johnson with a strong preseason effort this weekend.

Johnson's biggest issue, other than the fact Herm Edwards broke him years ago, remains in pass protection. L.J. "performed woefully" in blitz pickup in his extended work against the Ravens Saturday. (He also rushed eight times for four yards and dropped a pass.)

Reid credits a source that the Redskins have been concerned about their backfield depth even before camp. The team could choose to keep Ryan Torain and Keiland Williams as backups, and possibly look to the waiver wire to fill the backup job behind Clinton Portis.

Parker and Johnson received relatively small signing bonuses totaling $300,000, so cutting them wouldn't be that painful financially.
Give him a look?

Rausch 08-24-2010 10:54 AM

If we could get Parker for peanuts (as a 3rd/4th HB) I'd love it. He could fill a lot of the roles McCluster/Charles do...

Terrell Suggs blew up rookie left tackle Trent Williams on one of Johnson's rushes and dropped him for a loss.

Fullback Mike Sellers whiffed on another running play and Johnson never had a chance

I wouldn't hire Larry Johnson to push a broom on one of my jobsites.

the Talking Can 08-24-2010 11:00 AM

i'd hire LJ to spit on women....if I were a useless d-bag loser like him....

KCbroncoHATER 08-24-2010 11:01 AM

He's a millionaire so I doubt that he would want a job with you to begin with.

YOU would be working for him if anthing ...

make him put up a fathead of Charles
fire him before the day was over

since REx is the white Herm

Sure-Oz 08-24-2010 11:03 AM

Parker would be worth a look as a 3rd RB

buddha 08-24-2010 11:04 AM

Larry Johnson has showed how pathetic he truly is at this point at both Cincy and Wash. He almost got McNabb killed in the last game because he refuses to block. He's a cancer and a complete bad apple. The better question is why would anybody want this loser in any capacity at this point?

KCbroncoHATER 08-24-2010 11:06 AM

You'd think someone his size would have learned how to block at this point of his "career". What a ****ing waste of talent. He'll be painting pictures on the streets of New York within 5 years.

I honestly believe it's as possible that Jason Whitlock's username is JWhit as it's possible that KCBroncoHater is LJ himself.

I may be missing something, but it is only on LJ related posts that he pops up out of nowhere and dives right in.

Just saying.

MOhillbilly 08-24-2010 11:39 AM

Funny this article says its herms fault and in part it is. But youd be a fool not to look at the line he ran behind early on coupled w/ t-rich blocking for him. Hell the SI article last week spelled this out for the 1000th time.

donkhater 08-24-2010 01:01 PM

This would be funny except the guy KC got rid of to pay him is in his prime and arguably the best DE in the league. Meanwhile, KC set a league record for fewest sacks in a season and has two stud RB's anyway.

That's exactly the play I was referring to. He didn't even try...he loafed right past the incoming rusher and then looked back briefly to see how many pieces of McNabb were still identifiable to medical science.

Seriously, if the dude had ANY interest in playing football, he would have at least thought about making that block. He deserves to be cut and any GM who signs him in the future should be fired on the spot.

Mr. Flopnuts 08-24-2010 03:30 PM

The weird thing about Johnson is that I really do think he loves the game of football. Remember that he had the jerseys of running backs sewn into the fabric of his car seats? And when they did a profile of him once his hobby was painting, and he was painting a picture of Jim Brown in uniform? I wonder why that love didn't translate to a long career. Maybe he loves the game but simply can't handle the business and the politics of the sport, but you'd think he'd still be working hard when he's on the field.

I wonder about that too. He loves the game, and had tons of talent... but he was always hyper-sensitive to any perceived slight. He came to KC with a chip on his shoulder, and seemingly never even made an effort to shrug it off.

It'd be sad, if he wasn't such a prick about... well, everything.
